Barack Obama and the Exhausted Presidency
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 7:23 PM    3
the brains behind the Chicago machine " put these doubts to rest in the op-ed that he published on Christmas Eve in The Washington Post, warning that, if the Democrats did not plot “a more centrist course,” they would “risk electoral disaster not just in the upcoming midterms but in many elections to come.” Barack Obama has thus far led a charmed life " prep school in Hawaii, Occidental College, Columbia University, Harvard Law School, the Illinois State Senate, the U. S. Senate, the Presidency. He did lose a race for a Congressional seat. But, otherwise, to all appearances, he has never even stumbled. Events consistently broke in his favor. He has never really been tested " until now. And, of course, now he finds himself in over his head. American presidents put aside personal pique and pay close attention to protocol. They do not bow to queens, kings, and emperors; they do not warmly embrace dictators and thugs; and they do not direct gratuitous insults at

The Health Bill Is Scary
merrie
by merrie  12-21-2009    2
My 25 years as a practicing physician have shown me what happens when government attempts to practice medicine: Doctors respond to government coercion instead of patient cues, and patients die prematurely. Even if the public option is eliminated from the bill, these onerous rationing provisions will remain intact. For instance, the Reid bill (in sections 3403 and 2021) explicitly empowers Medicare to deny treatment based on cost. An Independent Medicare Advisory Board created by the bill"composed of permanent, unelected and, therefore, unaccountable members"will greatly expand the rationing practices that already occur in the program. Medicare, for example, has limited cancer patients' access to Epogen, a costly but vital drug that stimulates red blood cell production. It has limited the use of virtual, and safer, colonoscopies due to cost concerns. And Medicare refuses medical claims at twice the rate of the largest private insurers.

The Left Pounds ObamaCare, some more

Even that single payer maven, Representative Weiner said on WNYC: (http://bit.ly/68EVxB) “I’m not taking the Senate Bill. We’re going to go into a conference hopefully, we’re going to get back to close to where the house is. We’re not taking the Senate Bill. That Senate Bill should not become law.” And " “Peggy Noonan, the columnist and former Reagan speechwriter, told Axelrod on “Morning Joe”: “On the issue of health care, you are losing the left, you are losing the right, you are losing the center. That looks to me like a political disaster.” Pretty much, ’nuff said.

Obama's False Economic Consensus
infidel70
by infidel70  12-14-2009    1
Greg Mankiw, to cite one of scores of possible examples, is an "economist who's looked at it," and he had an op-ed in The New York Times just yesterday that cited several other economists who have looked at stimulus packages throughout the ages. His conclusion? Successful stimulus relies almost entirely on cuts in business and income taxes. Failed stimulus relies mostly on increases in government spending. A growing body of evidence suggests that traditional Keynesian nostrums might not be the best medicine. Obama is a political master at drawing boundaries around the "respectable" debate and marginalizing a swath of his critics as being beyond the pale.

Climategate Gaining Traction in Liberal Media - Even in New Jersey
merrie
by merrie  12-11-2009    1
I recently heard a New York radio broadcaster, whose name I won't reveal because I appear on his show now and then, mislabeling CO₂ as "soot." The column goes on to quote a Princeton physics professor, William Happer: In Happer's opinion, the carbon-control movement is really a population-control movement. He traces it back through the "Population Bomb" movement of the late 1960s all the way to the 18th-century writings of Thomas Malthus. Other scientists have said the same, but Happer says it the loudest. He terms the IPCC crowd a "religious cult" and says, "Disagreeing with them is like going to Saudi Arabia and criticizing Muhammad." As for the media, we've been guilty of putting our faith in the carbon cult as well, he said. By running the Politico column and the op-ed column today, the paper has finally turned the heat up on the climate elites, ending the three week-long deep freeze.

Wednesday's edition of the Washington Post features an op-ed by Sarah Palin, who reprises her call -- first made in a Facebook post last week -- for President Obama to "boycott" the major climate talks in Copenhagen due to the "Climate-gate" controversy (actually a non-controversy).

Some Tough Questions About Islam and Jihadists
merrie
by merrie  12-1-2009    1
Our enemy uses Islam as a mask and he needs us to help him drive nonpoliticized Muslims into his camp. It is the essential element of his strategy. He cannot succeed without accomplishing this feat—and he cannot accomplish this goal without our help. Consider the Machiavellian tactics of tyrants throughout human history. Repeatedly they conjure a “common (external) enemy” and an existential vision, binding the masses to them. Read, for example, Eric Hoffer’s “The True Believer, Thoughts on the Nature of Mass Movements.” Our enemy is trying to create and sustain a mass movement. If he fails in this regard, he fails completely. Patrick A. Toffler Col. (Ret.) U.S. Army Hewitt, N.J. Mr. Gerecht astutely points out that President Barack Obama has missed a critical opportunity to militate against holy warriors in our midst. But he fails to connect the dots on a larger trend: American reluctance to admit that we are at war.

How To Control Life; Control Carbon
merrie
by merrie  11-28-2009
Former EU Environment Minister Margot Wallstrom said, "Kyoto is about the economy, about leveling the playing field for big businesses worldwide." Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper once dismissed U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol as a "socialist scheme." (http://bit.ly/81iMvl) In addition, calls for a global carbon tax have been urged at recent U.N. global warming conferences . In December 2007, the U.N. climate conference in Bali urged the adoption of a global carbon tax that would represent "a global burden sharing system, fair, with solidarity, and legally binding to all nations." (http://bit.ly/5fNMQ5) "A climate change response must have at its heart a redistribution of wealth and resources," said Emma Brindal, a climate justice campaigner coordinator for Friends of the Earth. The Obama administration revealed even more controls in September 2009 when it was announced that the State Department wanted to form a global "Ecological Board of Directors." (http://bit.ly/8hbI4D)

Saudi Columnist: Obama Will Be President of the 'United Collapse of America'
merrie

so much so that it looks to the observer like a car with no brakes going . "If the U.S. sneezes, the entire world catches a cold. Its political collapse in its war on terror, together with its economic collapse, have made the entire world sink into a political and economic quagmire. No one knows how our star will emerge from the maelstrom. "The failures of the U.S. in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Somalia will have an impact on the countries that are fighting terrorism and extremism. These countries must prepare for the stage that follows these collapses and retreats - because there is no critical American/Western victory on the horizon in the fight against . "Obama fought tooth and nail to be the first black president of the U.S., and he was successful at it. But in the future he may also gain the title of 'President of the United Collapse of America.'" http://bit.ly/74hila

Well...there ya' go. While I would not agree that Abbas is an ally of the US I can understand why he would consider his efforts for the Palestinian cause null & void. FTA: "Its political collapse in its war on terror, together with its economic collapse, have made the entire world sink into a political and economic quagmire." There. That's how the rest of the world perceives us and perception is reality. Hello!? Can we 'change' this and is there any 'hope'? This Administration has brought about our complete collapse in a matter of months!!! Those who deny it are willfully blind or partners.

KSM Collects His First Virgin
merrie
by merrie  11-14-2009    2
Imagine the security that will be needed for these terrorist trials in one of the most famous cities in the world. Then there’s also the risks to national security these trials would bring. Last month in a Wall Street Journal op-ed, former Attorney General Michael Mukasey noted that Osama bin Laden learned quite a bit from the trial of Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman in 1995. In a statement, Sen. Jon Kyl said, “Past trials of terrorists have proven that our civilian courts are not the appropriate venue to handle international terrorism trials.....Military tribunals "- which have been used by Presidents dating back to George Washington -" are the most appropriate, and secure, forum to try those who commit acts of war against the United States.” My final comment: Obama is a coward. A man would have held a press conference and announced it and defended his stand. He is in Asia instead. The media vetted Joe the Plumber better than the man who is now president.
