POPS Pay Czar Targets Salary Cuts Mr. Feinberg is expected to issue by mid-October his determination on compensation packages for 175 of the most-highly compensated executives and employees at the seven firms he oversees. The move will further reshape pay at those firms and could complicate efforts by some of those seven companies to attract top executives and employees. The issue could be particularly acute for Bank of America, which is searching for a successor to Kenneth Lewis, who announced plans to resign as chief executive of the company last week. A Bank of America spokesman said the bank declined to comment on compensation issues regarding the chief executive. "We have been in close communication with Feinberg and our compensation going forward is very much in line with his guidance," the spokesman said. POPSMuch Of Traditional Journalism Went Backwards
and were so badly in the tank for one candidate in 2008 that 90 percent of the public can see it. As ABC’s Michael Malone wrote in October of 2008: I also happen to believe that most reporters, whatever their political bias, are human torpedoes . . .and, had they been unleashed, would have raced in and roughed up the Obama campaign as much as they did McCain’s. That’s what reporters do, I was proud to have been one, and I’m still drawn to a good story, any good story, like a shark to blood in the water. So why weren’t those legions of hungry reporters set loose on the Obama campaign? Who are the real villains in this story of mainstream media betrayal? The editors. The men and women you don’t see; the people who not only decide what goes in the paper, but what doesn’t; the managers who give the reporters their assignments and lay-out the editorial pages. They are the real culprits. Picture yourself in your 50s in a job where you’ve spent 30 years

POPS The Sell-Phone Revolution Already, mobile services use area codes, Zip Codes, and even Global Positioning System (GPS) data to return results for nearby businesses in response to a search for, say, coffee shops. The next step is to serve an ad for a steaming cup of java on a mobile Web page just as the cell-phone Web surfer is passing a Starbucks (SBUX ). Within five years, online ad networks such as TACODA and Specific Media Inc. plan to apply behavioral techniques"using surfing data"to target ads to broadband-enabled digital television. It's not hard to imagine the day when multiple TVs tuned to the same channel in the same household will serve up different ads. "There is no question behavioral targeting will be a major component of television," says Dave Morgan, TACODA's founder and chairman. POPSInternet Providers Push Back Against 'Net Neutrality' Proposal expanding the rules to cover wireless networks. The company would be "very disappointed if has already drawn a conclusion to regulate wireless services despite the absence of any compelling evidence of problems or abuse that would warrant government intervention," said Jim Cicconi, AT&T's senior executive vice president of external and legislative affairs. FCC officials said they would work with phone companies to develop rules that wouldn't create problems for wireless networks. "I am convinced that there are few goals more essential in the communications landscape than preserving and maintaining an open and robust Internet," Mr. Genachowski said in his speech Monday at the Brookings Institution, a Washington think tank. Strengthening FCC rules on Web traffic is a top priority of consumer groups and Internet advocates who supported President Barack Obama in his run for the White House.

POPSRep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn. Resolution Seeks Details on 'Czars' "Over the past several weeks, we've seen with increasing frequency and volume issues raised around the use of 'czars' by this administration," Dunn wrote. "Although some members have asked serious questions around the makeup of the White House staff, the bulk of the noise you hear began first with partisan commentators suggesting that this is somehow a new and sinister development that threatens our democracy. This is, of course, ridiculous." In a statement, Blackburn said her concern is "when a president shifts duties away from officials who are subject to Congressional oversight to those on his personal staff who are not." She endorsed the use of the kind of questionnaire that nominees seeking confirmation by the Senate Armed Services Committee are are required to complete.
