POPSBlack In The Age Of Obama Over the decades, conservatives and Republicans have forged and fueled fears of blacks coming after your teenage daughters, your wife, your stereo, your tax money, your job, your kid's college admissions, and the music your kids listen to. It's out in the forefront again with the offensive images on Google. Any so called justification for that hatred such as one clipper posed here on CM is nothing but a smoke screen for the malevolence that lives in his heart.

POPSBest Buy Says "Happy Eid" - Christian Conservatives Miffed 'Tis the season for bitching about nothing ... In another publication, Hawks said that, in addition to Eid wishes, “you will see greetings of Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa and Feliz Navidad in various Best Buy communications during the holiday season.” That might rile conservatives, too. Already, the American Family Association has lashed out at the Gap for giving equal billing to Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Solstice in a new TV commercial — although that group’s main concern is the inclusion of Solstice. Imad Hamad, the regional Midwest director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee, sees the greeting as a “welcome gesture from Best Buy,” adding that many of the complaints against it illustrate the kind of “anti-Islamic virus we’ve been hearing and dealing with.”

POPSCash for Clubbers The golf-cart boom has followed an IRS ruling that golf carts qualify for the electric-car credit as long as they are also road worthy. These qualifying golf carts are essentially the same as normal golf carts save for adding some safety features, such as side and rearview mirrors and three-point seat belts. They typically can go 15 to 25 miles per hour. In South Carolina, sales of these carts have been soaring as dealerships alert customers to Uncle Sam's giveaway. "The Golf Cart Man" in the Villages of Lady Lake, Florida is running a banner online ad that declares: "GET A FREE GOLF CART. Or make $2,000 doing absolutely nothing!"

POPSSponsored search results lead to malware If you're not sure, verify the URL. Microsoft and Google have large payrolls, but the search giants don't employ literal armies to review ad submissions. If you're at all suspicious of an ad's legitimacy, check the URL via a service such as hpHosts, which tracks domain names that researchers have reported as malicious. Help vendors by reporting malicious advertisers. To report bogus ads on Google, e-mail security at google.com. This is likely to be more effective than reporting the site via the search giant's online form. If you discover malware purveyors advertising in Bing's results, e-mail secure at microsoft.com. Yahoo, however, offers only a Security Phishing Report Form.

POPS The Sell-Phone Revolution Already, mobile services use area codes, Zip Codes, and even Global Positioning System (GPS) data to return results for nearby businesses in response to a search for, say, coffee shops. The next step is to serve an ad for a steaming cup of java on a mobile Web page just as the cell-phone Web surfer is passing a Starbucks (SBUX ). Within five years, online ad networks such as TACODA and Specific Media Inc. plan to apply behavioral techniques"using surfing data"to target ads to broadband-enabled digital television. It's not hard to imagine the day when multiple TVs tuned to the same channel in the same household will serve up different ads. "There is no question behavioral targeting will be a major component of television," says Dave Morgan, TACODA's founder and chairman. POPSPolite Obituaries? Not So Much for Jesse Helms Last Year The Washington Post stressed Helms “rode his divisiveness to victory.” The New York Times obituary threw punches, describing him as the senator “whose courtly manner and mossy drawl barely masked a hard-edged conservatism that opposed civil rights, gay rights, foreign aid and modern art.” The networks were no better. NBC’s Lester Holt blatantly copied the Times: “He staked out firm positions against everything from communism and foreign aid to civil rights and modern art.” let's recall how Helms was eulogized on the Ed Schultz radio show last year. Fill-in host Norman Goldman said this: "That race-baiting, racist, horrible Jesse Helms ad got him ahead of Harvey Gantt and got him reelected in 1990. Harvey Gantt would have made a much better senator and Jesse Helms shamelessly played the race card. He was a miserable rat. The world's a better place without him. I hope he's down there in hell roasting with Jerry Falwell."

POPS Bloggers Get Budget Briefing This booklet contains a series of 40 charts on federal spending, taxes, debt and deficits, and entitlements. The charts outline the increases in federal spending that are projected to occur during the Obama administration. Nicola Moore of the Heritage Foundation described the new material as “blogger-friendly.” Bloggers will be able to “save it and embed that image directly on blog,” Moore said. Moore added that this year, there is a new interactive feature with a flash graphic version of one of the charts. Moore also welcomes input from those who have new ideas for charts and other suggestions. The contents of the book can be found online at www.heritage.org/budgetchartbook. Brittany Fortier is an intern at the American Journalism Center, a training program run by Accuracy in Media and Accuracy in Academia.

POPSOpt-out on Googles Behavioral Targeting Add Program, Protect your Privacy. In Short: Google bought DoubleClick a while ago, an internet-based advertising firm. Today Google launched that program, and it tracks you through cookies. Privacy aware surfers delete their cookies once in a while, and/or are careful which cookies are stored on their computer. But that won't stop Google from tracking your surfing habits. So if you really want to stop Google from doing that to you, install this 'Advertising Cookie Opt-Out Plug-in'.

POPSGay Snipers Are Out To Ruin Your Family OMG!!! The queers are out to not only ruin the "biblical" definition of marriage, but to hit your pocketbook with costly litigation! Imagine the nerve. Who are these people to demand equal rights? Well, they are your neighbor, the nurse that took care of your dying parent in the hospital, and your friend that sits beside you in church. This is fear mongering plain and simple. It's normal to not understand those desires that are not your own, but intelligent people recognize the differences in us all and celebrate them. The truth of the matter is that our Governor Joe Manchin would never sign legislation giving the equal rights routinely given to heterosexuals who are allowed to marry each other. He knows if he wants to serve another term he would never even think such a thought. It's political suicide in this state.
