POPSPride and Progress: How Far America Has Come In The Last 40 Years food for thought from Jonah Lehrer a bit more: "Over time, these conscious limits on language helped re-engineer our unconscious beliefs, allowing people to slowly purge themselves of obsolete stereotypes. (We tend to think of the unconscious as the domineering elephant of the mind, but sometimes the feeble rider manages to steer the beast in the right direction.) Of course, the unconscious remains a murky and biased place, but I think white Americans have shown that it can be amended, that simply altering the ways in which we refer to people can, over time, change what we secretly think of people."

POPSNobody Wants To Be On Obama's Ticket McGovern had the same problem- and felt forced to pick Thomas Eagleton, who had to be replaced by Sargen Shriver, A Kennedy apparatchik. * Edwards says he's not interested. * Biden says he's not interested, but might say yes if asked. . * Ditto Kerry. * Governor Tom Strickland of Ohio says he would “absolutely not” join the Obama ticket. * Webb says he's not interested in VP. * Gov Bredesen says he's not interested. * Sen Bayh says he's not interested - but might say yes. At this rate Obama might have to pick Caroline!

POPSWhy some conservatives are backing Obama How you vote should be governed by your interpretation of what the candidates have to offer. You may be able to think of the good of the country or you may be pressed by the need for food, shelter and clothing (not to mention medical insurance).

POPSDefinition Of Patriotism: "Happiness When The US Defeats The Enemy" They have lost their supposedly divine endorsement; why would Allah have called them to action, just to see them destroyed by the infidels? The sheer bloodthirstiness of their actions in Iraq have exposed them as drug-driven demons, not righteous jihadists. While Barack Obama and the Democratic party run around shouting to every microphone they can find that “Al-Qaeda is stronger today than it was on 9/11″ have challenged the core assumptions of Al-Qaeda’s motivating philosophy, that Allah is on their side and they cannot fail, and in doing so have crushed the spirit of Al-Qaeda’s followers and assured that recruiting into “Allah’s army” is far more difficult that it would have been if otherwise. Al Qaeda itself is telling a different story. Al-Qaeda leaders admit: 'We are in crisis. There is panic and fear' http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/iraq/article3346386.ece

POPSObama's 50 state strategy Sen. McCain's has spent the past week trying to convince us that Sen. Obama is a typical politician. Let's review. Sen. McCain spent the past week in Colombia, Mexico, and his ranch in Arizona. Sen. Obama spent the past week flying all over the USA attempting to win voters in all 50 states, including those usually ceded by Democrats to the Republicans. Yeah, sounds typical to me.

POPSObama: "I need to earn troops' trust" Before they can trust, they have to respect. Clinton never got the respect of the troops other than the lickspittle Gen. Wesley Clark. Similarly, this empty suit, al Qaeda sleeper cell Hussein Obama, will never gain that respect. He represents the Left who continually stabbed them in the back during the long war.

POPSObama Aide Suggests 'Winnie The Pooh' Foreign Policy Actually, this is the best thing I've heard from the Obama Camp. I suppose we can learn something from Winnie the Pooh. I doubt, however, the Islamists that want to kill all infidels would be very impressed with this sensitive approach.

POPSQuotes about Obama "Barack Obama is our collective representation of our purest hopes, our highest visions and our deepest knowings . . . He's our product out of the all-knowing quantum field of intelligence." -- Eve Konstantine "This is bigger than Kennedy. . . . This is the New Testament." | "I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean, I don't have that too often. No, seriously. It's a dramatic event." -- Chris Matthews " creative imagination which coupled with brilliance equals wisdom . . . the man for this time." -- Toni Morrison "Obama's finest speeches do not excite. They do not inform. They don't even really inspire. They elevate. . . . He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh . . . Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our highest selves." -- Ezra Klein

POPSBubba The Baby All those years the public believed the Media and it's protection of Bill Clinton. The man apparently had charisma but no core strength. His persona was *created. I never would have voted for Hillary but she is a cut above her husband and even Obama. Hint, hint....how a person is portrayed by the Media & that person's handlers may not be who that person really is....beware of *created* candidates who conform outwardly but are vile and petty on the inside.

POPSObama's Okie Doke Obama voted against a ban on partial birth abortions. Americans support a ban by a margin of 66% to 28%. Obama supports affirmative action in public employment, contracting and university admissions. Americans oppose giving an advantage in these areas on the basis of race by a margin of 82% to 14%. Obama voted against a ban on partial birth abortions. Americans support a ban by a margin of 66% to 28%. Obama opposed the Induced Birth Infant Liability Act while in the Illinois state legislature, to prevent abortion providers from withholding medical care and sustenance from infants born after surviving an abortion attempt. Despite his equivocal statements regarding the recent Supreme Court decision striking down the D.C. gun ban, Obama has never met a gun ban he didn't like. While in the Illinois state legislature, Obama voted against parental notification requirements for abortions for minors. Americans support parental notification laws by a margin of 79% to 17%.

POPSObama vs. Obama finds much comfort in these increasingly peculiar neck-snapping reversals. Despite the evident dishonesty of these moves, though, those of us with whom Obama is suddenly discovering so many points of agreement should certainly make the most of his awkward dance. Will other prominent Democrats agree with their candidate's newly discovered views? If not, why not?

POPSTHE Bigot is Dead Jesse Helms was a disgraceful representation of an elected official in our country. He despised blacks, gays, lesbians, hispanics and everyone who did not look like him or believed as he believed. While I never take pleasure in the death of another human being, it is my sincere hope that with his death, another layer of bigotry in the U.S. is buried with him. I have to think that maybe seeing Obama on the brink of the presidency may have been just too much for his aging heart to take.

POPSObama Should Follow Feingold
That’s bad — not just because Obama is putting politics ahead of principle, but because he’s calculating the politics wrong. As Feingold proved when he was overwhelmingly re-elected in a swing state in 2004, after casting the sole vote against the Patriot Act, standing strong for the Bill of Rights attracts rather than sacrifices votes. Even worse is the deceptive claim that the “compromise” on FISA (Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act) reached by the Bush administration and congressional leaders allows for meaningful scrutiny. As Feingold says, “The proposed FISA deal is not a compromise; it is a capitulation. The House and Senate should not be taking up this bill, which effectively guarantees immunity for telecom companies alleged to have participated in the president’s illegal program, and which fails to protect the privacy of law-abiding Americans at home. Allowing courts to review the question of immunity is meaningless when the same legislation essentially requires the co
