POPSThe Savagery of a Surge That Failed He didn't scream. Instead, the sight induced a sort of catatonia; he picked up the head, cradled it in his arms, and started walking aimlessly. He carried on like this for days, until tribal elders pried the head from his hands and convinced him to deal with his loss more constructively. He decided he would get revenge by becoming a suicide bomber and inflicting a loss on some American family as painful as the one he had just suffered. The Taliban are as uninterested in social services and human rights as the Karzai government or the international forces, but they know how to turn a world of poverty, insecurity, and death from laser-guided missiles to their advantage. Washington spends about $100 million a day on this war - close to $36 billion a year - but only five cents of every dollar goes towards aid. From this paltry sum, "a staggering 40% has returned to donor countries in corporate profits and salaries".

POPSPentagon's Secret Budget Numbers Do you hear that strange sucking sound? That's the US taxpayer dollars being sucked into the voracious black hole of the Military Industrial Complex. This secret budget is ON TOP of the announced 600+ billion dollars already allocated. That is a hell of a lot of money! Bombs or food? Not my choice to make, but are more bombs really what America needs? Really?

POPS$10.2 Trillion: National Debt Clock Goes Bust George Bush's legacy and the cost of war. How appropriate for the Debt Clock to run out of numbers. It's so symbolic, like the clock itself staggered at the number. The figure is absolutely outrageous and completely unjustifiable. And republicans used to be the party of limited instead of Big Government. The consequences are now all coming back. But Democrats should not gloat too much, they had plenty of support for the same spending packages and gave Bush whatever he wanted (fools). The ignorant flag-waving American public now realizes they were pushed into war under false pretenses and lies.

POPSThe Banker or the Fetus, Who Would You Save? EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT POINT!!! This is not a long read and you'll see other benefits beyond his points as well. Kind of a paradigm like shift in perspective. *Make sure all your so called republican christian friends get a hold of this article.

POPSVotes and Nuts - the ACORN kind Let every vote count, is the Democratic Party's mantra these days. That slogan might better be: Let every vote count as often as we need to win. Such, at any rate, are the tactics of ACORN, Barack Obama's favorite "community organizers," and its Project Vote - of which, the Democratic presidential candidate has boasted, "I started working as the director . . . here in Chicago."

POPS Keep Your Sunny Side Up by Mark Steyn
The Iraq surge (McCain's unique selling point) is a victim of its own success and has dwindled away to an irrelevant footnote, and the front pages are full of a supposed economic catastrophe which the crude rules of politics suggest any fool should be able to hang on the incumbent. Yet Obama still can't open up a solid lead. After all, why would record numbers of viewers watch the vice-presidential debate if the election's already over? Meanwhile, the supposedly damaged Republican brand is proving suprisingly resilient. I see one of the two New Hampshire seats that flipped blue in '06 may return to the red fold next month. Where's the blowout? A lot of the dynamite is well past its sell-by date: Two references last night to Ronald Reagan negotiating with Tip O'Neill. No one remembers who Tip O'Neill is. McCain might as well have been evoking misty watercolor mem'ries of Talleyrand . . . Obama, by contrast, is all future - which is understandable, given his past.

POPSRacism in the Race if you put up a mirror will you get a true reflection? Sometimes the realization of ones "brown eyed" thinking will come as a shock.

POPSAll Polls Indicate: Obama Wins Second Debate
Poll numbers and respectable expert opinion is overwhelming - but Obama's growing lead in the Electoral Collage growing by leaps and bounds. He's now estimated to have 264 electoral votes while McCain is estimated to only have less than 180. Yet a lot of talking heads yawn, say it was boring, or pretend that the baseball play-offs are more important (an effort at trivializing Obama's victories) -- and they continue to report smear and slander advertising campaigns against Obama as if it was news. As if a womanizer, crap shooter, ego manic ex-fly boy who confessed to war crimes in Vietnam and pleaded for special treatment when a POW is a better choice? There were real heroes in Vietnam but he wasn't one of them. And despite Vietnam being another undeclared war built on lies a soldier is suppose to be loyal and not give aid to the enemy. At least the smear, above, is based on truth; and we can't lose this election because Republican throw more *hit. BTW, debate a bit b

POPSFor Those Undecided Voters... If you are undecided about who to vote for in the US presidential race (HUH?) Maybe, you should check with Obama's standing in the world.... Which translates something like this... In Percentages GEORGE W BUSH = 0% BARACK OBAMA = 99% JOHN McGRUMPYPANTS = 1% (Just Kidding) :-D Excerpt from article: No matter where you live, no matter which nation you hail from or to which political ideology you tend to adhere, the Bush/McCain approach to leadership -- belligerent, militaristic, religiously closed-minded, culturally stagnant, environmentally reckless, fiscally irresponsible -- has resulted in one of the most epic collapses of a world power in modern history, which in turn has made the rest of the world a more volatile, hostile place for all. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2008/10/08/notes100808.DTL&nl=fix

POPSIs The Film 'An American Carol' Being Sabotaged At The Box Office? Obviously, this type of "error" sometimes requires collusion between employees--a way of marking the ticket so that you are sent to the correct theater, even though you've been sold the wrong ticket. Before anyone jumps to conclusions and chalks this up to politics, the fact is this is a fairly rare but not unheard of occurrence. There have been payola scandals in the past and it usually has more to do with either juicing the numbers for a big budget release or, more prosaically, lazy or incompetent ticket sellers at the theaters. Would I put it past Hollywood to collude with theater owners to depress sales of AAC? No, but in this case I think it best to use Occam's Razor - everything being equal, the simplest and least complicated answer is probably the right one. “Please email us a picture of your ticket stub to: fraud@americancarol.com
