POPSQUIZ: What American Accent Do You Have? If you think you don't have an accent, think again. This short quiz is a way to find out which dialect of American English you speak. Different regional accents become more prevalent in countries at different times throughout the years for various socio-economic and geographical reasons. These accents come to be perceived as "neutral" or "accent-less" by the majority during these times. For a while, the American dialect sometimes called "Standard Midwestern" has dominated but, like accents themselves, this "standard" constantly evolves. Recently, the spoken aspects of American English have trended westward along with the population center of America. Many features distinct to Northeastern accents (think NYC, Boston) are being replaced in popularity with those from Western accents (think LA) across America. This shift tends to be more prominent the younger the speaker is.

POPSDog rescues owner that forgot keys The dog Anna woke her owner up when there was a fire. They both got out, but the owner, a janitor, forgot her keys. She went back inside, and Anna followed her back, and led her out , leading her through the smoke. I've seen a few dogs rescuing owners stories over the past month, and there seems to have been one thing in common. The dogs had generally been stray, or adopted from the pound after being abused by previous owners. The dogs were proving they can be grateful, Perhaps seeing it as repaying in kind.

POPSAmerica Buying Big Slices of South America I like the idea of private conservation (better than no conservation at all), but I can also see a scenario in which the rich lay claim to the increasingly scarce resources of the future, such as water (and oil of course i.e Iraq.) I guess only the future will tell, if the rich intend to 'share'.

POPSBad kid! Don't push that button! I think I'd be laughing my butt off, as long as I wasn't the one who had to clean it up. Better keep a better eye on the kid next time. I mean, who doesn't want to push the emergency button? I wonder if it was big and red too...double the temptation.

POPSMan walks 10 hours across Arctic tundra while family waits in igloo "Their journey began Saturday night, when the three packed up their snowmobile with a couple of knives, five Arctic char and some seal fat. They set out from their home in Hall Beach, Nunavut, expected to arrive in Igloolik within two and a half hours - a distance of about 80 kilometres across fields of ice. Their trouble began when they had to made a detour overland because warmer temperatures had made the ice soft. Right around the time the engine on their snowmobile konked out, a blizzard blew in. "Luckily, I had my knives, including my snow knife. But it took me four hours to build an igloo in that blizzard," he recalled. Once Innuarak had their igloo built, the family started a fire with the seal fat and ate one of the five fish they'd brought with them." With the temperature outside dipping at one point to - 38 C with the windchill, they began to feel afraid."...
