The key to MSF’s ability to act independently in response to a crisis is its independent funding. Eighty-nine percent of MSF's overall funding (and 100 percent of MSF-USA's funding) comes from private sources, not governments. In 2006, MSF had more than three million individual donors and private funders worldwide. MSF is neutral. The organization does not take sides in armed conflicts, provides care on the basis of need alone, and pushes for increased independent access to victims of conflict as required under international humanitarian law. At times, MSF may speak out publicly in an effort to bring a forgotten crisis to public attention, to alert the public to abuses occurring beyond the headlines, or to challenge the diversion of humanitarian aid for political interests.

But now it seems to have come from on high like the NeoCons did with every new buzzword during the Bush years. In fact, its usage has come on so fast and so regularly that someone over at the Washington Times picked up on the newly-approved jargon: Health care reform supporters at the Center for American Progress, the American Prospect, MSNBC and other outlets have deployed the term against Republicans who cite the 10th Amendment as reason not to create new programs. Some of the leading Republican proponents of the allegedly “dangerous” and “conspiratorial” theory include Sens. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Jim DeMint of South Carolina, and Rep. Many of the respondents listed the intuition of "just knowing" - as their primary means of identifying gay babies. POPSWe've Gotten Away With It For Years So It's OK I wonder how the superintendent would respond to a government organization that included on their letterhead the phrase "Uniontown - Only Christians Allowed", or "Uniontown - Jew Free"! It's mighty difficult for the privileged to see their own bigotry. Their defense? We've gotten away with it for years so it must be ok. What a bunch of wankers.

POPSFreezing / Microwaving Plastic Containers Releases Cancer-Causing Dioxin Someone in my family recently died of cancer. So naturally, we all became a little more serious about collecting information on its causes. I remember something about how freezing water in plastic bottles releases dioxin and that it was purported to have come from John’s Hopkins. Well, come to find out the claim falsely used Johns Hopkins as the source. Freezing water in plastic bottles does not release dioxin. Neither does using plastic to heat food in a microwave. However, there is still a question about heating fatty foods in plastic containers. Also, I learned recently that using those ‘one-use’ type plastic containers in which butter, whipping cream, etc are sold should never be used in a microwave. To be safe you really should use only glass. Just thought you might want to know.

This from the July 15, 2009 Survival Center Newsletter: There are 3 eclipses in a row. The 1st just happened - a partial lunar eclipse in the sign of Sagittarius on July 7th. The 2nd is a total solar eclipse in the sign of Cancer on July 22nd. And the 3rd is another partial lunar eclipse in the sign of Capricorn on August 6th. The 2 lunar eclipses are expected to be minor both in terms of astrology and astronomy- they won’t be visibly obvious at all, so they’re not believed to have any big impact on those of us down here. Though the lunar eclipses won’t be all that impactful the solar eclipse will, and it will be visible to millions of people in Asia and the Pacific. Just in: On Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 04:22:32 AM (CDT) a great shallow magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred on a ridge between Australia and Antarctica: "..the earthquake having resulted from slip on the subduction thrust interface between the Pacific and Australian plates."

The registry was created by the Yoga Alliance, a nonprofit group started in 1999 to establish teaching standards in an effort to have the industry regulate itself. In a recent newsletter, the alliance warned its members that nationwide licensing might be inevitable, “forcing this ancient tradition to conform to Western business practices.” “We made it very, very easy for them to do what they’re doing right now,” said Leslie Kaminoff, founder of the Breathing Project, a nonprofit yoga center in New York City, who had opposed the formation of the Yoga Alliance. “The industry of yoga is a big, juicy target.” New state regulations would not directly affect the drop-in classes attended by many of the 16 million Americans estimated to practice yoga. But the classes they would affect are an important source of revenue for many schools, and, of course, train future instructors. “It’s the perpetuation of the species,” said S. J.
