Health Insurance Model & The Honor System
davboz
by davboz   11-11-2009
With the right personalities, I'm sure that there would be far more in common than not in this struggle to make the system of providing health care make sense and work for nearly everyone. I believe much of the opposition means well, deep down inside, and they would just as soon see all citizens provided with reasonable health care. For policymakers, as well as those who feel the need to understand, it is important to learn enough so as to balance a sense of empathy and caring with a knowledge that self-sufficiency and motivation are robbed and diminished every time we just submit to the government and let them say, "Come to papa." Of course, it's the intuitive part that lets one know that those are even factors important to investigate, I do believe. My insight of the day is nothing more than a given basic regarding the concept of insurance. There seems to be a widely held delusion that health care costs are of certain values but that suddenly the buying of insurance coverage someho

Happy Birthday Ronald Reagan (Thanks for Ruining America)
dl211
by dl211  2-8-2009    6
I wish every one of you far left nut-cases would ban me from your conservative bashing clips that would save me from trying to fight the urge to respond to insane posts. I am tired of your relentless attacks on values, principles and ideas that made this country great. You far-left revolutionaries are bent on the destruction of this county in your twisted desire to reshape it into your own warped socialistic utopia. So don't expect me to be thankful or to remain or polite while you fascists seek a new and improved version of America, a socialistic regime that would rival the old USSR and make Russia jealous. Your pretended righteousness on issues, condemnation of opposition or truth, makes me want to puke. I am tired of all your sanctimonious hyperbole and I refuse to be polite to those who seek our country’s destruction. It is time for conservatives to become just as vocal and just as nasty as the far left are. You and your socialist friends are America’s main enemy, more

Touch Screen
bookchick49
by bookchick49  11-7-2009    1
Back in 1998/99, myself and a co-worker were brainstorming on computing ideas. We came up with an idea for a computer screen that would act like a kiosk of sorts, for the elderly. Realizing that there was a need to keep in touch and up to date with technology, it 'felt right' to bring something like touch screen for the elderly or those that could not type, into age (pun intended). Our idea was to set up these kiosk style monitors in senior assisted/non-assisted homes; on campus clubhouses, etc so anyone could send email and play a few games. Easy stuff that would not be intimidating or difficult to learn. Idea blown away when presented to our employer as not 'marketable enough.' About 3 weeks ago, I walked into Sam's Club; the computer section. A round table was set up with HP Touchscreen monitors. Curios, I walked over to inspect and could not get close enough except to watch. Persons much older than myself standing around the table, playing games by touching the scre

Who Am I?
willhelm
by willhelm  10-31-2009    4
"I wrote my first book in my mid-thirties. It is an autobiography with insights into my childhood years and growth into political thought." "My second book was released shortly thereafter, and it provides a deeper understanding of my political ideas." "Meanwhile, I was working as a community organizer and politician. My books, accompanied by my speeches, caught the attention of a nation. I was hailed as an excellent orator, a powerful organizer, and an agent of change for my country." "I am calling for a new world order -- change that everyone in the world can believe in." "My country is experiencing one of the largest economic crises in its history. I will offer solutions. I will clamp down on big business and provide government options to take over the industry. Our current system rewards those that are greedy and exploits those that are economically weak. I will offer healthcare for every man, woman, and child in the nation." "I will remove the greedy from their posi

The Importance of Having Friends Who Disagree
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  10-3-2009    6
Many people make the mistake of surrounding themselves with people who think exactly like them and reinforce every idea or prejudice they have. This is a bad mistake and will often end up distorting the reality you see. One may end up with a "fan club" that just reinforces your prejudices. So do a quick test right now. Make a list of your closest friends/acquintances/advisors. Then make a separate list of those who think totally differently from you, but are worth listening to anyway. Look at the intersection of these lists. You may be surprised.

Galileo's Spyglass
celestialdancer
by celestialdancer  10-25-2009    2
Using ever-more powerful telescopes over the next year, Galileo observed that the Moon was not perfectly smooth, as claimed by Aristotle, but cratered and mountainous. He spotted hundreds of stars previously untouched by human eyes. More critically, he discovered the four inner satellites of Jupiter - still known as the "Galilean moons" in his honour - and learnt that Venus, Earth's closest planet, goes through a full range of phases. Put together, his observations validated the revolutionary theory of Nicolaus Copernicus that Earth orbits the Sun, and not the other way round. Galileo understood the implications of what he had seen, but the Catholic Church was not ready to accept such heresy. Only in 2000 did the Holy See apologise for putting Galileo on trial in 1633, forcing him to recant his ideas lest he face imprisonment or worse. The Vatican also pays tribute to him in an exhibition that opened this month. I never knew that it was only in 20

Are kids under 13 watching YouTube?
dgreplay

You bet they are, and by a wide margin over the leading childrens content providers. So should YouTube do more to protect kids? Perhaps. But as this article suggests, there are many positives as well. For me, its come down to diligently monitoring my kids web time and placing the computer in our kitchen; its provided both web safety teaching moments as well as some great family bonding.

Invisible hand in invisible matter. Dark matter might not exist.
dopesick
by dopesick  10-10-2009
Dr Famaey added, "If we account for our observations with a modified law of gravity, it makes perfect sense to replace the effective action of hypothetical dark matter with a force closely related to the distribution of visible matter." The implications of the new research could change some of the most widely held scientific theories about the history and expansion of the universe. Lead researcher Dr. Gianfranco Gentile at the University of Ghent concludes, "Understanding this puzzling conspiracy is probably the key to unlock the formation of galaxies and their structures." What about NASA's direct proof on dark matter's existance? Broken study? This is actually makes sense, but so far is a little hard to accept. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

We dying, suffering from all this stuff. Some sick minds some dozens years ago declared new era in our move in the road of progress and we relentlessly followed their mad ideas not even realizing how harmful they are. Only with genuine freedom of information in Internet the true appeared at its full extend and some of us horrified what was already done. We have to admit now that so called "chemical revolution" in fact was chimera, which directed us to our present dead end.

I wonder if all that crap about loving your fellow man will be nixed? Maybe they'll add a chapter on how the money changers were really the good guys and simply adhering to good capitalistic principles? According to the article they do feel that the bible has become emasculated! The also want to: "Utilize Powerful Conservative Terms: using powerful new conservative terms as they develop; defective translations use the word "comrade" three times as often as "volunteer"; similarly, updating words which have a change in meaning, such as "word", "peace", and "miracle"."
