POPSHow 20 Popular Websites Looked When They Launched From Google to youtube, from craigslist to flickr - how some of today's biggest sites looked back in the early days of their existence. Remember the days when the word Google was not interchangeable with internet? Or when every site seemed to have a Netscape icon on it? Or when Flash was still something you cleaned your floor with? Then you were clearly using the web in the mid to late 1990s when pages were rudimentary affairs containing lists of links and information. POPSBackup & Restore Utilities: Firefox, Thunderbird, Netscape, Mozilla, Flock It works like a charm - the whole process is driven by a Wizard so easy to use that even raw beginners will be able to set up automatic backups. It also offers encryption of the backup files and a complete push-button restore option. http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/ If you only need to backup Firefox an excellent, perhaps superior, alternative is the free FEBE Firefox extension. Initially designed for backing up extensions it now offers the options of backing up various sections of your profile such as bookmarks, cookies, auto-complete etc. Most importantly, it allows you to backup your entire profile just by checking a single box. Full or selective restore is available. Thanks to site visitor Anupam Shriwatri for the suggestion.FEBE is available from here: http://customsoftwareconsult.com/extensions/febe/febe.html

POPSYahoo! Launches Digg Clone This is such a dull move.. yet another Digg rip-off. Even though Netscape already tried stealing Kevin Rose's cheese and failed... Yahoo might actually pull this off. They have an exponentially larger user base, and that's really important to drive interest in this sort of social network. Of course, even if it works, it's nothing new, and it isn't going to be so amazing as to pull the company out of the doldrums.

POPSAOL Pulls Plug on Netscape The Netscape browser helped kick off the internet boom, until it was replaced by Microsoft's internet explorer. Now it is considered to be Firefox's poor cousin. While Internet Explorer tops the market. The other 'less popular' - popular with the number of users being a relative term, are below the radar of many hackers and viruses.

POPSAbout Time: Netscape Dies!! Well this comes as no surprise to me at all. But I do give them credit for kicking around as long as they did. And I do not know too many major known software to die out like this either. I mean, Imagine if all of a sudden PhotoShop died and something else took it's place? But then again, if the future plays like I want it to, Windows will be "Bowing Out" within my lifetime. I think Linux is going to give Windows a run for it's money, and doing it for free! Anyways, thats off topic...
