Do Today’s Young People Really Think They Are So Extraordinary?
wildcat
by wildcat  1-19-2008    2
“Today’s youth seem to be no more narcissistic and self-aggrandizing than previous generations,” write the authors. “We were unable to find evidence that either narcissism or the closely related construct of self-enhancement has increased over the past three decades.”

I'm So Happy To Be Childless
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  6-5-2007    4
A little talked about subject, voluntary childlessness. I, for one, do NOT live a life compatible with (two-legged) children and I actually like it that way!! I'm glad more women are beginning to speak out and break the "taboo" of not wanting children.

Narcissistic personality disorder
dmegivern
by dmegivern  8-2-2008    2
When you have narcissistic personality disorder, you may come across as conceited, boastful or pretentious. You often monopolize conversations. You may belittle or look down on people you perceive as inferior. You may have a sense of entitlement. And when you don't receive the special treatment to which you feel entitled, you may become very impatient or angry. You may also seek out others you think have the same special talents, power and qualities — people you see as equals. You may insist on having "the best" of everything — the best car, athletic club, medical care or social circles, for instance. But underneath all this grandiosity often lies a very fragile self-esteem. You have trouble handling anything that may be perceived as criticism. You may have a sense of secret shame and humiliation. And in order to make yourself feel better, you may react with rage or contempt and efforts to belittle the other person to make yourself appear better.

Caught with his pants down - Another liberal liar exposed
pkronfield
by pkronfield  8-8-2008    8
This slimeball blames "narcissicism". Seems this is a liberal trait. Boy oh boy, can't wait to read Coulter's next column on this! Now let's look at the other liar, B. Hussein Obama who claims to not be a muslim. Anybody look at the satellite view of his Hyde Park home, directly across the street from a mosque??

Malignant Narcissicm
willhelm
by willhelm  9-28-2008    5
"The public record shows this: First, within the minds of Barack and Michelle Obama resides the grandiose, even megalomaniacal notion that they have the power to make the world as-it-is into the world-as-it-should be. Second, the Obamas look to talk-show host, Oprah Winfrey, as their "global role model" to effect this change. Third, as the Obamas' model for change, Oprah relentlessly promotes the grandiose New Age religion of her guru, Eckhart Tolle. "

Narcissistic People Most Likely To Emerge As Leaders
balthazarus
by balthazarus  Yesterday 4:49 PM
It is important not to confuse narcissism with high self-esteem, she said. “A person with high self-esteem is confident and charming, but they also have a caring component and they want to develop intimacy with others,” Brunell explained. “Narcissists have an inflated view of their talents and abilities and are all about themselves. They don’t care as much about others.”

The Kennedy Mystique
zasel
by zasel  1-29-2008    2
I am not a big fan of David Brooks, as I find many of his views far too right-wing and conservative for my liking. When I started to read today's NY Times column I was ready for a blast at Kennedy and his endorsement of Obama. But it turned into one of the most positive and lauding commentaries I have read about any politician in a very long time. I hope you will read the entire column, as my clipping is very limited.

A rant against Web 2.0
hjharris

Andrew Keen argues that we need an elite, without it we are doomed ! Ummm, the calling for an elite, "requiring an authoritative voice",I say, be careful what you wish for. (did not someone try it, leading to WW2) The computer is the instrument of the modern state, it is also the tool for freedom from the dictator.

The 7 Wonders of the Totalitarian World
CarnivalBorn
by CarnivalBorn  8-7-2007
"Throughout history, it is the deep-pocketed madmen who tend to leave behind the biggest wonders. And while last month's election of the New Seven Wonders of the World hints at this point -- the emperors who fed Christians to the lions in the Roman Coliseum were neither mild-mannered nor impoverished -- they're basically positive tributes to mankind's triumphant, enduring half. But what of the tyranny that drove men to produce such wonders? On some level, each of the New Seven is also a colossal monument to narcissism, either some ruler or some culture's desire to go bigger and leave a mark that cannot be erased -- a sentiment not unlike the one held by some of today's most ruthless dictators. With that in mind, we created the following list, celebrating those modern monuments from the totalitarian world that may or may not make it through the next coup. Check them out while you still can."

FTA: "Increasingly, the Western world has attitudes rather than policies. It's one thing to talk as a means to an end. But these days, for most midlevel powers, talks arethe end, talks without end. Because that's what civilized nations like doing – chit-chatting, shooting the breeze, having tea and crumpets, talking talking talking. Uncivilized nations like torturing dissidents, killing civilians, bombing villages,..."
