Anyone on The Left Approve of This?
bmeuppls
by bmeuppls  8-18-2008    2
Cont... by mucking up my comments section with posts that said nothing, but all used the same in-joke pseudonym. Next, the tiny little thugs started putting up comments in my name and regular commenters's names, even using the word "nigger" in one of those posts -- as if that commenter had said it. That's straight defamation, and completely disgusting. Finally, after I started deleting comments that were clearly from people sent over here to be part of a mob to punish me for speech unapproved by the liberalocracy, the tiny thugs started posting huge spam posts like the one above -- also in my name -- from proxy servers in Germany, etc. So, in favor of your fellow travelers, or not?

Newly Released Federal Documents Reveals Julia Child Among Spies
merrie
by merrie  8-15-2008    1
They studied military plans, created propaganda, infiltrated enemy ranks and stirred resistance among foreign troops. Among the more than 35,000 OSS personnel files are applications, commendations and handwritten notes identifying young recruits who, like Child, Goldberg and Berg, earned greater acclaim in other fields — Arthur Schlesinger Jr., a historian and special assistant to President Kennedy; Sterling Hayden, a film and television actor whose work included a role in "The Godfather"; and Thomas Braden, an author whose "Eight Is Enough" book inspired the 1970s television series. Other notables identified in the files include John Hemingway, son of author Ernest Hemingway; Quentin and Kermit Roosevelt, sons of President Theodore Roosevelt, and Miles Copeland, father of Stewart Copeland, drummer for the band The Police. The release of the OSS personnel files uncloaks one of the last secrets from the short-lived wartime intelligence agency.

"Digital drugs" panic hypochondriac-paranoid parents
pocketfulofsunshine
by pocketfulofsunshine  8-14-2008
Having sampled a few "doses" with names like "Viagra," "Peyote," and "Opium," I can safely say that the only psychological impact these have is to induce a mild headache. The tones are loud and annoying and inharmonious, and each time I've felt pretty much the same after as before, only increasingly annoyed. In fact, I'm "high" on digital heroin as I write this. If there is any mental impact from these things it is pretty clearly psychosomatic: If you think an MP3 can make you feel drunk, then maybe you really can zone yourself into acting that way, though I can see how a soothing MP3 track could calm you down after a hard day at junior high. (As a side note I'll also add that some people fear that idoser-type software is simply a cleverly disguised way to get malware onto your computer.)

The Five GOP Senators Killing The Energy Issue For Americans
merrie
by merrie  8-13-2008    1
The WSJ explains that by "riding voter discontent over high gas prices, the GOP has made antidrilling Democrats this summer's headlines." But, along comes the Gang of 10, complete with five GOP senators who are quite eager to stick it to conservatives and cave in to the Democrats. The plan is a Democratic giveaway. New production on offshore federal lands is left to state legislatures, and then in only four coastal states. The regulatory hurdles are huge. And the bill bars drilling within 50 miles of the coast -- putting off limits some of the most productive areas. Alaska's oil-rich Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is still a no-go. The highlight is instead $84 billion in tax credits, subsidies and federal handouts for alternative fuels and renewables. The Gang of 10 intends to pay for all this in part by raising taxes on . . . oil companies! The Republican Five has potentially given antidrilling Democrats the political cover they need to neutralize energy through November.
