The Globlization Of Gay Bashing
debbyski
by debbyski  1-3-2010    1
"This destitute nation is the kind of place that you may have seen in late night infomercials where flies buzz around the lips of starving children. Yet, the good citizens of Burundi have time to chant and hold signs demanding the imprisonment of homosexuals. n Nigeria, lawmakers are debating a bill that would imprison gay people who live together and jail anyone who doesn’t rat out the gay couples. What we are seeing in front of our eyes is the globalization of gay bashing. The United States has exported marketing techniques and church structures to culturally homophobic countries. The sexual minorities caught in these nations do not have the same freedoms that we enjoy in the west, so they can’t fight back. They are essentially voiceless and fearful – allowing insidious myths and stereotypes to go unchallenged. With gay people effectively demonized and hatred promoted by civic and religious leaders, hysteria on gay issues ensues. "

My Top Ten List
debbyski
by debbyski  12-14-2009    18
#11. Gays are not full of drama, and shame on the gays that perpetuate that myth--they should know better. Here are some things about me which are NOT myths: 1. I can be friends with straight women--yay! In fact some of my best friends are straight females. 2. I am in therapy for coming out issues and to see what I want to do with the rest of my life--she's really good if anyone wants her name and number :) 3. I have a girlfriend and I love her. 4. I have more than one cat. 5. I have a dog too! 6. I grew up very, very, poor, but I have money now-- money doesn't make you happy--but it does pay the bills :) 7. My best asset is my kindness--and I guess you could say it is my worst fault too sometimes. Any other clippers wanna chip in with their best attributes or ya know worst faults? :D

"And another thing, equally relevant and always worth remembering: Europe is free today because of the likes of Richard Todd, and Paddy and Tom Clancy, and John Howard, and Guy Gibson. For behind all great myths are usually great truths. The problem is that we usually don't know what they are." If you have never experienced Liam's music, you should treat yourself :) http://www.liamclancy.com

Was Jesus taught by the Druids of Glastonbury? New film claims it is possible he came to England
Jacob173
by Jacob173  11-26-2009
There is no historical evidence that Joesph of Arimathea was related to Jesus. Additionally, there is no historical evidence that Joesph of Arimathea had any connection with the British Isles. There are several records that claim to identify the earliest Christian missionaries to Britain. The earliest of them are from the late 2nd early 3rd century (long after Joseph would have died). The earliest document claiming that Joseph of Arimathea went to Britain is from the 9th century. Conclusion, this is a fantasy with no basis in fact.

The Invention of the Jewish People
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  11-25-2009
The book has been extravagantly denounced and praised, often on the basis of whether or not the reader agrees with his politics. “Every generation of Jewish historians has faced the same task: to retell and adapt the story to meet the needs of its own situation.” The same could be said of all nations and religions. Perhaps that is why — on both sides of the argument — some myths stubbornly persist no matter how often they are debunked while other indubitable facts continually fail to gain traction. Shlomo Sand’s latest work has spent 19 weeks on Israel’s bestseller list. Reviews

Holder's former law firm representing 17 detainees - Conflict of Interest?
billpar
by billpar  11-19-2009
The Senate shrugged at the glaring conflict of interest Attorney General Holder presents in handling Gitmo legal issues. Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Cucullu, author of Inside Gitmo: The True Story Behind the Myths of Guantanamo Bay, makes the ethical problem plain: As a senior partner, he undoubtedly had significant input on what kind of charity cases his firm picked up. Even now, his Covington colleagues continue to allege rampant torture at Gitmo. They’re fighting hard to have detainees tried through the US court system—essentially given the same rights as US citizens. And their arguments and plans hinge largely on having Holder issue a bad report card. Recent polls indicate that at least half of Americans disagree with affording the detainees legal rights on US soil. Will they have the same access to Holder’s ears as his former colleagues do?
