POPSAmerican Idol Dumps Paula Abdul The show's producer Orland Pawlenty said that they had agreed to provide her with her own hair stylist, makeup artist, masseuse, pedicurist, Brazilian wax waxer, and proctologist, but that they had to draw the line at hiring her own manicurist. Ms. Abdul was apparently so angry that she grabbed some sheet music and tore it into dozens of pieces. She then screamed at Pawlenty how come (Simon) Cowell gets to have his own personal eyebrow plucker, lip outliner, chest hair comber, and lap dancer.

POPSA Culture Soaked in Blood We’re confiscating shampoo from carry-on luggage at airports while at the same time handing out high-powered weaponry to criminals and psychotics at gun shows. I believe in everyone’s right to own firearms. I also believe that everyone should have the common sense to responsibly care for these handguns and keep them out of the reach of children. You can regulate things, you cannot regulate common sense and responsibility.

POPSPhil Spector found guilty of actress' 2003 murder " Spector has won two Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989, but he stayed out of the public eye for two decades before his 2003 arrest in Clarkson's death. In the 1960s, he became famous as the man behind the "Wall of Sound," an instrumentally dense swirl of melody and percussion underlying such tunes as the Ronettes' "Be My Baby," the Righteous Brothers' "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" and Ike and Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High." He later produced the Beatles' "Let It Be" album, John Lennon's "Imagine" and the Ramones' "End of the Century."

POPSProducer Phil Spector Guilty Of Murder FTA:The six-man, six-woman jury had begun deliberating on March 26 after a five-month court case which followed his first trial in 2007 that ended deadlocked with jurors unable to agree a unanimous verdict. Prosecutors said Spector had shot dead former B-movie actress Lana Clarkson at his home in the early hours of February 3, 2003 after meeting her only a few hours before at the Hollywood nightclub where she worked. Defense lawyers said that 40-year-old Clarkson, best-known for her role in Roger Corman's 1985 cult classic "The Barbarian Queen" but whose career had stalled at the time of her death, killed herself

POPSJury to tour Phil Spector ho Deputy district attorneys Alan Jackson and Truc Do gave the judge e-mail exchanges they obtained between Spector and his first defense team in which a jury consultant suggested "the fountain be on full bore." During the first jury's tour, the panelists asked to have the fountain turned on and off so they could hear the ambient noise from it. Fidler agreed to consider having the fountain on if it is found that there is only an on-off switch and no way to manipulate the sound. Defense attorney Doron Weinberg wants to duplicate the scene on Feb. 3, 2003, when Clarkson came there with Spector. A time for the tour was not immediately set but was expected to take place next week.

POPSHip-hop homophobes continues: Why do they do it? Why do hip-hop artists – often the victims of bigotry themselves – incite this hatred? For 10 years, Terrence Dean was at the heart of the hip-hop scene as a producer at MTV and Warner Brothers. His life is as ghetto as any of the big name artists. His mother was a heroin-addicted, Aids-infected prostitute whose "clients" held Terrence hostage at gunpoint. His drunken grandmother raised him in the slums of Detroit, and he eventually ended up in prison. When he was released, he headed for Hollywood – and he was amazed to stumble into a gay underworld stocked with some of the biggest names in hip-hop. (more at source)

POPSLet me tell you about last night I was a Zeppelin fan in my youth and I still pull those tunes out when I want to kick-start my rebel side. These days my musical tastes fall more in line with contemporary jazz, but there really is not a focal point. I like it all - blugrass, folk, 70s and 80s rock, some country, enya.. you name it. Last night was a post-modern mix of the most unlikely kind. The raw voice of Plant with the subtle sweetness and brilliantly soft sounding voice of Alison Krauss. It was quite a show. Bluegrass mixed with a Zeppelin twist and a folksy pop (speaking of post-modern) sound weaving in and out. I loved it. Most of all I just love Alison. Last night was supposed to be their finale performance but I hear they have added dates and are planning a new album.

POPSArt/Pop Nerds of the World Unite: the Music of Stephin Merritt Okay, it may make me a culture snob or a geek, but I've got to admit, I wear brown, and I loved "69 Love Songs." And from the looks of this photo, Stephin Merritt has stolen my appartment. Still, great to see him getting some press. I recommend his music to everybody. On a deeper, more disturbing level, the fact that he wears the same clothes as I do, has the same apartment as I do, and seems to listen to the same music as I do makes me suddenly insecure about the uniqueness of my identity! I guess I'm different, just like everyone else. :P
