POPSiLike's Valuation Roller Coaster The social media player, iLike, has had a roller coaster ride in its valuation. Perhaps it has been a fun time for the customers (like me), listening and sharing their music tastes. And, perhaps it was an exciting ride for the staff, as they counted their paper money stock options. However, for the investors (e.g., Ticketmaster), who appear to be losing at least half their value, it must have felt like tossing your lunch after the worst ride at the fair.

POPSDocumentary makers look for the next eco-blockbuster The film unfolds like a mystery, with Mr Clover as detective. The film-makers travel to Nova Scotia, the Bahamas, Tokyo and the Mediterranean, as well as to a small village in west Africa whose supply of fish has been halved in recent years as a result of over-fishing. Ignorance, corruption and greed all play a part. As Robert Redford, founder of the Sundance film festival, says: “Just explaining the problem isn’t enough. You have to show what people can do about the problem.”

POPS'Pull My Finger' subject of court fight Air-o-Matic says its app, "Pull My Finger" has a unique brand identity that its competitor has infringed. It wants $50,000 from Infomedia to settle the dispute and may sue in federal court. In a formal complaint filed in a Denver, Colorado, federal court, however, InfoMedia says the phrase is a common "descriptive" term used in its advertising and cannot be trademarked. The company wants a judge to step in now, before any lawsuit is filed, and allow it to continue to use the phrase.

POPSThe Daily Show vs. Blovation Fest 2008! I've been watching the Daily Show since its first episode, and I started taking it serriously when Jon upped the IQ quotient by replacing Craig Killborne. Now the show pretty much only does indie film makers, political wonks, and third world presidents. How cool is that? The only people who do more serious interviews are Charlie Rose and Bill Moyers, and actually, Bill Moyers described Jon as "The Mark Twain of our time." But why did I clip? for the "Blovation Fest" Quote, which by the way, will be the festival of avant garde noise-punk music I attempt to put on this fall. ;)

POPSAppeal to All Americans-Support the Arts For all Americans concerned about the quality of education in general, & of arts education in particular (dance, visual arts, music, theatre) I'd encourage you to support the following principles espoused by these educators. Statistics show that nations who have the arts & especially music at the core of their curriculum are doing a whole lot better in their academic achievement than those who don't. It's really sad to me that some in authority have removed the arts from the curriculum when just a little investigation into history reveals the ancients & most if not all great ancient cultures saw all science & art interwoven & needed for a well rounded education.
