About Obama’s Comments At The Holocaust Memorial And Museum
merrie
by merrie  Today 7:52 AM
continued; going without at home to help the fighting men overseas. Words matter. Perhaps my words in the post, Obama: WWII won by speaking out as one voice, were not adequate to portray the betrayal of America’s–and the worlds–greatest generation. Perhaps I am simply making too much of nothing. Sure, Obama will say, it was just a euphemism; of course he honors the sacrifices, blah blah blah. But I do not believe this is the truth. I believe that his words do mean something. His words assault the reality and remove the sacrifices. His words turn my grandparents and great uncles and great aunts into nothing, pushed aside in favor of modern liberal rhetoric with no goal beyond winning an election. Our greatest generation did not speak out. They fought; they sacrificed; they died; and, ultimately, they saved the world.

Obama backs Israel strike
tabsey
by tabsey  Today 3:45 AM
Just about his first words when he beat off Hillary were pro Israel. He now appears happy with the title of leader of a war machine. Seems happy to follow the Jews demands. Am I getting ahead of myself, as this sort of press doesn't really know what is happening.

The Seven Sweetest Fictional Theme Parks Pt 1 (#7 - #5)
revenantdm
by revenantdm  7-22-2008
Cartmanland, Horrorland from Goosebumps, and the Granddaddy of all fictional theme parks: Westworld! Part 2 gets better with Wally World, Thrill World, Itchy and Scratchy Land, and I am not going to tell you what Number One is.... Not even a hint.... I personally love theme parks and have been to some of the best: Disneyland, Six Flags, Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm, Raging Waters, California Adventure, Busch Gardens, Universal Studios California, Palisades Park, and Astroworld... and the biggest of them all - Las Vegas! But if you like sci-fi or adventure thrillers pick up Dream Park by Larry Niven and Steven Barnes (or the 4 or so sequels), Utopia by Lincoln Childs, or Futureworld by Phillip J. Farmer. You will love them!

Da Vinci's Model Car
cavey1732
by cavey1732  7-17-2008
Although most historians agree the birth of the modern car came about in the late 19th century when two Germans, Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz, designed real, working internal combustion engines, experiments with moving vehicles weren't uncommon beforehand. As far back as 1770, a Frenchman named Nicolas Cugnot developed a steam-powered machine, the Fardier, which could crawl through the streets of Paris at about two miles per hour. It was more than 500 years ago, however -- sometime around the year 1478 to be more or less specific -- when Leonardo drew out his plans for the world's first self-propelled vehicle. A working model of Leonardo Da Vinci's car on display at the Museum of the History of Science in Florence, Italy.

Each Parasaurolophus probably had a voice that was distinctive enough not only to distinguish it from other dinosaurs, but from other Parasaurolophuses. The sound may have been somewhat birdlike, and they may have made songs of some sort to call to one another.

The Do-Good Imperative
wildcat
by wildcat  7-14-2008    1
How about a windup flashlight crossed with a cell phone charger? It's low tech meets high tech with rugged, toylike charm. Or charcoal made from plant waste instead of wood, developed for Haiti by MIT's D-Lab? Talk about a greener way to barbecue. (The technology might also help save endangered African gorillas. A new study published in Science links organized crime rings cutting trees for charcoal in Congo with a spate of recent gorilla murders.)

Kara Walker Art Exhibit "My Complement, My Enemy, My Oppressor"
nubinikki
by nubinikki  7-13-2008
I had the good fortune to see Kara Walker's exhibit at the Hammer Museum hear in Los Angeles. I'm not an artist, nor do I have an educational background in art, but I have to say I was beyond impressed with her work. Her pieces are undoubtedly controversial, especially in an era where I've actually heard people say out loud "There is no racism" and "forget slavery...it was so long ago!" Her artwork, a mix of murals, sketches, wall projections, puppetry, and video made me think deeply about the existence -both past and present- of oppression in the forms of racism and patriarchy. I proudly hale Kara Walker as one bad ass Invincible Sista.
