POPSBiden: "I Have Been Field Dressed!" Update: 10:20 - Quite literally in the same breath, Joe laments, "I'm not gonna change..." and then goes on to boast about his record of change. Update: 10:24 - After an unsteady beginning, Palin seemed to get consistenly more comfortable (and more effective throughout the debate). In the home stretch, she's managing to stay on positive notes, enunciating her and McCain's strong points, and thus keeping possession of the ball, leaving Biden to spend much of his times grouchily refuting her. Update: 10:28 - On the final question regarding "changing the tone" in Washington, Joe claims he has never - not since his freshman year anyway - questioned the motives (or opposed to the judgment) of a fellow Senator. Fact check away. Update: 10:38 - Was anyone else bracing for an awkward "hot mic" moment after the debate ended and they left both candidates' mics open?

POPSIt's Dancing--Not The Key To World Peace "Still don't believe me? Watch "Dancing" with the sound turned off and then tell me it says something "really poignant about humanity as a whole." Or download the ring tone or the music only. Is that a better world you're hearing? Or just the next generation's answer to Enya?"

POPSThe Media's "Wes Clark Hyperventorama"
Gen. Clark was absolutely right in his praise and valid criticism of Sen. McCain. Bob Schieffer has an opportunity here to show himself to be a responsible journalist by putting the comments back in their proper context, i.e. when he makes his closing comments on Face the Nation. But I'm not holding my breath on that one! Brandon, can you get the vets in your "Veterans Respond to General Clark's Comments" on video? YouTube would be a great vehicle for this. Thanks for the posts. for the last four years, so I am not acclimatized to the US media anymore. WTF happened to my country????? No one has bothered to look at McCains voting record on vet issues for the last twenty years. He's voted no on practically every piece of legislation benefiting the VA. If he used his "military/vet/pow" creds to boost the VA, then I and many of my younger brothers and sisters from Iraq and Afghanistan would probably not have the serious problems they have getting their benefits.

POPSSome Iraqi News Not Reported By "The Media" Meanwhile Bill Roggio reports that a released Gitmo detainee is back to the front and is responsible for attacks inside Iraq : The detainee, Abdullah Salih al Ajmi, drove a armored truck packed with explosives into a Iraqi army base and detonated it, killing 13 Iraqi army soldiers and wounding 42. http://www.longwarjournal.org/archives/2008/06/released_guantanamo.php Just the tip of the iceberg I’m afraid after our courts release a large chunk of these guys. Al Qaeda in Iraq, through its puppet organization the Islamic State of Iraq, released its latest propaganda video on June 23. The video contains a montage of attacks throughout Iraq, and features two Kuwaiti al Qaeda operatives who conducted strikes in Mosul. One of the operatives was released from the US military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The Islamic State of Iraq used footage taken at Combat Outpost Inman by this reporter in Mosul in March of this year.

POPSDEATHS: THE VERY REAL EFFECT OF Boumediene v Bush Try to find a reference to the case name/style in an AP story (I cannot remember when a story on a USSC decision did not carry the case name/style.): http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080612/ap_on_go_su_co/scotus_guantanamo or http://www.iht.com/articles/2008/06/12/america/gitmoruling.php

2. "Vet" (Open on a short-haired, twentysomething YOUNG WOMAN as she puts on a white lab coat in an X-ray room. A door opens and a VETERINARIAN appears holding a domesticated white rabbit, which the VET pets as it purrs gently. She throws the YOUNG WOMAN a stethoscope.) VET: Now remember, people's animals are like members of their family. So it's important that we stress to them the gentle methods and safety precautions we employ while the pets are here in our supervision. Know what I mean? (Cut to the same YOUNG WOMAN at Abu Ghraib, smashing a prisoner in the face with the butt of her rifle, hogtying naked prisoners, posing in front of a naked dogpile of blindfolded prisoners with a "thumbs up" as a cigarette dangles from her lower lip. Cut back to the VET's office, where the YOUNG WOMAN responds.) YOUNG WOMAN: Yes, ma'am. (Accidentally laughs.) VET: What's so funny? YOUNG WOMAN: Nothing. Yeah, Be all you can be.

POPSApril 4, 1968: RFK Delivering News of Martin Luther King's Death A moving speech...I get chills and tears in my eyes when I hear it, but this montage makes it even more emotional for me and reminds me, 40 years ago we lost 2 great men… The gathering was actually a planned campaign rally for Robert Kennedy in his bid to get the 1968 Democratic nomination for President. Just after he arrived by plane at Indianapolis, Kennedy was told of King's death. He was advised by police against making the campaign stop which was in a part of the city considered to be a dangerous ghetto. But Kennedy insisted on going. He arrived to find the people in an upbeat mood, anticipating the excitement of a Kennedy appearance. He climbed onto the platform, and realizing they did not know, broke the news. His passionate speech was credited with quelling violence in the city, when other American cities had exploded with violence and anger.

POPS Many, Perhaps Most, Nearby Sun-Like Stars May Form Rocky Planets One intriguing thing about meeting people from another planet would be to find the role of religion in their culture (if they bother with religion). If they don't, many would see the need to convert them, if they did, would it be the same as ours, or would some see the need to convert them. Sorry, just an aside.

POPSJon Stewart's Hilarious Take on Hilary Tearing Up Though I don't support Hillary, I gotta say the hoopla over a little emotion is bullshit...Geez, Even our Dumbfuck Preznit admitted he cries a lot...and i'm not surprised...he oughta cry a LOT! Stewart's piece is very funny, especially Ghouliani actually bringing up 911 in relation to crying....as Jon said, "ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?"

POPSStop our networks from helping Al Qaeda Not surprising, considering what we know about Bilal Hussein (and others). Hussein was the guy who won a Pulitzer for his photos in Iraq but who was also detained by the military for his connection with terrorists.
