POPSGuitar o rama... Guitar hero done full house Christmas lights style! I've been looking into this Light o Rama quite a bit lately and it looks like it's pretty cool stuff though this is the first interactive version I've seen. I'd like to see it done with some more intense music but for a first round this is pretty awesome. For those that don't know, Light o Rama is a light controller designed for controlling ornamental lighting like this. You can find some pretty amazing displays on youtube if you look around.

POPSForest Service warns Coloradans: Beware of camping Latinos More: Polly Baca, co-chairwoman of the Colorado Latino Forum, told the Denver Channel that the Forest Service warning is racist and ill-conceived and threatening. “It’s discriminatory and it puts Hispanic campers in danger.” Marvink Correa, spokesman for the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition, said that the next time he goes camping, he would “be sure to play nothing but Bruce Springsteen.”

POPSSoliloquy of the Blue Whale More: "I’ll tell you the worst of it, though. It’s the loneliness. I haven’t seen one of my kind for ten years, although we sing to one another when we can. I can hear my kin far away because our songs can carry 500 miles on a good day. But then I’m straight out paranoid, no pods for me anywhere. One year, I’ve got to conquer my fear and contact some friends. The worst end of all would be to die of loneliness… I wonder some times if I’m losing my mind… when I sing to myself . . . If you’ve read this far, remember us, please remember…"

POPSSuper POP we produce the music ourselves The tecnobrega has been developing the business model of being 100% digital free copying, free distribution for at least six years. Tecnobrega is an unconventional sound and an unconventional music model. The music industry may not approve of all its methods - but it seems that in Belem the will of the consumer is a more powerful voice and that in the end may prove decisive.

POPSThe Daily Show vs. Blovation Fest 2008! I've been watching the Daily Show since its first episode, and I started taking it serriously when Jon upped the IQ quotient by replacing Craig Killborne. Now the show pretty much only does indie film makers, political wonks, and third world presidents. How cool is that? The only people who do more serious interviews are Charlie Rose and Bill Moyers, and actually, Bill Moyers described Jon as "The Mark Twain of our time." But why did I clip? for the "Blovation Fest" Quote, which by the way, will be the festival of avant garde noise-punk music I attempt to put on this fall. ;)

POPSArab Woman Trill/shriek At Obama Rallies-Praise Allah
Arab woman have been trilling at Obama rallies! I personally think this is a Republican dirty trick but -- I love it! Wow...I'd pay 10,000 dinars for a mix of a classic Obama rap with Arab woman trilling throughout; makes me want to jump up and set off firecrackers. Islam in slipping into our culture, real quick. It's getting quick acceptance. I did a google and found this: A Black rap with Arab music, at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVYoEH6VEwQ&feature=related The mix is happening (Gotta get this on my ipod!) & going the other way, too. Here's Taha doing Clash's 'Rock the Casbah," at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U76JhPVIoIs&feature=related Yanks, BTW, aren't really good for religious wars despite years of propaganda about Islamicfascism or something like that; Islam didn't do 9/11; 16 Saudi's did. Despite Bush/Cheney, neocon & zionist ideologies, hating all Muslims ain't gonna take root. Music, etc. 2good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwZZPUk4C1M&f

POPSChoosing randomly? The entertainment options on offer to us are almost unlimited. Trying to make an informed choice between all possible alternatives would take too long: they're all good, so why not pick one at random? But is this a warning sign of terminal decadence? The idea that so many pleasures are available to us that we're unable to choose has a hint of the last days of Rome about it." I think that in a way it is a sign of this age of information and higher availabilities. It calls for higher levels of clarity and processing. otherwise we'll be lost in translation...

POPSLet me tell you about last night I was a Zeppelin fan in my youth and I still pull those tunes out when I want to kick-start my rebel side. These days my musical tastes fall more in line with contemporary jazz, but there really is not a focal point. I like it all - blugrass, folk, 70s and 80s rock, some country, enya.. you name it. Last night was a post-modern mix of the most unlikely kind. The raw voice of Plant with the subtle sweetness and brilliantly soft sounding voice of Alison Krauss. It was quite a show. Bluegrass mixed with a Zeppelin twist and a folksy pop (speaking of post-modern) sound weaving in and out. I loved it. Most of all I just love Alison. Last night was supposed to be their finale performance but I hear they have added dates and are planning a new album.
