POPSThe Nobel Peace Prize is Over It was over for me when Carter & Arafat received it. But sadly, in most peoples' common sense minds, this is the truth. And this from Newsweek!!!

POPSLegalized Bribery in American Politics Just one in a thousand adult Americans contributed $1,000 or more to any candidate in the last election, yet candidates for the 2004 presidential nomination raised more than 80 percent of their individual investments from these elites. In other words, with regard to using money to influence presidential candidates, 0.1% of Americans account for 80% of the influence. 2300 energy companies lobbied Congress between 1998 and 2004, with $984 million paid for lobbyists. Why pay a lobbyist $300,000? Because it’s a great investment, of course. Does anyone believe the legal fiction that the purpose of a lobbyist is to educate politicians on the issues? Of course not. Those huge bucks are paid out for skilled middle-men and women to discreetly (or not so discreetly) convey the message that a politician will be handsomely rewarded for screwing over his or her constituents in favor of the lobbyist’s employer.

POPSA Lottery Winning Tale Of Easy Come Easy Go Greed is in us all, young and old. Fortunately for most of us this monster that lives within our brain cells usually doesn't get much of a chance to rear its ugly head. Now and then it will give you a poke when a cashier gives you too much change and you remain silent or you find a thingamajig tucked in the corner of your shopping cart after leaving the store, knowing it did not get a UPC scan and you take it with you anyway. The sad part of coming into a large sum of money is that the “ME” in us grows humongous and you can't spend the bankroll fast enough to accumulate all those baubles and doodads you believe poor little ole you have done without for so long. POPSThe Graying of Abortionists "Of course Salon.com says this is because of anti-abortion "terrorism" like the murder of Dr. Tiller last week. But I'm pretty sure this drop off didn't start last Sunday. And what this actually shows is that societal pressures are working. So that's the good news. The bad news is that abortion is a multi-million dollar industry and as long as they're paying, some shell of a human with an online medical degree will step up and agree to rip babies limb from limb for money. And when these hacks hurt women with botched abortions Salon.com, I'm sure, will blame you. That's right. You for stigmatizing abortion and making it so difficult to fill those spots. "

POPS “Take this job and shove it!” No waitress, factory worker, clerk or bottle washer ever got to deliver a “Take this job and shove it!” like that. Did any country western star ever even think of writing that one? Boo hoo. That’s for the rest of us, because Jake, his boss Edward Libby, these nameless credit-default swap electricians … the ones Jake says shafted us when he was honestly raking in a couple million a year as a financial products plumber in that crappy house … and all the pols and bureaucratic building inspectors who stood by, have put us in a position where we have to pay people who made obscene amounts of money on this screwed-up system even more obscene amounts of money to unscrew it. If in fact that is what they are doing, a point about which I am not confident. I bet we can fly in a planeload of financial brainiacs from Bangalore at a fraction of Jake’s price. Outsourcing Wall Street to India. That’d get their attention.

POPSSmoking Gun: Caller Explains Stimulus As Obama Democratic Patronage System!
So they're gonna hold some back and that's where... the real bucks will be spent, right up close to the election. ... It's not a stimulus package, it's not pork! It's a job patronage system ... there's gonna be more working for the Democrats in a patronage system than the United States Army... And the jobs are gonna be camouflaged in a million different ways, whether you're workin' for the city, or workin' for the state, but when the election comes around, you're gonna be obligated to go out and get that vote... ...like ACORN, except the jobs will be larger scale. I just wanted to say that, because I was really depressed when they told me, because I really thought they'd be different. If I've done nothing else in my life, I've informed what that bill really is... it's a job patronage system. POPSBest Way To Ensure Catastrophe Is To “Act Now” Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank, and Harry Reid. Appearing on The Rush Limbaugh Show last week, I got a little muddled over two adjoining newspaper clippings—one on the stimulus, the other on those octuplets in California — and for a brief moment the two stories converged. Everyone’s hammering that mom—she’s divorced, unemployed, living in a small house with parents who have a million bucks’ worth of debt, and she’s already got six kids. So she has in vitro fertilization to have eight more. But isn’t that exactly what the Feds have done? Last fall, they gave birth to an $850 billion bailout they couldn’t afford and didn’t have enough time to keep an eye on, and now four months later they’re going to do it all over again, but this time they want trillionuplets. Barney and Nancy represent the in vitro fertilization of the federal budget. And it’s the taxpayers who’ll get stuck with the diapers. by mark steyn

POPS Big Bailouts, Bigger Bucks Whenever I discussed the current bailout situation with people, I find they have a hard time comprehending the actual numbers involved. That became a problem while doing the research for the Bailout Nation book. I needed some way to put this into proper historical perspective. The only single American event in history that even comes close to matching the cost of the credit crisis is World War II: Original Cost: $288 billion, Inflation Adjusted Cost: $3.6 trillion The $4.6165 trillion dollars committed so far is about a trillion dollars ($979 billion dollars) greater than the entire cost of World War II borne by the United States: $3.6 trillion, adjusted for inflation (original cost was $288 billion). Go figure: WWII was a relative bargain. I estimate that by the time we get through 2010, the final bill may scale up to as much as $10 trillion dollars… By Barry Ritholtz - November 25th, 2008, 7:19AM

POPSBailout Bucks in Their Pocket, Citigroup Keeps Lobbying “We are significant investors in Citigroup and are also holding a significant amount of risk if some of these assets fail,“ Stephen Ellis, vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense said. “The same guys who’ve got their hand out are also badgering and lobbying members of Congress to get other perks and sweetheart deals for themselves…Are we paying them to lobby ourselves?“ And we're supposed to be all freaked out about the automakers and the unions.

POPSGovernments Ignore Starving To Prop Up Banks Experts have blamed the increase in famine on a number of factors such as oil prices, the growing use of biofuels and increased consumption of high-calorie food, particularly meat, in emerging economies. World Food Day hopes to divert attention back onto this ongoing food crisis. Almost a BILLION people are starving. A billion!! Can we even fathom, how many people that is, who are desperately trying to survive from day to day? I read, that on a 2 dollar a day wage, people are having to spend about $1,77 on food and the prices are so high, that it doesn't even cover their daily caloric needs. That leaves precious little money for housing, health, education, etc. Could YOU feed yourself and your family for less than 2 bucks a day... EVERY day... and still be able to send your children to school, get healthcare, etc? Just imagine if it were you.

POPSMcCain Drilling Reversal a $ Bonanza McCain's "straight talk" is apparently for sale. According to the report, "Oil and gas executives have not traditionally been a major source of campaign money for McCain. A breakdown of giving by the Center for Responsive Politics shows the industry falls 12th on a list of top donors, well behind securities firms, lawyers, banks, and real estate and health professionals." Now they dump big bucks into his campaign. I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

POPSColorado Car Taxes - Up Up Up The whole article is slanted in a very interesting way. Our Democrat governor isn't proposing tax increases - merely fee modifications which can be done without asking any of those stupid voters about whether they want to be told it will cost them $100 bucks more to get their license plates renewed every single year from now on till the end of time. (and that $100 comes from more honest reporting about what is being proposed). And its not even the governor's idea - its just the least costly option of some blue-ribbon transportation panel. No, no, no - he's not proposing any tax increase. Just that the wise men's recommendations be implemented.

POPSThe Invisible Man January, '08. Kucinich has been denied the right to debate in Iowa and on ABC (Disney, Inc.) and has had his image excised from a photograph of democratic candidates, said photo sent all over the world. After an early debate, when a national poll revealed that viewers considered him the winner, mainstream media declared him "unelectable" and began to ignore him completely. Nevertheless, he has won polls by ABC, MSNBC, CSPAN, Democracy For America, the John Edwards Campaign (!) and every online poll I'm aware of that would attract progressive democrats and independents. On January 7, Jay Leno asked Ron Paul who on the democratic side he liked best. When Paul mentioned "Dennis" the crowd erupted in applause.

POPSTshad wants 300'000 euro pro «stolen» kid In my opinion, they are making just the max of money. We are talking about nurses and helpers that wanted help to bring african children into a better future. Tshad in africa is a country where slavery is not at all unusual. They sell children sometimes for a few bucks and send them into some guerillia or working slaves without rights. Just the you-shut-up-right. Now they found a smarter way to get rich. And do you believe that that money comes really to the concerned children? Har, har, har: you don't know african corruption!

POPSTo Name Their Kids, People Turn to Consultants
More: Moss, who admits that she had doubts when she first launched her personal naming service. "I thought, 'Who's going to want to pay us to help name their baby?' But a lot of people really need an outside, third-party, independent input. I was surprised at the demand." Albert Mehrabian, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of California at Los Angeles and author of "The Baby Name Report Card." "The reaction your name prompts from other people can help form your personality. For example, Chad scored consistently high in all categories, while Bud ranked low – including a zero in the "successful" category. The worst names he has encountered include Fayle, Farm, and Latrina for girls, and Cobra, Jane, and Swindle for boys – "equivalent in intensity to the effects of dressing a boy in girls' clothing, or dying a child's hair blue or pink," he states in his findings. Alfie, a derivation of Alfred, means "one who counsels the elves

POPS AS IRAQ IMPROVES, COVERAGE DRIES UP Still, for the 100-proof nastiness of the intelligentsia, you have to move to the "entertainment" world. Hollywood declines to make a single movie about any of our Medal of Honor winners in Iraq - but has deluged us with left-wing diatribes, as activist actors and directors parade by with their limp bayonets fixed. A number of critics have noted that the American people refuse to pay an hour's wages to see these films. Last weekend's release, "Lions For Lambs," earned less than $7 million, despite starring Tom Cruise, Robert Redford and Meryl "America's in Peril" Streep. And that was the big-bucks earner so far. Scriptwriters, directors and vanity-project actors (how many have been to Iraq?) scratch their heads and deplore our apathy. They fail to grasp what's truly happening: We, the citizens and moviegoers, simply reject these films' underlying message. The unifying thread is that the only heroes are stay-at-homes who bravely fight for the truth.
