Lawmakers seek ban on laptops in airliner cockpits
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  11-3-2009    1
This is the mentality of legislators. They approach this isolated situation as if it were a quickly escalating ‘problem’ that must be addressed immediately instead of leaving it to the airline to tighten their own rules of conduct for pilots. Legislators love to jump on stuff like this because it has the appearance, to us lowly tax payers, that they are coming to our rescue to protet us from the evil use of laptops in cockpits. And it makes them feel good about themselves that they are doing something useful. More legislation! More rules! More laws! More oversight! Yeah, that will make us all be more responsible.

Keep the government out of the news business
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  11-6-2009
Turning to Washington for help to save the declining news business says much about the mentality of mainstream journalism leaders, an attitude that we and the government are on the same side. This is the mentality that led to the news establishment’s acceptance of the Iraq War. Go to the clip to learn what happened to Mother Jones after becoming a tax exempt non-profit after it reported on lobbying in Washington. Once you allow the government or private corporation to have any controlling link to the media you lose independence. Editors become fearful of criticizing the hand that feeds it. Publishers and benefactors become cozy and unbiased reports become fewer and fewer. Journalism becomes a de facto advertisement for consumer products. We hope in the future we’ll see more I.F. Stones, more guerrilla warriors on the Web, in print and on the air. Because of them—and not because of a government handout—great reporting will survive, as it always has.

Richmond gang rape seen as "nearly inevitable"
Lexica
by Lexica  11-2-2009    1
More: English teacher Jessica Price, who knows the victim and most of the arrested suspects, said the girl has helped in conflict-mediation groups wanted to join the Police Explorers, a Boy Scouts group that lets boys and girls learn law enforcement with local police… That such a girl could be so brutalized speaks more to a pack mentality, stoked by booze and street machismo, than it does to the general character of Richmond High's youths, Price said. "Those boys who did what they did weren't picturing that girl as a human," she said. "I think you see these kinds of boys at a lot of high schools - so desensitized it was like they saw her as a toy. Boys like that - there aren't many like them, but they can be so hard. All they needed was something to set them off." She told a school district safety panel last week that some girls trying to find out who had watched the rape were being threatened in the hallways - and that, too, she blames on a desensitized mentality.

One of The Biggest Bait-And-Switch Acts in History

I'm thinking it's time to pronounce Obama and his agenda precisely what they are - socialist and looking to bring down the last great remaining free capitalist system in the world so as to bring it in line with too much else of a statist world. What else can one call it with any degree of honesty? Certainly liberal no longer serves. The Left abandoned classic liberalism a decade ago. And the New Left has only gotten worse. It's time to draw the battle lines more clearly, start speaking of what freedom, capitalism, individualism and self-determinism actually are and explain to people how they won't be much of anything in some new Obama-designed state. It's time to forget about compromise and begin rejecting Obama and his grand plans completely as he and they deserve for being un-American in the most important meanings of the word. Obama sold his healthcare proposal as a way to reduce costs and help the economy. But, Pawlenty says,

Rich "Victims"
darkeforce
by darkeforce  10-25-2009
The conservatives have a mentality where they need to identify themselves as victims, no matter how good they have it, and then demand that things be made "better" for them, at the same time as they scream "oppression" at anyone who has a differing opinion. It's part-and-parcel of the pathological selfishness that marks right-wingers (really, only a step above sociopaths)

RA in Moscow Times:Clan Politics of Russia, Venezuela, and Iran
merrie
by merrie  9-18-2009    3
the leaders of these three countries regularly employ the powers of the state in support of clan-controlled businesses, especially in the energy and arms sectors. When Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin travels to Venezuela (he visits Caracas with extraordinary frequency), there is little to no separation between his diplomatic duties and personal financial interests in inking deals between Rosneft and PDVSA. When the Iranians travel to Caracas, they are given a red carpet welcome to jointly operated factories and the assistance of elaborate money-laundering networks. Chavez's family and close-knit clan of loyal military officers have become multibillionaires under his rule. Known as the boligarchs, they benefit directly from the alliance of Russia and Iran since it lends much-needed credibility and legitimacy to their plunder of the country.

You Don’t Have a Constitutional Right to Free Speech
billpar
by billpar  9-15-2009    3
Just look at the part that addresses speech, “Congress shall make no law…abridging the freedom of speech…” Nowhere does it say that you are granted the right of freedom of speech, it says you have it, were born with it, and the government cannot do anything about it. But that’s not how it’s viewed or even talked about by politicians these days. rockwell_freedom-of-speech By saying that someone has a Constitutional right for free speech implies that it is granted to you and, therefore, can be taken away at some point by amending the Constitution. While legally this is possibly true, trying to get that amendment passed would have about us much of a chance as getting a safe driver of the year award named after the late Teddy Kennedy. But the mentality that uses and teaches that erodes, even a little, our basic liberties. While our Founding Fathers agreed that our basic right to free speech was granted by God,

Food Is Power and the Powerful Are Poisoning Us
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  9-10-2009    6
I don’t think anyone disagrees that a single corporation can be more efficient than several smaller companies. However, when it comes to food production, bigger is not better. I am not a big fan of mega-corporations, I think they lose touch with consumers and this leads to them doing whatever they think is most financially beneficial to themselves without regard to their customers desires. It’s the old ‘too big to fail’ mentality. This loss of connection, along with us losing (giving up) our knowledge of how to grow our own food, is contributing to our poor diets and as a result our poor health. ‘Big Food’ produces more convenience foods, typically cheap and fatty, because it is cheaper for them to produce and because we buy it. In order for us to loosen the grip that ‘Big Food’ has on us and to regain our sense of self-sustainability, we are going to need a major shift in our commitment to our health and re-learning how to grow our own food is how this is going to happen.

Scott Ott's: Obama Will Urge Kids To Go To Private School
merrie

While the White House would not confirm the content of the leaked speech draft, a spokesman acknowledged that "You don't get to be as smart and cool as Barack Obama by sitting in P.S. 152, listening to some union lackey droning on, and then eating government surplus in the cafeteria." On Tuesday, the president will bypass parents, taking his message directly to kids in the classroom "in hopes that you'll pester Mom until she gets a second job to pay private-school tuition so you can escape the swirling vortex of ignorance and despair that is our government-run school system." "The only thing standing between you and success," the president will allegedly say, "is the mentality that the government will take care of you. Once you shake that, there's no limit to your achievement. Pay any price. Bear any burden. Just get your fanny out of that fiberglass chair, go buy yourself an Oxford shirt, a pair of slacks and a clip-on tie (sorry about that :D )and . . .

Victory at the Cost of Sanity in Obama’s Forever War
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  8-28-2009    3
The tired old mentality of the U.S. military, actually any military, is “There is no alternative to victory.” What is considered victory, the complete subjugation of the enemy? What would be considered a victory for the U.S. in Afghanistan? If we think we are going to eradicate terrorism and hatred towards the U.S. then we are sadly mistaken. Victory comes in many different forms. At this point in time I would consider it a victory to get our troops home without any further loss of life, our troops as well as civilians at the hands of America’s war machine, accidental though they may be. It really doesn’t matter who rules Afghanistan or Iraq after we leave, assuming there are plans to ever leave. We need to get back home and divert some of the obscene amount of money being thrown at the pentagon and put it towards domestic purposes, like schools and healthcare. We can defend our borders just fine from within our borders.

35 clues that you listen to Sean Hannity

It’s worth reading through the others for some real gems. That is, unless you actually listen to Sean Hannity. Another favorite: 26) you actually believe that "bush kept us safe"... in spite of 3,017 dead on 911, 5 dead via anthrax WMD attack (on us soil), 1317 us troops dead in afghanistan, 4645 dead us troops in iraq And the hits just keep coming: 27) you believe in exporting democracy... yet insist that conservative officials "remain principled" and refuse to negotiate with (America hating) liberals.

Adventures in being Proselytized: LaRouchePAC
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  8-20-2009    2
LaRouche followers will tell you the only way to learn their ideas is to buy a DVD. The DVD is $25. The conversation you are likely to have with a member of LaRouchePAC on the street is aimed at getting you to either sign up or buy something. They will tell you that the knowledge they have has the potential to prevent a Major Disaster. If they have a solution to save the entire country, isn’t it immoral to charge money for the solution? If you are making the whole thing up, then why are you selling us lies? The most interesting thing about the LaRouchePAC is that despite this immorality and despite the crazy nature of LaRouche’s ideas, he manages to get loads of young people to support him and peddle his weird Nazi-accusations. LaRouchePAC is nothing more than a cult. The outlandish nature of LaRouche’s claims create an us vs. them mentality among his followers. When they face arguments, they turn to other members for support and validation The very core of a cult.

Obama the Uniter and Post-Partisan an Abject Fraud Pt.II

It's like they're channeling Sean Connery in The Untouchables: "They pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way!" Obama actually did say this on June 14, 2008: WSJ: Obama - 'If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun' This is a reckless and dangerous escalation of the conflict. It raises the stakes to where one fractious event could cause things to quickly spiral out of control. It actually increases the chances of such an event occurring, as someone who's been given the finger by his own government figures he has nothing left to lose. And once that Rubicon gets crossed, it may be impossible to go back. A president with real experience and real leadership skills would know better than this. But all Obama has to fall back on is his rabble-rousing, radical Marxist street thug past. Excuse me, I meant "community organizing." http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/president-of-some-of-the-people/

GOP Bigotry and Racism 2009
thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  8-10-2009
The Republican Party has been using mob scenes for some time now... There was the 2000 election when they brought in their thugs to stop the recount. Then again during election times, especially the McCain/Palin rallies. Mob mentality was in vogue during that conservative get-togetherness. Palin, along with her talk radio groupies would tell their base anything, short of go out and lynch the opposition, to rile their followers into a hateful bunch of bigots. Now again, they are at it with their dusting off of the ugly mob crowds and sending them out to descend upon democratic town hall meetings. These people (MOBS) are blatantly hateful and law abiding citizens don't know what to make of their anger... and that's exactly how they win. So many people believe they are just a crazy fringe and laugh them off while they grow just like the movie blob and cover the land with gooey, sticky, nasty hostility... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EhOiP6OaTMs

Below are the words of quitter Sarah Palin about health care reform. She suggests that under an Obama plan, her child and elderly parents might have to go before a "death panel" to see if they should live or die. All she needs to do now is assault someone at a public meeting to fully join the right-wing goons whose fear-mongering mentality she shares.

The republican party has been using mob scenes for sometime now... There was the 2000 election when they brought in their thugs to stop the recount. Then again during election days, especially the McCain/Palin rallies (that really should have been called the divide and scatter gatherings.) Now again, they are at it with their organizing mob crowds to descend upon democratic town hall meetings. These people are hateful and law abiding citizens don't know what to make of these type of tactics... That's how they win. So many people believe they are just a crazy fringe and laugh at them while they grow like a blob (as in the movie THE BLOB)... The main problem with normal people is they don't realize how many stupid crazy people inhabit this country... When one gets wind of what the other crazies are doing they jump out of their boring lives and join the mob band wagon. I hope the DNC does not turn its head on the GOP gang... these nuts are out for blood and are gaining momentum..

Nationalization and shortages go together in the same way that Chicago and corruption go together. Find one, find the other. Naturally Chavez refuses to take the blame for his absurd policies. Neither does Obama. In typical socialist fashion, each blames others. Critics point the finger at price and foreign exchange controls that have slowed investments in expansion and maintenance and eroded productivity. The government blames shortages on speculation by the private sector. In a nutshell this is Obama’s health care plan. Conjure up a problem in the private sector, blame it on speculating capitalists, and use both as a reason to nationalize the entire system. This is not the first time Chavez ran afoul of Economics 101. Some years back he was already sticking his semi-illiterate
