POPSNew Obama Indoctrination Song For School Children: THE OBAMA SONG
We began to write the song after watching the Inauguration. Our school day is packed bell to bell with academics, but were usually able to spend the last five minutes of singing songs as short ELD (English Language Development) activities. Day by day we used this tiny window of time to brainstorm lyrics. As the song took shape, the children became more and more proud of their accomplishment. It soon morphed into a tribute to MLK and others honored for their work towards social justice. By February the song was done. We got requests to come and perform from adjacent classrooms that heard it coming from our room at the end of the day. Their egos boomed. I decided to make it something they'd never forget by producing the video. Nobody forced the children to participate--in fact a few sat it out. When it was finished, they were hoping the President himself would see it and wanted to be able to show it to friends and relatives.

POPS'iTunes university' better than the real thing
Students who downloaded the podcast averaged a C (71 out of 100) on the test - substantially better than those who attended the lecture, who on average mustered only a D (62). But that difference vanished among students who watched the podcast but did not take notes.Students who listened to the podcast one or more times and took notes had an average score of 77, McKinney says. To find out how much students really can learn from podcast lectures alone - mimicking a missed class - McKinney's team presented 64 students with a single lecture on visual perception, from an introductory psychology course. Half of the students attended the class in person and received a printout of the slides from the lecture. The other 32 downloaded a podcast that included audio from the same lecture synchronised with video of the slides. These students also received a printed handout of the material. The researchers told the students they would be tested on the material in a week, and they also asked

POPS"MIT Team Discovers 'Superspeed' Human Brain Programming" more: Their experiments found that the brain adapted input from other regions into the blind spot within seconds. They related this to the idea of "referred sensations", where the brain remaps signals from a missing body part to input from somewhere else that's still attached. Experiments with stroke victims who'd permanently lost part of the vision gave the same results: the bleeding of information from the remaining nerves into the blank region. Of course vision isn't quite the same as a body part, but the idea is the same: how neurons adapt to deal with missing information, and how they can incorporate data from other body parts with amazing speed. Extremely good news for those waiting for the technology to implant extra connectors into their heads. Luke McKinney.

POPSNobel Laureate 'Abducted' by Israeli Navy While most of the activists aboard Spirit were due be deported, several of the activists hold Israeli passports, including Huwaida Arraf. Arraf, a law lecturer, was born in the U.S. to a Palestinian family from within Israel's Green Line, or internationally recognised borders. She is also a U.S. citizen. Deporting her could be problematic, and she may face court for attempting to enter Gaza. Israeli law bans Israeli citizens from entering the coastal territory. Several attempts by IPS to contact Arraf in detention were unsuccessful. FGM reported that it had also been unable to contact activists on their cell phones in detention. Meanwhile, Berlin vows to continue trying to break Israel's siege on Gaza. "It isn't over till the fat lady sings. They took our boat, so we'll get a freighter. Israel has no right to keep 1.5 million residents under siege, to occupy Gaza, and to turn it into one big refugee camp."

POPSHow to Write Aphorisms Delacroix, Eugene (France, 1798-1863) To be a poet at twenty is to be twenty; to be a poet at forty is to be a poet. According to James Geary, editor of the compendium Geary's Guide to the World's Great Aphorists , a truely memorable, quotable aphorism satisfies five laws: It must be brief. It must be definitive. It must be personal — that's the difference between an aphorism and a proverb. It must be philosophical — that's the difference between an aphorism and a platitude, which is not philosophical.... And the fifth law is it must have a twist. And that can be either a linguistic twist or a psychological twist or even a twist in logic that somehow flips the reader into a totally unexpected place. Now you know, so get to work! :)

POPSOne Man's "Dream-Team" Is Another Man's "Cuckoo's Nest" One Flew Over The Cuckoo Nest Redux video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJrBhtnQ42U Don’t forget Al Gore as Secretary of the Navy. He’s already plying the high (and ever higher) seas aboard the BS (Bio-Solar) 1. Why not send him to face down the Somalis pirates? (“You lied! You played upon our fears!!”) Chris Matthews as Press Secretary is also a no-brainer. He’ll need the podium to hide how far up his leg that thrill has gone. The Clintons will make for entertaining bookends on the Supreme Court after Stevens and Ginsberg retire, knowing their seats will be safely handed on to like-minded lefties. (Just remember to serve the coffee in styrofoam—no china.) Also remember, everyone, not to show up the star. You are merely players. It’s Barack’s world, you just live there. POPS(Historical Moment) for Cynthia McKinney I really dig Cynthia McKinney and the way Obama has screwed up with his run to the right, she'll likely get my vote, win or lose. At least she blieves in the same things I do, especially about getting the military out of the worlds hair. Her interview oes on: This is the only party that even has social justice as its core principle. When we say ending the war, we mean all the wars. We need to get all the military out of every country, we need to begin to deal with issues of what peace can look like, how do you sustain that. Obviously, the green party is at the forefront of pushing the environment as a core value, that was innovative then. There should be an end to imprisoning young people, an immediate stop to the death penalty, a livable wage, not a minimum wage. Impeachment for George Bush and them is critical. I think if we don’t hold them accountable as a people, then anybody can do the same shit that they did.
