George's Legacy: Broken Bodies, Broken Countries. pt1
righthand
by righthand  8-1-2007    18
Shocking but not the most shocking. More shocking is that their commander-in-chip is a coward and deserter. He was AWOL more than 30 days during war. Ironic that the warmonger president, never served but killed more Americans than any other since Vietnam.

The Stick Figure Guide to Winning in Iraq
Kore7
by Kore7  12-16-2006    8
As described in the article, the creator of this humorous, optimistic cartoon, a young Captain Travis Patriquin, was killed by an improvised explosive device in Iraq just last Wednesday. His creation has been circulating among the troops and, lately, across the internet. PDF version of the presentation .

US Army: 'We don't want you now. Get lost'
righthand
by righthand  10-4-2007    8
"Jon Soltz, an Iraq war combat veteran who founded the group VoteVets.org, said untreated psychological problems were contributing to the highest military suicide rate in a quarter-century and to growing homelessness among veterans, he said. If such widespread mental problems really existed before people joined the military and saw combat, they would have been uncovered when the recruits were enlisting, Soltz said." This latter point jumps out at me. Did they knowingly recruit those with pre-existing disorders. The army's attitude appears to be: "We didn't break you, you were already broken. You're not our responsibility."

General Sanchez Blasts Bush's Iraq Nightmare
cptenaud
by cptenaud  10-12-2007    28
Sanchez continues, There is nothing going on today in Washington that would give us hope. Our commanders on the ground will continue to make progress and provide time for the development of a grand strategy. That will be wasted effort as we have seen repeatedly since 2003. In the meantime, our soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines will continue to die. Military leaders, one after another are condemning this adminstration and war. Yet the ego-maniacal war criminal in the White House continues to send Americans to their death for no other reason than to enrich his war profiteer buddies.

Halliburton Provided Contaminated Water to Soldiers
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  3-2-2007    2
Quote from among the comments to the video: I served in Iraq at a base whose water was provided for by KBR. I can personally say that myself, and many of the other Marines in my company, had, and for some people, still have rashes and skin conditions of unknown origin. This is after 3 years of having it. Many of my friends have gone to doctors (both civilian and VA), and none of them have any idea what it is or how to treat it. This isn't a joke.

Wounded-troops tally not even close to reality
cptenaud
by cptenaud  11-23-2007    2
Apparently, the discrepancy comes as a result of time. Troops whose wounds are discovered after they return home are not added to the official tally. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.), founder of the Congressional Brain Injury Task Force, said the total number of Americans who may have suffered head injuries in combat maybe total as many as 150,000 — about 10% of the 1.5 million troops have served in Iraq “I am wary that the number of brain-injured troops far exceeds the total number reported injured,” he says.

Rush's $2 Million Dollar Donation But Nobody Cares
merrie
by merrie  11-15-2007
"We’ve gotten donations in the million-dollar range before, but this is by far the biggest,” James Kallstrom, chairman and co-founder of the 12-year-old charity, said yesterday in a telephone interview. The foundation has awarded more than $27 million in scholarships to children of slain troops and law enforcement officers, Kallstrom said, as well as support money for disabled veterans and their families.”

Reid Tries to Take Credit for LetterAuction!!
davboz
by davboz   10-19-2007    8
Sounding as if it was HIS idea, this little boy in an old man's body talks about how he and the Clear Channel boss ("Mark Mays and I")never thought the letter would generate such high amount and volume of bids($ 2,100,000). He speaks as if the fact that it is HIS letter with the signatures of 41 Democrats on it,("We were short on time or WE would have gotten more names on it") is the reason why people are bidding on it. Harry!! Your attempts to HORN IN, while conceding backhand kudos to Rush for helping out, are going to taint the whole project and undermine the value of the letter, you self-important over-inflated little rag doll. The value of the letter is in the semi-facetious yet realistic view of your snitty little attempts to suppress speech and your merit-less, misguided attacks.

Blacks To The Military: "Hell No, We Won't Go!"
DizzyDezzi
by DizzyDezzi  6-25-2007    4
Most African-Americans do not support the war in Iraq. Even when young black people want to join, the ask their families before signing on the dotted line. Their families are convincing them that they have other options. My own first-born is old enough to join and his step-father is in the Army and has been to Iraq 2x. We are both encouraging him to stay out of the military.

Army Times: "Time for Rumsfeld to go"
Kore7
by Kore7  11-3-2006    5
Rumsfeld has lost credibility with the uniformed leadership, with the troops, with Congress and with the public at large. His strategy has failed, and his ability to lead is compromised. And although the blame for our failures in Iraq rests with the secretary, it will be the troops who bear its brunt.
