POPSNow it's "Cool America" "I think that the election of Senator Obama would send an extraordinary signal to the rest of the world," the former head of Britain's Conservative Party said, describing an Obama victory as "the most powerful declaration of what America at its best has stood for - the most globalized country in the world - because America is made up of the rest of the world."

POPSGreen is the new red white and blue We in America talk like we’re already “the greenest generation,” But here’s the really inconvenient truth: We have not even begun to be serious about the costs, the effort and the scale of change that will be required to shift our country, and eventually the world, to a largely emissions-free energy infrastructure over the next 50 years. Thomas L. Friedman is a columnist for The New York Times specializing in foreign affairs. a bit long article but worth read.

POPSKiarostami - the godfather of Iranian cinema Looking at Tazieh clearly invites westerners to step into Iranians' shoes. "Of course, I feel pain when I see that my country is considered evil," he says. "So in all my films, my wish is to give a kinder and a warmer image of human beings and of my country. Every morning, when I wake up, I have to say hello to my neighbours. And this is what I like to show in my films: friendship, love between people".

POPSFatwa forbids PA Muslims to emigrate Very sad. Not only are these people subjected to a constant barrage of conflict, economic poverty, etc. (because their authorities refuse to live in peace with Israel), now they are being forced to *stay* there. They are being used as pawns. Hello! There's a reason why they want to leave.

POPSIs this the America we want to be to the rest of the World? I have lived abroad for a very long time, and consider myself a global citizen, not just tied to one country. And having been born in the U.S.A. it makes me sad to see that people, my friends in other countries think that Americans are a violent lot. Can Americans not see why? Gun crime has spiraled out of control and it only takes living outside of the country to gain perspective. We should not be living in fear of each other. We should not have to have metal detectors in our schools. We should not have to accept that our society has changed this way. This boy should have been helped as all of them should have been helped BEFORE we get to this point. We need to look out for each other each day of our lives.

POPSWas the 2004 Election stolen? (by Robert F. Kennedy) Kind-of late to the party, but an intersting article, not that anything would ever be done about such things even if true in the U.S. We all know the U.S. is THE basition of democracy and voter fraud would never happen there. (only mild sarcasm intended) ;)

POPSObama's Foreign Funders Of course, its against the law for him to accept money from non-US citizens, but that wouldn't stop the Messiah, would it?

POPSGap years - a waste of time? I took a year out after graduating and worked...given my circumstances, it wouldn't have made a difference with what I'm making now had I not taken the gap year....

POPSGreat Information for Females in combat roles
this might offend some people, but there are reasons why women can not be in a combative role, supportive roles yes, but not directly in combat situations. Just look at the army and Jessica Lynch....Then the tragic case of Pat Tillman, does our country or our troops need anymore of that kind of that "bad press"? We need to support the real military men and women that are really doing the right things abroad and in country. Most of the time, Marines like the female corpsman because it gives them a chance to take things "slower" as one could say... Later in the article, it states she was the corpsman support for combat missions. There isn't the question of if she can do it or not, its a statement of physical capabilities proved by science and simple biology. Don't misunderstand this either, I have tremendous respect for Corpsman, if it wasn't for them, many Marines would not have a chance. POPSProphecy of retribution No this can't be true. The Jews of today try to shove down our throats that there wasn't anyone living in Palestine before the Jews arrived and everyone knows the chosen people do not lie.

POPSCuba lifts ban on home computers From the website: The government says it is unable to connect to the giant undersea fibre-optic cables because of the US trade embargo. All online connections today are via satellite which has limited bandwidth and is expensive to use. Cuba's anti-American ally, Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez, is laying a new cable under the Caribbean. It remains unclear whether, once the connection is completed, the authorities will then allow unrestricted access to the world wide web.

POPSThe Return of the Robber Barons Another deceit is the measure called “core inflation.” This measure of inflation excludes food and energy, two large components of the average family’s budget. Wall Street and corporations and, therefore, the media emphasize core inflation, because it holds down cost of living increases and interest rates. In the second quarter of this year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI), a more complete measure of inflation, increased at an annual rate of 5.2 per cent compared to 2.3 per cent for core inflation. An examination of how inflation is measured quickly reveals the games played to deceive the American people. Housing prices are not in the index. Instead, the rental rate of housing is used as a proxy for housing prices. More games are played with the goods and services whose prices comprise the weighted market basket used to estimate inflation. If beef prices rise, for example, the index shifts toward lower priced chicken.
