POPSWhat It Feels Like To Be A Gay Woman? "The answer might be to stop thinking so rigidly about sexuality. Regardless of whether you believe that you might be a teeny bit attracted to men yourself, or whether the idea appalls your sense of what it is to be a lesbian."

POPSA History Lesson "Last month the Chicago Board of Education dropped plans to open the city's first public high school for gay and lesbian students after Mayor Richard M. Daley questioned whether it would isolate children. But Hannah Devane, 17, a student at Harvey Milk, said mainstream schools failed her. She felt alienated and became so depressed, Devane said, she didn't get out of bed in the mornings. She stopped attending classes. When Devane was 13, she heard about the Harvey Milk school in the news and decided to ask her counselor to help her transfer. "Coming here changed my life," she said. "Now, I'm an A student."

POPSHomophobia . . . Let's End It I am the woman who was cursed by others because I dared hold another woman's hand when I thought we were alone. If you believe this is wrong as I do, then let's all do our parts to speak out and end it.

POPSForty-Eight Years Of Indoctrination "Probably the last thing I ever expected to hear my daughter say was "I'm a lesbian." Marcie is tall, slim, very feminine-looking, with long, wavy blond hair. Makeup and clothes are important to her; she's had boyfriends since the day she was in third grade when she came home and announced that she was in love. She is anything but what I thought of as a "dyke." They had a right to their own lifestyle--just don't make me a witness to it. Maybe they weren't all "weirdos"--but just keep them out of my face. After a lifetime of learning that homosexuality was "perverted," "weird," "unnatural," "sick," against all that God or anyone else prescribed, was I too set in my beliefs, too brainwashed to ever--honestly, sincerely, to the core of my being--accept the concept? At 48 years of age, I was about to find out."

POPSHow Homophobia Hurts Us All It hurts me that my own Mother wouldn't love me if she knew I was bisexual, but it also helps me to know that through it all some people can love me for who I am. My husband, my youngest daughter, my very best friends, and the support at CM.

POPSThe Myth Of Perfect Lesbian Sex "If lesbian sex really is better than straight sex, it's not because lesbians "know what women want." It's because lesbians take the time to learn what their lovers, specifically, want. If you're going to be a good lover -- whether you're having sex with women or men, whether you yourself are a woman or a man -- a little Sexual Anatomy 101 should definitely be on the agenda. There is no universal "what women want." But if you really want to know what women want, I suggest you ask the one you're in bed with. Or the one you have bent over the kitchen table. Tied to the doorframe. Standing over you with a whip in her hand. On the floor with your face between her legs. I'm not particular. :) "

POPSAn Open Letter "Every day, LGBT Americans face discrimination and are being denied their constitutional rights. There is no one in public life who could, and based on your stated principles and promises should, do more to move America forward toward becoming a country in which LGBT people are respected and treated as fully equal under our Constitution and laws. We ask for your leadership and voice. When you lead, we will back you with every bit of heart and determination we can muster."

POPSWhat does it mean to be an American? This 10-year-old boy gets it More: After asking his parents whether it was against the law not to stand for the pledge, Will decided to do something. On Monday, Oct. 5, when the other kids in his class stood up to recite the pledge of allegiance, he remained sitting down…Each day, the substitute got a little more cross with him. On Thursday, it finally came to a head… Will was sent to the office… At the end of our interview, I ask young Will a question that might be a civics test nightmare for your average 10-year-old. Will's answer, though, is good enough — simple enough, true enough — to give me a little rush of goose pimples. What does being an American mean? “Freedom of speech,” Will says, without even stopping to think. “The freedom to disagree. That's what I think pretty much being an American represents.” Somewhere, Thomas Jefferson smiles.

POPSMaine Puritans Deny Rights The Religious Right is alive and well in Maine. At least for 53% of the population. Distaste for anyone who doesn't share their sexual inclinations combined with a healthy dose of religiously fueled hate mongering have combined to deny rights to the LBGT community in Maine. Congratulations citizens of Maine. You've won in your quest to deny basic rights to a sizable portion of your population and should be proud that you've turned them into second class citizens.

POPSAmerican Evangelicals Role In Uganda Effort To ‘Wipe Out’ Gays This barbaric legislation stifles free speech by threatening anyone who is accused of “promoting” homosexuality with five to seven year prison sentences. Snitching on gay friends and family members is strongly encouraged because “failure to disclose the ‘offence’ within 24 hours of knowledge makes somebody liable to a fine or imprisonment of up to three years.” Sadly, this witch-hunt has the blood stained fingerprints of leading American evangelicals. The Fellowship, (aka The Family) one of America’s most powerful and secretive fundamentalist organization’s, converted Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni (pictured top) to its anti-gay brand of Christianity, which is the “intellectual” impetus behind the anti-gay crackdown. The clandestine organization’s leader, Doug Coe, calls Museveni The Fellowship’s “key man” in Africa. Jeff Sharlet, author of “The Family”, writes of the African strongman’s conversion:

POPSSF Kook Wants to Force "Gay" Radio to Stay on the Air one good thing about the Democrat Communist People's Republic of San Francisco - they are all in one place where we can keep an eye on them. Just imagine the outrage if they had switched to a radio format people actually listen to - Rush and Sean and Glenn.

POPSThe Asshole Behind Prop 8: The Bishop of Oakland, CA We know all this because as homosexuals and their supporters were wondering how this all came about, Cordileone gloated about his work in an interview with an obscure Catholic radio network. He bragged about how gay men and lesbians never saw him coming & called gay marriage a Satanic plot by "the Evil One" to destroy morality in the modern world. Now, Cordileone's work has been rewarded, and the Vatican has made him the most important religious figure in the East Bay. Alameda County is one of the most liberal and gay-friendly parts of the world; it arguably has the most lesbian residents in the United States, & voters here rejected Proposition 8 by almost 62 percent. & the man who leads some 400,000 Catholics from his new Lake Merritt cathedral... just got done taking the right to marry from every gay man and woman in the East Bay. Dear Bishop Sal: fuck you. Quite sincerely, A married, het Oaklander.
