Washington POST left-handed compliment.

“One explanation may be that traditional news outlets like The Post simply don't pay sufficient attention to conservative media or viewpoint,” Alexander writes.

Barney Frank Wants Cabinet Post
merrie
by merrie  9-7-2009    2
Frank talks about how he struggled as a gay man growing up in blue-collar Bayonne, N.J. He dated women throughout high school and college, but knew he was gay at 13. Still, he delayed revealing his sexuality until he had established a foothold in the House. In the 501-page tome " to be released later this month " Frank is described by people who know him well as a masterful legislator, an impatient boss, and “socially handicapped.” One of the most riveting parts of the book is Frank’s recollection of his ethics scandal, when he paid a male prostitute for sex. Various media outlets called for Frank to resign, but he persevered by admitting his mistakes and asking the ethics committee to investigate him in 1989. Many Republicans, including then-Rep. Larry Craig (Idaho), called for serious sanctions against Frank, who was ultimately reprimanded by the House, 408-18. (California Democratic Reps. Nancy Pelosi and Henry Waxman both voted against the measure.)

"Left" out at catcher
dgreplay
by dgreplay  8-16-2009
Remarkable, i had no idea this was the case for left handed catchers. And if you think baseball has something against lefty infielders too, you'd be right... "Not one left-handed thrower has played an inning at shortstop in the majors in 100 years. As for second base, there have been only three since World War II" Wow. Talk about inside baseball...this stuff is the baseball equivalent of molecular biology

Another interesting Blog Site I found while perusing the Net.. The "Paul Is Dead" rumors go all the way back to the latter 60's and for a while was a huge phenomenon focusing around the "demise" of the left-handed Beetle. Some of the clues and hints that the Beetle's were supposedly sending in their album art and song lyrics are still quoted today...

How To Spot A Dictatorship
merrie
by merrie  3-22-2009    2
Unfortunately, the libertarian "bloc" in the country tends to be a bit too small for either of the two major parties to fight over - kind of like expending energy on wooing left handed Eskimo pipe-welders. However, last year, with many libertarians opposing key parts of the Patriot Act, the growth in government spending, and the war in Iraq, the left and the Democratic Party made a bid to woo libertarians over to the Kerry camp. I would have found this argument more compelling had the left proven themselves to be a bit more consistent supporters of democracy and individual rights around the world. Many on the left bent themselves into pretzels supporting blatant totalitarians in hopes of seeing George Bush fail. Other leftists continue to be strong Marxists, supporting socialist regimes with a blind eye towards their human rights records.

Leonardo Da Vinci's 10 Best Ideas

“The noblest pleasure is the joy of understanding.” “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” “Where there is shouting, there is no true knowledge.” “I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.” “I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do.” “There are three classes of people: those who see. Those who see when they are shown. Those who do not see.” “Time stays long enough for anyone who will use it.” “Why does the eye see a thing more clearly in dreams than the imagination when awake?” “Why does the eye see a thing more clearly in dreams than the imagination when awake?” “The greatest deception men suffer is from their own opinions.” Leonardo da Vinci quotes http://thinkexist.com/quotes/leonardo_da_vinci/

A Requiem for the word
willhelm
by willhelm  2-12-2009
The reasoning here is basically as follows. While individual whites may be (at least) consciously filled with nothing but good will toward blacks (and other minorities), the very institutions of which American life is constituted and within the framework of which its citizens' worldview(s) have been formed are profoundly "racist." So, "racism," then, requires neither hatred nor a willingness to discriminate nor a conscious belief in the innate inferiority of other races. The reasoning here is basically as follows. The Left-Handed Advantages and Disadvantages
AScomputer
by AScomputer  2-18-2009
Only about 5% to 30% of people in the world are left-handed. Then again, as many lefties might point out, being left-handed can also offer intellectual prowess. Tests conducted by Alan Searleman from St Lawrence University in New York found there were more left-handed people with IQs over 140 than right-handed people. Famous left-handed thinkers in history from Albert Einstein to Isaac Newton to Benjamin Franklin seem to underline the point.

The Sling Shot Man
blueridge
by blueridge  1-31-2009
Amazing skill. The more you watch the better it gets. Maybe some thought the Bible exaggerates when it records... Among all this people were seven hundred chosen men left-handed; every one could sling stones at a hair breadth, and not miss. --Judges 20:16 This old country boy proves that skill is still possible. He also appears to be left handed (he draws the sling with the left hand).

Mirror-Image Clues to Life's Origins
Jorjor
by Jorjor  10-8-2008
From the source: The meteorites did this by providing building blocks with a slight preponderance of that handedness (known scientifically as chirality) that makes life possible. "We know that all amino acids start mirror-image the same, but in living things they have this handedness," said Ronald Breslow, a Columbia University researcher who published recently on the topic. "This change doesn't happen spontaneously, and we've never been able to reproduce it in the laboratory" under conditions similar to early Earth. "The answer to where it comes from looks increasingly like meteorites," he added, "from extraterrestrial bodies falling to Earth. It's a complex story, but we're beginning to understand it better."

Gipsy Kings
carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  7-14-2008    4
But they began playing rumba flamenca because "we liked to watch pretty girls dance," said Nicolas. Latin American beats had been joined with flamenco by gitanos since at least the 1950s, mixing complex strumming with rhythmic, percussive tapping on their guitars' tops. The new Reyes generation — soon to meet and join up with three guitar-playing brothers from the Baliardo family — began creating more pop-oriented songs. They played at roma parties and at street corners until they got their chance to record under the group's new name, Gipsy Kings. Sharp-eyed individuals might have noted that all the left-handed members of the group play guitars strung upside-down; this is usually as a result of the individuals' not having their own guitars when growing-up. Borrowing and playing a right-hander's the wrong way up was the only way to learn.
