POPSObama's Staff Slips Up With Muslim Outreach Mr. LaBolt said campaign workers' efforts are aimed at acquaint Muslim voters with Sen. Obama's positions and to work on voter turnout. "We have a whole faith outreach effort that includes interacting with mosque leaders," he said. Nihad Awad, executive director of CAIR, also attended the session, as did the group's legislative director. The government named CAIR an unindicted coconspirator in the Justice Department's racketeering prosecution last year of alleged Hamas fund-raisers. CAIR said the designation was unjustified; the case ended in a mistrial, but is being brought again by the government. Mr. Awad declined to comment. Mr. Bray didn't respond to a request for comment. The Obama campaign said it couldn't comment on Mr. Asbahi's attendance at the session.

POPSMoscow calls for anti-U.S. alliance While Russia has insisted it was not intending to supplant NATO, Mr Medvedev made it clear that the US-dominated alliance was partly responsible for the war in the Caucasus by its failure to rein in Georgian "aggression". This is the result of the U.S. throwing its weight around the world for far too long. It is human nature that if one person is constantly directing policy onto everyone else then that person is going to be knocked down for being perceived as a bully. The time has come for the U.S. to relax its role as self appointed world police and let other nations handle their own affairs or we will be “uninvited to the party”. Hopefully, future U.S. presidents will bury this old school ‘might is right’ mentality that Bush/Cheney revitalized when they took office.

POPSRoyal Dutch Shell to go to Trail for Complicity in Torture and Murder of Nigerian Protesters Nigeria has been chief among Shell’s assets for many years. Critics charge that with the aim of production at any cost, regardless of the damage to the surrounding people and land, Shell disrupted thousands of lives and wreaked havoc on the environment. In the early 1990’s, the people of Nigeria began to protest. Shell made payments and provided arms to security forces that they knew to be abusive to local communities. The military government violently repressed the demonstrations and arrested and bribed witnesses. Nine leaders of the demonstrations were murdered, including the aforementioned well-known activist and writer, Ken Saro-Wiwa.

POPSBarrack's Wife: Michelle Obama Plays It Cool.
These people, this campaign, is incredible. I have never seen nor could even have imagined such consistent brillance. The more common reaction would be to toss insults back at McCain and instead she talks about respecting them and how Obama is going to need them! One of Obama's clever message (and I believe it's also sincere) is how Democrats, Republicans and Independents have to work together (appealing to them all), and how there is no 'Red States,' of America, nor 'Blue States,' of America -- but the United States of America (appealing to us all). Even direct enemies are invited in and it is another (I believe sincere) brilliant thing: It disarms the 'enemy,' and is a core of his political philosophy: Work Together: Consensus This has actually worked to soften significant Catholic opposition (due to the abortion issue; most difficult). (/About 56% Catholic opposition would lose the election). How? -- Allow abortions (regrettably) but work to build families; do adapti

POPSTaliban severs ties with al Qaeda - seeks peace No matter how CNN spins this - we have slaughtered the Taliban until their forces and leadership are depleted, and they have lost the will to fight. This is what is known as victory. It is the same sort of victory we are experiencing in Iraq. The democrats and the mainstream media are so unfamiliar with the concept of "victory" they can't recognize it. It is the kind of victory liberal democrats would never achieve, because it takes courage, foresight, and patient fortitude - - all qualities they lack. I believe only President Bush was capable of taking the war to the enemy, and seeing it through. History will be very good to him.

POPSTed Turner Launches New Sustainable Tourism Strategy What exactly is sustainable tourism? While many have tried to clarify the concept, it often seems like a collection of vague ideals. But today Ted Turner and a newly founded coalition of 27 organizations have put forth specific criteria. It includes jobs for locals, including in management positions; support for local entrepreneurs; and protection of important archeological, historical, spiritual and cultural sites. Do you think these guidelines will help protect destinations and the people who live there?

"But he's still the undisciplined, spoiled brat that he was when he went in."

POPS Americans Believe Entrepreneurs Will Revive Economy Because they understand the role of entrepreneurs as a creator of jobs, Americans are looking to business leaders instead of government, by a two-to-one margin, to lead the way out of the economic mess. A majority of people (56 percent) trust small business owners to guide the economy, compared with only 14 percent who trust members of Congress. While, more than 60 percent of people surveyed support the federal government increasing its regulation of the market, more than a third think Congress is in danger of creating too much regulation as it reacts to this crisis. "History has repeatedly demonstrated that new companies and entrepreneurship are the way to bolster a flagging economy. The American people understand this," Schramm said.

POPSEuropean Big Four Rule Out Joint Rescue Action
The summit called for greater flexibility in accounting rules by the end of October, in line with US practices. This would be done by giving European banks "the same rules to reclassify financial instruments from the trading book to the banking book, including those already held or issued". This is a reference to a rarely used rule in the US that allows banks to record assets at an amortised cost, rather than at its current market value. This would be a way of circumventing the existing "mark-to-market" accounting rules, which critics say have contributed to a downward spiral of asset prices *Allow banks to apply mark-to-market accounting rules for assets more flexibly in line with US practices *European Commission to draw up EU rules aligning bank deposit guarantee schemes *Establish task forces to co-ordinate *Establish task forces to co-ordinate with the US authorities and others during crises *Supervisors to draw up codes of conduct on pay and risk-taking

POPSTurkish warplanes bomb Kurd bases in northern Iraq There goes the Northern Front: "But on the streets of Turkey, public anger has mounted with each funeral held for the slain soldiers. The anger has turned toward Turkish leaders as well. On Sunday, mourners booed Gul at a funeral in the western city of Eskisehir, and they booed Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan at another funeral in Armutlu village, near the capital."
