(By the way, that's former President Bush desecrating a flag in that photo). This morning, in the neighborhood park where there was a fireworks display last night, dozens of rumpled flags were everywhere - on the ground, in trash cans, along with flag-imprinted paper plates, napkins and other such stuff. Fortunately for the armchair patriots and chickenhawk generals, there are no criminal penalties associated with Title 4 USC1. If congress were to enact some stiff fines for violations, the federal defecit would disappear overnight. Its not much of a step for them to include weapons and bio-metric scanners in the domestic ones. The Supreme Court and the attorney general ordered Zelaya’s arrest for disobeying several court orders compelling him to obey the Constitution. He was detained and taken to Costa Rica. Why? Congress needed time to convene and remove him from office. With him inside the country that would have been impossible. This decision was taken by the 123 (of the 128) members of Congress present that day. Don’t believe the coup myth. The Honduran military acted entirely within the bounds of the Constitution. The military gained nothing but the respect of the nation by its actions. I am extremely proud of my compatriots. Finally, we have decided to stand up and become a country of laws, not men. From now on, here in Honduras, no one will be above the law

Several attempts by IPS to contact Arraf in detention were unsuccessful. FGM reported that it had also been unable to contact activists on their cell phones in detention. Meanwhile, Berlin vows to continue trying to break Israel's siege on Gaza. "It isn't over till the fat lady sings. They took our boat, so we'll get a freighter. Israel has no right to keep 1.5 million residents under siege, to occupy Gaza, and to turn it into one big refugee camp."

Moreover, the report revealed, Amtrak regularly retained outside law firms shielded from IG reach. In another case, Amtrak's Law Department appeared to meddle in an inspector general investigation of an outside financial adviser suspected of inflating fees. The consultant ran to the Law Department when the IG demanded documents, and the Law Department repudiated the IG's instructions on complying with a subpoena. These interventions (ongoing since 2007) have "systematically violated the letter and spirit of the Inspector General Act," according to Grassley.
