Gray Wolf Hunt Begins in Idaho
JackieDel
by JackieDel  9-2-2009    1
Northern Idaho Wolf Alliance representative Stephen Augustine said, "We fear that under the guise of wolf management, what's about to happen is a wolf massacre." "It is really astonishing that you could have an animal on the endangered species list at one point, and a bare five months later they're being hunted," said Augustine. "To my knowledge there isn't another animal that has had this happen to them."

A Degree in English
carrerinyes
by carrerinyes  5-17-2009    1
Roman writers composed some of the world’s most thrilling verse and were masters of historiography, oratory and philosophy. But diploma Latin is some of the most depressing and long-winded legalese you can find. Hiding behind the lovely calligraphy are maddening syntax and appalling neologisms. How do you say the name of every college town in Latin? You shouldn’t have to. (Nor should you have to struggle to read the text in the illustration that accompanies this piece, so let me help you out. It says: “I can’t understand this either.”)

Is being an expert a key to good leadership?
egoldstein
by egoldstein  8-20-2009    2
Clipped this from an interesting article that uses General Electric as an example of a company that doesn't prioritize expertise or understanding of how things work or how they're made in or to manage their development. From my personal experience with Clipmarks and Amplify i can definitely say that i wish i had greater knowledge of how things work technically and have often felt that i would help us make better decisions if i did. That said, i also think my lack of knowledge about how things work has allowed me to have an open mind about things, because i'm not burdened with the knowledge of how difficult things may be.

An Opinion I Agree With....The USA
Ilsadago1
by Ilsadago1  5-23-2009    1
The internet needs to remain a place of open knowledge, free speech and uncensored information. Most of the world has some form of censorship imposed on it's citizens. In the US, the MSM feeds us what they think we 'need to know' (hence the over-coverage of Brittney and Lindsey) and puts their own spin on the important stories (such as Gitmo). The internet allows us to sort, digest, and learn and form our own opinions. If a body, like the UN, takes control of domain naming, etc... we may lose that ability. As a citizen of a free country, I'm not willing to give up my rights to appease countries that don't respect them.

Can we learn to love uncertainty?

It is perhaps for that reason that the stories of those who discovered these uncertainties have been largely overlooked. This is why I made Dangerous Knowledge for BBC television: to champion the incomplete, the uncomputable and the uncertain."

VMware Player:Run iso files before installation
pokkets
by pokkets  1-26-2008    2
I put the url of a program that can check iso files on a hard disk in comments and another with VMplayer OS images. The clip might make more sense then I've often wondered how to check an Operating System before installing it, or even burning an iso file onto a Disk. One the main problems apart from the space, has been, after installing another operating system, in a dual boot, it can mess up the boot files of systems already loaded, if it is removed. This player allows booting of another system, or the running of an Appliance in another window without having to reboot, or partition the disks. This could have saved me a lot of trouble over the last month - at least I know more about disk partitions and boot files. They suggest 1GB of free space to give an internally booted system room. It is available for Windows, and Linux, and the site also has a range of other Virtual Appliances, both free, and commercial, is Open Source, and has a knowledge base, community, and Self-Help Support.
