POPSrecipe: home-made It's-Its Meet any Bay Area native, and they'll go glassy-eyed talking about their favorite childhood treat, the It's-It ice cream sandwich. (Those of us from other states don't quite get the hype, but we'll play along.) Yes, well, this Bay Area kid thinks the reason you don't get it is that the quality has gone downhill over the past few decades. (The chocolate coating didn't used to be "waxy", for one thing. Harrumph.) So if your only experience with It's-Its is since, say, 2000, it will of course be somewhat disappointing.

POPSBeef Stew From the site: Beef stew is total comfort food for me. When I was a kid, my mom would cook stew all day in the crock-pot and we would eat it with plain bread and butter. This is one of those recipes that I really love because it's very easy to make, it reminds me of my childhood and it makes the house smell so good. I love to cook the meat, onion, garlic, tomatoes and broth in the oven for about 4-5 hours then add the fresh vegetables and cook for another hour on the stove top. I serve with a tossed salad and fresh bread with butter. This is my daughters very favorite dinner and is a huge hit in our house - especially on cold and rainy days.

POPSPumpkin Roll with Cheese Filling Recipe My friend’s daughter Yenene likes this Pumpkin Roll with Cheese Filling recipe. Though she is 16 years old, but she has mastered the cooking technique of this dish. Whenever there is a gathering of my family and my friends, she definitely cooks this dish. Our children also enjoy this dish. You should try this Pumpkin Roll with Cheese Filling recipe.

POPSGlogg A favorite recipe in Scandinavia. I remember mom making glogg when I was a kid. It always smelled so good, but was a no-no for us kids. It turns out that you can make a non-alc version either by boiling off the alcohol or starting with juice instead of wine. According to Apartment Therapy , it's served with gingerbread and blue cheese. That sounds really good. This recipe from The World Wide Gourmet doesn't call for oranges, which is good news. AT also recommends a visit to Ikea for some more ideas in a Swedish flavor. I may have to do that this year.

POPSMagical Party Recipes I have seen different versions of many of these recipes, this site just presents them the best. Go to site for complete recipe, I can only clip so much. There is also a kid friendly butterbeer recipe here: http://homecooking.about.com/od/dessertrecipes/r/bldes188.htm I just thought these were a unique idea for the upcoming holiday party season.

POPSDate-Nut Slices Nutrition for 1 slice (based on 12 slices): 91cal, 4.4g fat, 0mg cholesterol, 2mg sodium, 12.6g carbs, 1.9g fiber, 9.6g sugar, 2.4g protein These were a big hit with the adults, but not so much with the kids. Well, my kid at least didn't like the cardamom in them, but that just left more for us adults! This recipe doesn't make a lot--probably about 12 slices. Supposedly you can store these in the freezer for a quick treat, but I wouldn't know; they were all gone pretty fast when I served them.)
