POPSAn Open Letter to President Obama About the Republicans (From a Former Republican) The Religious Right supply the kind of people who at McCain and Palin rallies were yelling things such as "kill him" about you. That's the constituency to which your hand was extended when looking for compromise on your financial bailout bill. There's only one thing that makes sense for you now. Mr. President, you need to forget a bipartisan approach and get on with the business of governing by winning each battle. You will never be able to work with the Republicans because they hate you. Believe me, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are the norm not the exception. James Dobson and the rest are praying for you to fail. The neoconservatives are gnashing their teeth and waiting for you to "sell out Israel" or "show weakness" in Afghanistan, whatever, so they can declare you a traitor.

POPSObama's Minister Committed "Treason" But When My Father Said the Same Thing He Was a Republican Hero My dad's books denouncing America and comparing the USA to Hitler are still best sellers in the "respectable" evangelical community and he's still hailed as a prophet by many Republican leaders. When Mike Huckabee was recently asked by Katie Couric to name one book he'd take with him to a desert island, besides the Bible, he named Dad's Whatever Happened to the Human Race? a book where Dad also compared America to Hitler's Germany. We Republican agitators of the mid 1970s to the late 1980s were genuinely anti-American in the same spirit that later Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson (both followers of my father) were anti-American when they said God had removed his blessing from America on 9/11, because America accepted gays. Falwell and Robertson recanted but we never did.

POPSGays Burning Down California!! Wow. I had know idea us gays have so much power in this world. I thought it was hot shit when Falwell and Robertson blamed us for the attacks on 9/11, but now we're also responsible for the wild fires in California. Gays everywhere! It is time we claim our true power and take over this world which is rightly ours!!!

POPSAmerica's Armageddonites Push for More War
THIS IS REAL FOLKS! THESE PEOPLE ARE REALLY OUT THERE! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Based on this Biblical interpretation, the Armageddonites vehemently argue that America must protect Israel and encourage its settlements on the West Bank in order to help God fulfill His plans. The return of Jews to Palestine is central to the prophetic vision of the Armageddonites, who see it as a critical step toward the final battle, Armageddon, and the victory of the righteous over Satan's minions. There are a couple internal inconsistencies with this prophecy, such as the presence of Christians already living in the Holy Land and the role of Jews in the final dispensation. In the first case, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and other Religious Right leaders tried to pretend that Christians already in the Holy Land simply didn't exist. As for Jews, they needed to become "born again" Christians to avoid God's wrath (or, according to some Armageddonites, a separate Jewish covenant with God will gain them a se

POPSMore Christian Right Lies Newt spews forth lies of Christian persecution to Liberty U graduates. And after being indoctrinated for 4 years they apparently eat it up. Gullibility, it seems, is much easier to teach than rational thought.

POPSI Report You Decide AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals. -- Jerry Falwell (attributed: source unknown) The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country. -- Rev Jerry Falwell, Sermon, July 4, 1976 The Jews are returning to their land of unbelief. They are spiritually blind and desperately in need of their Messiah and Savior. -- Jerry Falwell, Listen, America! Billy Graham is the chief servant of Satan. -- Rev Jerry Falwell (attributed: source unknown) The ACLU is to Christians what the American Nazi party is to Jews. -- Rev Jerry Falwell (attributed: source unknown) AIDS is the wrath of a just God against homosexuals. To oppose it would be like an Israelite jumping in the Red Sea to save one of Pharoah's chariotters. -- Rev Jerry Falwell (attributed: source unknown)

POPSStrap on Your Sidearms Boys - It's Wartime Again The time is here! Dig those trenches; arm the battlements; the heathens are at the gates!!!! This is one "War" I find great amusement with. Watching fools act out their paranoid fantasies has great entertainment value.

POPSFaith-Based Fraud His place on the cable shows will be amply filled by Al Sharpton: another person who can get away with anything under the rubric of Reverend. It's a shame that there is no hell for Falwell to go to, and it's extraordinary that not even such a scandalous career is enough to shake our dumb addiction to the "faith-based."

POPSThe 10 Biggest Religion Stories
#4 | The Pope and Latin Mass Benedict XVI relieves priests of having to get their bishop’s permission to celebrate mass in old-school Latin. To many, it is an unwelcome return of church élitism. Others sink happily back into it. #5 | The Slow-Motion Episcopal/Anglican Train Wreck The Episcopal Bishops’ meeting in New Orleans fails to stem the ongoing defection of conservatives over the church’s positions on gays, or the likelihood of a worldwide Anglican split over the same issue. #6 | Green Evangelicals Global warming, along with poverty and torture, have become hot issues to a maturing conservative Christian movement. #7 | The Roar of Atheist Books There may or may not be more atheists, but there are more atheist authors--and readers want to give them a hearing. #8 | Another Blow to a Megachurch A year after Ted Haggard resigned as pastor of Colorado’s New Life Church--having admitted to “immorality” involving a gay escort--a gunman kills two congregants in

POPSThe Devil & Reverend Falwell I offer the late Reverand Falwell the best eulogy I can craft for him: He was a great man, who accomplished much. He opposed civil-rights. He opposed gay rights. He opposed women's rights. He opposed all independent political thought beyond his own opinions. He united thousands of otherwise well meaning Americans behind an agenda of hate and intolerance. He wanted to destroy anything that was different, and pushed our government from defending liberty into attacking it. I have seen people enobled by the purity of their faith, but he was not one of them. He became as grotesque and monstrous as the venomous ideas he believed in. The greatest tragedy is that he died without ever using his power and influence for the good of mankind, and instead expended that precious capital on petty politics.

POPSFalwell's Flub - Helped Pagan Proselytizing in Public Schools Jerry Falwell's organization forced a public school in Albemarle County, VA to let a Christian group distribute materials promoting their Vacation Bible School. Alas, a pagan group steps in and uses the same policy to distribute their materials, which led some Christians to develop a new-found appreciation for the separation of church and state. POPSThe passing of the Christian Right "Indeed, as President Bush's political star has waned, the Religious Right's legacy and its ability to positively impact the nation are increasingly being called into question. Critics contend that the evangelical movement has been largely reduced to political impotence and moral irrelevance."
