POPSGOP'S NEW PRAYER GURU "Engle's role as leader of TheCall has now received some mainstream media notice but the source of his influence is still largely unknown. Lou Engle serves, alongside Sarah Palin's prayer group leader Mary Glazier, on the Apostolic Council of Prophetic Elders, one of the key leadership groups wielding influence over a sprawling, global new incarnation of the religious right known as the New Apostolic Reformation. Peter Wagner was advisor for Rick Warren's dissertation for a Doctorate of Ministry from Fuller Theological Seminary. In a mid-December statement from Rick Warren, Letter To Uganda's Pastors, Rick Warren lied about his connection to Wagner."

POPSParting Ways With The Right Anti-Islamic bigotry that goes far beyond simply criticizing radical Islam, into support for fascism, violence, and genocide (see: Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer, etc.) Hatred for President Obama that goes far beyond simply criticizing his policies, into racism, hate speech, and bizarre conspiracy theories (see: witch doctor pictures, tea parties, Birthers, Michelle Malkin, Fox News, World Net Daily, Newsmax, and every other right wing source) And much, much more. The American right wing has gone off the rails, into the bushes, and off the cliff. I won’t be going over the cliff with them.

POPSDay of Prayer - No Biggie Aw shucks! James Dobson's disappointed. Just breaks my heart. After 8 years of a quasi-theocracy (mostly a smoke screen to appease the nutso base) we finally have a president how actually believes in getting things done instead of wasting time in meaningless demonstrations of religiosity.

POPSAn Open Letter to President Obama About the Republicans (From a Former Republican) The Religious Right supply the kind of people who at McCain and Palin rallies were yelling things such as "kill him" about you. That's the constituency to which your hand was extended when looking for compromise on your financial bailout bill. There's only one thing that makes sense for you now. Mr. President, you need to forget a bipartisan approach and get on with the business of governing by winning each battle. You will never be able to work with the Republicans because they hate you. Believe me, Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter are the norm not the exception. James Dobson and the rest are praying for you to fail. The neoconservatives are gnashing their teeth and waiting for you to "sell out Israel" or "show weakness" in Afghanistan, whatever, so they can declare you a traitor.

POPSObama's Choice.. Apparently, you're only allowed free choice when certain people like it. Fair weather supporters want what they want and will bitch and moan when they don't get exactly what they want. So much for 'inclusion' and 'diversity' and 'open discussion' spouted by the liberal far left.

POPSGlenn Beck and James Dobson cry out about the destruction of GOD "Beck extrapolates from this ruling that if GOD doesn't exist and GOD gives us our rights, then who gives you your rights? The States, maybe? I thought it came from our constitution, but that's just me. Anyway, WTF where they talking about in this video? (watch the video. I can't write that up) This ruling has nothing to do with our rights or the elimination of GOD. It's about keeping the separation of church and state intact." Heard the same nonsense here, from the usual sources.

POPSDisguised religion... More nonsense about honoring a "moment of silence" in schools. Why do people want this stuff institutionalized. Let kids so what they want with their time: but don't force everyone to contemplate shit they don't believe in...

POPSThe "Rick Warren Albatross" around Obama's neck Rick Warren thinks that while infidelity & abandonment are cause for divorce, spousal abuse is no . That's because wives are supposed to submit to their husband's leadership in all things. He can piss away the family money, beat you & the kids, yell and scream at you and call you a lying whore... just as long as he shows up to church on Sunday. Suck it up, Daughter of Eve. God has ordained your lot, and Pastor Rick is here to remind your husband of his rights over you. And you still can't be guy & join his church. This is who Obama picked to pray to a particular sky deity when being inaugurated as President of all citizens of the USA, religious or not . Obama gets to choose who he wants. But there are a whole lot of us who are not going to take it quietly, and in fact plan to continue shining a light on the kind of person Pastor Rick is. Hint: The difference between Rick & James Dobson (Rick tells us) is "tone".

POPSThe "Real" Rick Warren Don't believe the hype about Rick Warren being a cuddly, open-minded evangelical for the 21st century in a Hawaiian shirt. That's just wishful thinking on the media's part. On Sunday, in front of his congregation, he's the same draconian, Biblical literalist, woman-submits-to-her-husband, gays to the back of the bus, you're going to Hell if you don't worship my sky deity, religious fundamentalist as James Dobson & Jerry Fallwell. The kind who had such influence and access during the Bush years. Google "dominionism" and see what kind of iron claw is inside that velvet glove of Pastor Warren's. Don't believe the hype. Obama may be reaching out to this guy and his ilk. But I don't see any sign of reaching back. He's not trying to be what the media (and some Democrats) want him to be. But he's more than willing to use the exposure to push his agenda. I don't blame him for that. but I do blame the Obama camp for holding Warren up as something he's not.

POPSRick Warren is an insulting choice Or take marriage. At his Saddleback Church, wifely submission is official doctrine: The church website tells women to defer to their husband's "leadership" even when he's wrong on important issues, such as finances. Never mind if she's an accountant and he flunked long division, or if she wants to beef up the kids' college fund and he wants to buy shares in the Brooklyn Bridge. The godly answer is supposed to be "yes, dear." Is elevating this male chauvinist how President-elect Obama thanks women, who gave him more than half his votes? Obama to women, "Thanks for your vote, here's a kick in the teeth as your reward."

POPSJames Dobson vs Kathleen Parker for the Soul of the GOP James Dobson is none too happy with Parker for not embracing the extremely radical values of Palin and is now urging his flock to go after Parker in his latest screed. So, Kathleen Parker has determined that getting rid of social conservatives and shelving the values they fight for is the solution to what ails the Republican Party (“Giving Up on God,” Nov. 19). Isn’t that a little like Benedict Arnold handing George Washington a battle plan to win the Revolution?

POPS"John McCain's Journey from Maverick to Liar" "For 18 months, Obama has wagered all his chips on the (quaint? idealistic? brilliant?) idea that the American people are tired of the same old sleazy and divisive politics. McCain has now chosen to bet against him."

POPS 6th September 2008 Politics First! Sarah’s biggest problem (caveat: that we know of) is the so-called Troopergate scandal. Whereas it would certainly be in our country’s best interest to know if Palin abused her power before we vote, John McCain apparently has plenty of private exceptions to his public proclamation: “Country First!” Effortlessly placing campaign above country, he has deployed a militia of lawyer insurgents to storm Juneau to try to undermine the Alaska legislature’s effort to find out if Palin broke the law. Clearly, this is one of the other exceptions we keep seeing: to how John will bring a change from the Bush years.

POPSPro-life Palins Focus on the Family President James Dobson, who strongly praised McCain’s selection of Palin as a running mate, said the Palin family is approaching the pregnancy exactly how his group recommends. “We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances,” Dobson said.

POPSReason #1 Why McCain Chose Palin #2 is the PUMAs, #1 is that she's Mike Huckabee in drag. Creationist, an extremist on abortion, she's exactly what the nuts wish McCain was. Exhibit A; James Dobson, head nut and a man who said he wouldn't vote for McCain " under any circumstances ," is now voting McCain:

POPSDobson: 189; Pew on tolerance of people of faith: 8 James Dobson's attack on Barack Obama was all over the news yesterday. A new Pew Survey “documenting the diversity and tolerance of people of faith and the growing consensus around issues like poverty and the environment” was mentioned only 8 times.

POPSJames Dobson accuses Obama of `distorting' Bible Obama is correct on this. Dobson and Minnery are basically slamming those who do not acknowledge the New Testament - where Obama is at least acknowledging the Old and New. What irritates me about religion are those that think their version is the absolute truth (Dobbs/Minnery as an example) since they are no different then the radical Islamic groups.

POPSReflections on James Dobson, child-rearing, and U.S. political discourse For some time, Dr. Dobson has been known for his insistence that a key component of parents' responsibility is the inflicting of controlled violence on their children in order to make them obedient, virtuous, and "God-fearing." Here a blogger considers links between Dobson's typical language of war, as pertinent to child-rearing, marriage and homosexuality, and foreign policy.

POPSA Misunderstanding of Democracy Mr. Dobson clearly misunderstands democracy, typical of many of his clique of evangelical conservatives. Our country is governed by the consent of the people, which also means by the consensus of those representing the people. It is not mere mob rule, and slim majorities cannot and should not be allowed to determine important policies. Just as the peculiar religious convictions of a vocal few should not over-ride the will of the majority of Americans, no matter how sanctimonious their proponents. Our system of checks and balances, though complicated and at times frustrating, is what keeps our nation from descending into a dictatorship of the proletariat. It is sad that his nuanced and praiseworthy understanding of this principle may cost John McCain votes, but on the other hand, who wants votes from the likes of Dobson to begin with? A Message for Dobson: If you don't like democracy, then leave America! (You aren't helping anyway!)
