POPSLong Exposure - (5 sec rule of thumb) "The scene: A place with a crowd of people, or a view with moving traffic, or a landscape with running or moving water. Dim lighting, or twilight/dusk, is best." "The equipment: A camera that allows you to manually set the exposure time, a tripod if appropriate for the location (otherwise, a way to hold the camera completely still), and a remote shutter release or timer (hands-off shutter firing)."

POPSNikon Crams Projector Into Compact Camera The biggest drawback I see with this camera is the zoom is only 5x. And it is a bit pricey just for another gimmick. One commenter suggested adding software that will let it play Powerpoint slideshows. That would be nice.

POPSPhotography Class: Aperture / DOF etc "We talk about focus, depth of field and sharpness, as well as how lenses work, what focal lengths mean and how they put light on the sensor. We also look at the camera itself, how it works, what all the options mean and how they affect your photos."

POPSOrigami Tessellations - folded-paper art by Eric Gjerde I must send this to my father-in-law, who discovered a love of origami around the time {{spiritualmonkey}} and I got married. The monkey and I liked the idea of folding 1,000 cranes and using them as part of the decorations for the wedding & reception... but what with everything else there was to do to get ready, we got maybe to 100 and ran out of steam. One day, a month or so before the wedding, a box arrived in the mail from his folks. It was about a foot square and maybe six inches tall, and when we opened it up we found it was filled solid with origami cranes of all different colors and sizes, which his dad had folded for us. At the rehearsal dinner, Papa Monkey gave me an origami rhinoceros, which represented "the perfect family member: bad eyesight to not see faults, bad hearing to not hear gossip, a thick skin to let things bounce off, and a very, very big heart." I love my in-laws.

POPSFor Splendidus and all interested in photographing the moon Short article includes the following: Search the Web and you will certainly find something of interest. Here are two references to sources I found both educational and entertaining, and more than worth a prolonged visit. * Astrophotography with Digital Cameras by António Cidadão may be a little outdated, but is, nevertheless, very informative (and the laws of optics do not really change). It is a part of Antonio's amazing Lunar and Planetary Observation and CCD Imaging Home Page, where even ignorants like myself will want to spend quite a while. * There is a rather in-depth article on photographing a Moon with a digital camera, written by Jeremy McCreary and posted on his excellent dpFWIW Web site, a trove of information on digital photography. While I may argue on some minor technical points, the article remains a great source of information (like most of Jeremy's articles). Check it out by all means.

POPSEnough already with the megapixels "So what's the take-home message? Well, if you're shopping for an ordinary digicam, bear in mind that money spent on higher resolution may actually be buying you less than nothing. A lower resolution camera can actually be a better product in every respect. Of course, the camera companies just can't sell lower res cameras any more because every manufacturer knows it's hard to sell a five or six megapixel camera when your competitor's shiny new 8MP model's on the shelf for not much more money. Consumers don't know much about lens specs or autofocus speed, but they can do basic megapixel arithmetic real good."
