POPSBrits, U.S. Inject Capital. Save Banks. Start Socialism.
Following the lead of the Aussie's (not mentioned in article), The British government this morning pledged to "injected capital," -- hundred of billions of pounds -- to rescue its banking system. U.S. Treasury Secretary says he has "broad powers," to do the same. I think this is a good idea. It sure is a better idea than buying stinking unsecured debt that may never be repaid, that is if I understand the term "injecting capital," correctly (which I think I do but it would help if these guys spoke English). Why have they come up with what sounds like, at least, a reasonable plan? I don't know...maybe it's the intense scrutiny they are under...i.e., "oversight," actually helps. Of course there is some irony in this due to the fact that government buying ownership (buying stocks) in private companies is a cornerstone idea of socialism. And this idea comes from the ultimate capitalist who oppose government intervention in any way. I find this very interesting.

POPSDemocrats Get Ripped for Bailout Bill from Their Own The author is just getting warmed up in this clip. The entire article is worth a look at. (Actually, comparing Obama to Brutus is not a good analogy, for Brutus slew a tyrant Caesar, where Obama aided and abetted the financial czars and the Fed instead of defending the republic). The politics of Obama and the fearful Dems (Pelosi) cannot be overlooked in passing the bailout (even with republicans resisting): He lobbied hard for the bill. He did so, according to some who met with him on Capitol Hill, because he feared that if he opposed the bailout and it triggered a market collapse it could cost him the election. Better to placate the thieves on Wall Street than stand up for the masses of enraged and swindled citizens.

POPSBird Flu - Some Good News Perhaps All now for something completely different - grin - Someone who died from last great pandemic may provide good research material when exhumed because he was buried in a lead coffin. Sorry for the pun but there is some irony in fact that pollutant - lead - may help us save us from ourselves.

POPSIn China we trust Now that the U.S. government has bailed out a number of our largest financial institutions, Morgan Stanley is turning to China. The irony is that when our government bails out Bear Sterns, Fannie Mae, AIG, etc., they get the money from China too. So either way, this whole freaking mess on Wall Street is resulting in the U.S. becoming more and more indebted to China.

POPSPentagon To Expand Intel Ops at US Prison in Afghanistan
What incredible crap they sling at us... Originally built as a Soviet air base in the 1980s, the Bagram prison was meant to be a short-term holding site. Bagram has been a flash point in the debate over U.S. treatment of detainees. The International Red Cross has negotiated with U.S. officials about conditions and access to detainees. After peaking at nearly 700 prisoners in 2006, the population at Bagram has hovered for the past year at its 600-prisoner capacity, according to Central Command figures provided in response to a USA TODAY inquiry. The intelligence hires are to be in place before next summer's scheduled completion of the new detention center that will hold 1,000 prisoners, an increase in capacity by 65%. "In 2001 ... we never thought we'd still be (at Bagram) today," said Brig. Gen. Robert Holmes, deputy operations chief at U.S. Central Command, which oversees Afghanistan operations. "Now that we see this as a sustained activity, there were improvements to be mad

POPSPalin Target of Email Smear Campaign Emery is internet folklorist David Emery. Don't you just love the irony here? Sooner or later, someone's going to get everything all screwed up and people will start believing that Palin's a secret Muslim and Obama pretended to give birth to Bristol Palin's baby. Just stick to the stuff in the newspapers, people. Everything else is probably crap. There are enough real problems with Sarah Palin; there's no reason to make stuff up.

POPSBarracuda Interesting and ironic how the R's used this song and violated copyright law...

POPSGod Ditches the GOP I could barely clip enough of this excellent, humourous and right-on column for our forum. I hope y'all will take the time to read the entire piece. It is well worth the effort.

POPSMark Morford on the GOP, Palin More of this great column: To be sure, it's moments like these that make it difficult not to take some delight, not to sit back and feel the ironic righteousness melt over us like hot Cheez-Whiz over an Alaskan mooseburger. After all, Sarah Palin is anti-choice, pro-abstinence, anti sex-ed, religiously fundamentalist, a creationist, about as friendly to feminism and women's reproductive rights as John McCain is to his beloved "gooks." But here's the saddest part of all: Governor Palin knew. She absolutely had to realize that her daughter's unfortunate condition would come to light when McCain offered her this bizarre gig. To which we can only say: Way to shove your own daughter under the wheels of the GOP Machine, Governor Palin. Ultimate sacrifice indeed.

POPSMcCain's Free Air Time Why buy air time when cable news will run your ads for free? I've seen three of these ads aired on CNN today, as pundits talked about them. The irony of this is that, without the pundits discussing these things, no one would've seen them. In fact, I saw Wolf Blitzer discussing this very free media story, during which he ran McCain's ad! Liberal media my ass.

POPSWhat's Up With Black Names, Anyway? The name Kizzy, which belonged to a "Roots" character, skyrocketed from oblivion to become the 17th most popular name for black girls in Illinois in 1977. Islam began in these years to have a clear influence, too, most visibly with Cassius Clay adopting the name Muhammad Ali in 1964. Others followed suit, including two fellows named Lew Alcindor and LeRoi Jones, whom you know as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Amiri Baraka. Around this time, an American boy named Barack Hussein Obama would be born. His given names, of Semitic origin, mean "blessed" and "good." Soon, out of these more political traditions grew a new one of creating names whose sounds the parents merely found pleasing. So the next time you are tempted to ridicule a name of any color -- black, white, red, celebrity, whatever -- it would be generous, and prudent, to do a bit of research.
