POPSSarah Palin is a Bitch… there I said it. "Please take your ridiculous hair, your over lipstick-smacking mouth, your Lenscrafter look smarter glasses and your poorly fitted designer jackets back to Alaska. And when you get there, shove a piece of the pipeline up your considerable ass. I’ll be damned if we’ll put our children’s future in your hands. And the same thing goes for McCain - the ass wipe who gave her this national platform effectively pushing the woman’s movement back into the dark ages - knowing McCain that might have been his plan all along." Love it!

POPSToy Robot Intended to Save Humans This narrative, crafted by Hugo award winner Tony Daniel and University of Texas performance professor Thomas Riccio, is intended to make Zeno into a character that people identify with and want to to see develop — something with the depth of a movie character or a figure from a Homerian epic. That makes Zeno into as much of a sociological experiment as it is a technical marvel or fun toy. "The idea is to create a cultural phenomenon and accelerate the use and humanization of the technology," Where story, game, reality, toys are not differentiable anymore.

POPSPalin~Casting Stones from Her Glass House The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag." The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. There is a link to listen to it here: http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/aip_founder_professed_hatred_f.php Sarah Stalin has succeeded in one thing, and that is making McCain look like the intelligent member of their team! Not easy, but she did it!

POPSTuring test, put to test next week. "I think the reason Alan Turing set this game up was that maybe to him consciousness was not that important; it's more the appearance of it, and this test is an important aspect of appearance.' "The test will be carried out by human 'interrogators', each sitting at a computer with a split screen: one half will be operated by an unseen human, the other by a program. The interrogators will then begin separate, simultaneous text-based conversations with both of them on any subjects they choose. After five minutes they will be asked to judge which is which." "a program needs only to make 30 per cent or more of the interrogators unsure of its identity to be deemed as having passed the test, based on Turing's own criteria"

POPSIntelligent Computers Put To The Test It could also raise profound questions about whether a computer has the potential to be 'conscious' - and if humans should have the 'right' to switch it off. >>> I haven't seen humans having too much problem in 'shutting off' each other. What does it say about consciousness ?

POPSExtolling hard work, not intelligence This excellent article in The Scientific American commends practices that encourage hard work and a "growth mindset" as more effective than praising kids for being "intelligent."

POPSBillionaires Who Weren't With all the Web titans on our list of the world's billionaires, it's tempting to think that any intelligent person with a decent tech idea in the late 90s became fabulously rich. Definitely not the case. For every billion-dollar success there were plenty of eToys and Pets.com.

POPSGames and reality, Which affects which? on the other hand, "some biologists think the game could have educational value just by making users think about science, like an entertaining hook into evolutionary biology." "Ultimately, games are made to engage the people who play them. Provoking wonderment or debate is a good thing. Wright abstracts grandiose topics, and he does it well. Not enough game designers have the stones or the vision to try the same, which is why we get battered with endless versions of Madden NFL (also put out by Electronic Arts). In the end, that's also why Spore leaves such an impression. It's more than just fun. It's worth arguing about."

POPSWhat Is Emotional Intelligence? can it measured? BBC Horizon program takes seven people who are some of the highest flyers in their field - a musical prodigy, a quantum physicist, an artist, a dramatist, an RAF fighter pilot, a chess grandmaster and a Wall Street trader. Each is put through a series of tests to discover who is the most intelligent?

POPSA biologist reviews an evolution textbook from the ID camp i just don't want stuff that isn't scientifically reasonable being taught in science classes. it's fine for parents to tell them their science teachers are lying to them, but at least give the adults of the future a chance to learn the basics of science instead of stunting them with ID gibberish

POPSUniversal Networking Language The UNL is a computer language that enables computers to process information and knowledge. It is an artificial language that replicates the functions of natural languages. Using the UNL, people can express all kinds of information and knowledge that conveyed by natural languages and computers can intercommunicate using such information and knowledge. The UNL not only makes it possible to provide people with a Language Infrastructure (LI) for distributing, receiving and understanding multilingual information, but also makes it possible to provide computers with enough knowledge in the form accessible and understandable. This Knowledge Infrastructure (KI) enables computers to make intelligent processing including reasoning.

POPSyeah... just right after I shoot a Moose....! I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring em to ya Do we really need another George Bush in the White house, even if this time, it's second in command? I never vote straight Dem or Rep.... I vote the competency of the leader, and my friends, I think every time I try to see both sides objectively, one side, keeps playing lowball games which lets down the American people who deserve better. Choosing a woman who is UNQUALIFIED WOMAN demeans competent REPUBLICAN WOMEN LEADERS as well as Women voters. Katherin Sibelius (sp) would have been a great choice as a competent, intelligent woman, for example. Don't you think McCain insults his Republican party by choosing someone less than the absolute best for his "beloved" country? This is shameful to ALL AMERICANS no matter what side of the fence you sit on.... they are hiding Palin from the media for a good reason. Sad.

POPSIn defence of plastic "New plastics that change from liquid to solid on impact are finding applications in protective clothing and plastic products are being developed using the principles of nature - an area of research called biomimetics. So plastic can be valuable and can be used for functions where it needs to last for a considerable length of time. Concepts of green design should now be applied to all new plastics products so that disposable items, such as plastic packaging and throwaway consumer items, biodegrade and do not fill landfill sites or litter the landscape or seas"
