Republicans Try to Close Voting Centers.
citizenbfk
by citizenbfk  Yesterday 10:40 AM    2
While the Republicans make false charges against a group called ACORN, for doing voter fraud...here's a real fact we can hang our hats on: Republicans - went - to - court - to - try - to - close - voting -- places. Republicans are trying to close these early-voting centers because they are near poor and minority areas. If they were near their Wall St. supporters there would be no complaint. It is true, though, BTW, that these new voting centers approved last year by a majority vote of an election board, might help Democrats...that's why the majority of Democrats on this election board voted in favor. BUT - Such actions are a non-stop battle between all the parties all the time. And this is mild compared to the non-stop efforts at gerrymandering, where the boundaries of election districts and distorted in favor of one party. Since Republicans have been in power the last eight years they are Much More guilty of this.

How Obama Quietly Targets Black Voters
dulios
by dulios  10-7-2008    4
"If you didn't notice it, then you probably weren't the target," said Obama spokesman Corey Ealons of the targeted advertising. He described the campaign's general voter registration drive — which has focused heavily on young voters, as well as African-Americans — as "a very extensive effort and that's been one of the highlights and major focuses of the campaign." Obama's campaign is led by two of America's leading experts on the subtle dynamics of race and politics: the candidate himself and consultant David Axelrod, who has made a specialty of helping to elect black mayors and, more recently, the first black governor of Massachusetts. The model has been consistent: a media campaign that focuses intensely on white swing voters and a massive push to bring to the polls black voters who need no convincing of the historic nature of the candidacy.

The Spies who love Obama
BobbyRutan
by BobbyRutan  9-28-2008    1
The world is a very complicated place and there are not always easy solutions to a lot of the problems out there," says John Brennan, a top Obama intelligence advisor and former senior CIA official who co-founded the Terrorist Threat Integration Center and the National Counterterrorism Center, a post-9/11 effort to integrate the US government's terror threat intelligence. "If you look at the world in black and white, you miss a lot of the subtleties out there. 'Either with us or against'—the world is not divided into good and evil a lot of time. Despite America's military might, a lot of these problems do not lend themselves to kinetic solutions"—i.e. the use of force. And world dynamics are likely to get more complicated and nuanced, not less, by 2025. "It's time to update our national security strategy to stay one step ahead of the terrorists," Obama said at Indiana's Purdue University. "It's time to look ahead—at the dangers of today and tomorrow rather than those of yesterday.

Lesson of the Day: How Our Country Should Live More Like the Amish
urbanlife
by urbanlife  9-17-2008
“In Amish life: principles of compassion, empathy, generosity and selflessness are central. When they run their community this way, it is admirable. When we try to solve our country's problems in much the same way, it is degraded and thought despicable.” “As children we are taught to take turns, to share & to treat others as we would want to be treated. These are basic principles that few people would deny are essential to being a kind, compassionate, moral person, whether a child or adult.” “We apply these principles to our personal lives, but when it comes to our country, our government and our communities, we start hearing things about "no free rides" and about how we mustn't become a welfare state.” "What we teach our children, what we challenge ourselves with spiritually, what we know is right in any other context...it all suddenly no longer applies.”
