We Need To Do Better For Our Military
sahara
by sahara  11-10-2009
Much of the study focused on 4th Brigade, home unit to most of the violent crime suspects. 4th Brigade was compared head-to-head with 3rd Brigade, which recently returned from Iraq. The 4th Brigade, now in Afghanistan, has suffered a higher casualty rate than other units its size in two deployments, the Army found, losing lives at a rate more than eight times that of 3rd Brigade. Along with the deaths came intense combat that took a mental toll on troops, the Army found. Soldiers in 4th Brigade were more likely than other soldiers to suffer mental illness. The study also found, though, that soldiers feel their careers can be damaged by seeking mental health help and too often feel that enlisted leaders don't support troops with mental illness. Protect against toxic chemicals
kareval
by kareval  10-28-2009    1
I am shocked and deeply disturbed that the law that is supposed to protect Americans from exposure to toxic chemicals is so outdated that China is allowed to export toxic materials into the United States that are not only banned in Japan and Europe, but can't even be used domestically in China. Every American alive today, including newborn babies, has hundreds of chemicals flowing through their blood. Many of these chemicals are linked to prostate and breast cancers, diabetes, heart disease, lowered sperm counts, early puberty and other diseases and disorders. Yet, of the 82,000 chemicals available for use in the U.S., only about 200 have been required to be tested for safety. And the EPA has succeeded in banning only one group of chemicals, PCBs, from the marketplace. It's time to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). I urge you to support legislation that will: view more 1. Take immediate action to stop the use of the most dangerous toxic chemicals; 2. Give

UN calls on Israel to halt demolition of Palestinian homes
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  10-30-2009    3
  “The UN reiterates its call for an immediate and unconditional halt to such actions and urges the State of Israel to protect the civilian population in oPt from further displacement and dispossession.” Israel occupied the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, in the 1967 war and annexed the latter in a move not recognized internationally. According to Israeli authorities house demolitions are carried out on homes that have been built without official building permits, rendering them “illegal.” But, OCHA said, “lack of adequate planning combined with strict administrative requirements and high fees makes it extremely difficult for Palestinian residents to obtain such permits, leaving them no choice but to build ‘illegally’ to provide shelter for their families. Palestinian families who move outside the municipal boundaries risk losing their Jerusalem ID cards, and with it the right to live in and access the city.” [/quote}

The Wind in the Willows
Socratoad
by Socratoad  10-24-2009
The major theme of the story is the struggle between the noisy, common way of life and the quiet and genteel. The Wild Wooders, including the stoats and the weasels, epitomize the former, while the River-Bankers, including Badger, Mole, Rat, and Toad, represent the latter. Toad is a lovable rebel who does not fit well into either camp. Structurally, the fantasy is a small epic in prose paralleling to some degree the events in Homer's Odyssey.

One Nation Under God
disenchantedcitizen
by disenchantedcitizen  10-23-2009    14
This is not a Republican painting. This is not anything other than one artist's personal feelings about his love for Christ, this country and a desire to make a point about where we are headed. Our government has grown so big and powerful that the rights of the individual are at risk. This is what the Constitution was about—to limit the size of government. The patriotic heroes who stand behind Christ and the Constitution are pleading with us to defend the cause of liberty. Many of these people symbolize those who have pushed our country towards Socialism. The author states: “I hoped that this painting would encourage dialogue and debate”. For more info on the painting and the authors resoning behind the painting, including an interactive ability to point to each person to see their name, go to the website.

Obama raise drone attacks
papananook
by papananook  10-20-2009    1
The obscenity of this policy is seldom mentioned. " the drone attacks have backfired. As he told The New Yorker, "Every one of these dead non-combatants represents an alienated family, a new revenge feud, and more recruits for a militant movement that has grown exponentially even as drone strikes have increased." And because of the C.I.A. program's secrecy, Mayer writes, "there is no visible system of accountability in place, despite the fact that the agency has killed many civilians inside a politically fragile, nuclear-armed country with which the U.S. is not at war." The New Yorker further reports the Obama Administration has also expanded the sphere of authorized drone assaults in Afghanistan. An August Senate Foreign Relations Committee report said the Pentagon's list of approved terrorist targets held 367 names and included some 50 Afghan drug lords "who are suspected of giving money to help finance the Taliban," Mayer reports. She quotes the Senate report as stating, "The

But the Illuminati's agenda could be halted by a full-scale disclosure of the ET presence, Wilcock asserted. His sources have told him that such a disclosure is planned to occur before the end of 2009, and a 2-hour international TV special has already been booked that will introduce an alien species, similar to humans, to the world. Yet, a variety of ET species are visiting the Earth, including the Annunaki, who are reptilian in appearance, and a controlling force behind the Illuminati, he continued. The entire solar system is undergoing change as a galactic wave or energy field comes in, making the planets hotter, brighter and more magnetic, said Wilcock. This wave is pushing humanity to evolve to the next level or frequency, he added. But according to his sources, a spacecraft was secretly sent out to study the wave, and it was determined it will lead to planetary cataclysm between 2012-2017.

No Sign of Boy Said to Have Sailed Off on Weather Balloon
merrie

Kathy Messick, Larimer County sheriff's spokeswoman, says one of the boy's brothers saw him get into the box or basket, which was attached with pegs. She says search teams are scouring the area from the house in the direction that the balloon flew. The craft was airborne for more than two hours and glided through two countries. Messick says investigators are looking into every possibility, including whether the boy was ever in the balloon. She described the boy, Falcon, as 3 feet tall with dark hair, and said his parents are "very traumatized." Crews searching for box that was on bottom of aircraft Authorities are searching for a box that was attached to the bottom of an experimental aircraft that took off from a Fort Collins home with a 6-year-old boy inside on Thursday morning. http://www.9news.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=125161&catid=339

Fox TV - No Shame for Beck Trivializing Holocaust
nedhamson1

People have been making money by the sack full and gaining power and recognition for generations preaching about who listeners should hate, fear, outlaw, lynch, beat to death. Hitler and Stalin have been joined by Glenn Beck, Lou Dobbs and many wannabe head haters - including an ex-governor. In a market-driven economy what's one of the best ways to respond? For me it is to let Fox and CNN know, I am not watching until things change and and recommending the same to others. No Fox, No CNN. No advertising on Fox or CNN. Will they miss me - grin? Only if several hundred thousand join with me in skipping their favorite shows on Fox and CNN. I managed to quit smoking after forty years - cold turkey - so I think I can manage without my local or national Fox, or even the shows I like on CNN until they change. How about you?

Inability to use these key straits "could increase significantly the time required to introduce, reinforce, and support logistically U.S. Forces committed in the execution of contingency and other operation plans," the document said.
