Time for Jackson and Sharpton to Step Down
UpStateMike
by UpStateMike  4-13-2007    11
This article really does a good job to put things in perspective. As a white person who doesn't like or listen to Imus, him getting fired for his poor comments seems to be taking the direction of the situation to a very hypocritical level. Read the entire article, as it's probably the deepest and most well thought out one I've read about this topic.

The Worst Editorial Decision of Broadcast News
pkronfield
by pkronfield  4-19-2007    16
Another example of the disfunction of the liberal mind. It was liberal political correctness and glorification of diversity that allowed the killer to return to the streets, insane and untreated. Liberals prevented the opportunity for some victims to be armed in order to defend themselves. And now liberals air the videos of a maniac which will certainly impress and inspire future maniacs to kill more innocents. Why worry about the threat of islamofascism? We have a greater threat right in our midst. Liberalism will certainly bring down our civilization.

Notes on a (bunch of) Scandals
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  1-2-2008    5
This seems to represent one of the most perplexing American of phenomena. Our tolerance of serial idiots. Why is it that we invite them back? Why is it so hard to ruin your reputation? I don't believe the author is write, regurgitating the hackneyed "short attention span" argument. Something way more complicated is going on than that. Perhaps we let them come back because we secretly want more. More of the easy, mindless answers they give us. More of the distracting scandal that makes us feel better about ourselves. The author ignores the 700 lbs. Gorilla in the "train wreck" room: George W. Bush. After all his failures and deceptions, why do people still trust him? Do we really run from the truth? Or is it that watching their failures verifies our own righteousness? Nader said it best: he would rather see Bush president than Gore, because Bush would prove him right.

Washington Post, Dick Cheney, and War Crimes
jklugman
by jklugman  4-14-2007
Since this editorial appeared, the evidentiary trail has led straight to Vice President Richard Cheney as the author of the administration’s torture policy. Indeed, Cheney openly advocated the need for torture before the Republican Senate Caucus in his efforts to block the McCain Detainee Treatment Act of 2005, and in his advocacy of the initial version of the Military Commissions Act of 2006.

Faith-Based Fraud
laceym
by laceym  5-17-2007
His place on the cable shows will be amply filled by Al Sharpton: another person who can get away with anything under the rubric of Reverend. It's a shame that there is no hell for Falwell to go to, and it's extraordinary that not even such a scandalous career is enough to shake our dumb addiction to the "faith-based."

Barack’s Junior Brownshirts Are Everywhere
merrie
by merrie  5-6-2009    4
Whoever stamped ”DENIED” across my document clearly felt justified in defacing it. Though petty, this was a hostile act - another tiny blow in the insidious war on free thought. … Instead of gossiping at the water cooler, today’s privileged jugend hover in packs around TV monitors to mock the usual suspects - poor old Sarah Palin, the Tea Partiers, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Miss California (chivalry is deader than dead). Together, they telegraph their warning to anyone who might disagree: don’t. … Twenty-somethings are fond of declaring, “It’s a free country!” But is it? Really? hese kids - who see nothing odd about surrounding themselves with creepy, halo’d icons of The One - mock folks who actually make the effort to exercise their right to free speech on talk radio, at Tea Parties, and at workplace printers. They think this double standard is perfectly normal.

Where "Bitches, Ho and Niggas' came from
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  4-14-2007    1
It would appear that there is a double standard in public outcry concerning bad behavior. I guess an old white man using the term "nappy headed hos" raises the ire of the black population while their own spew forth even greater obscenities in the form of "RAP" each and every week as the top 10 Rap playlist would suggest. Course I guess this kind of behavior and speech is expected of such 'rappers' who profess to be portraying life as they know it. WELL folks black or white rich or poor if your culture is identified by such derogatory terms perhaps you should be protesting the degradation of your culture and demand change in that same culture. Why would you permit anyone to portray your culture by such language? You deserve better and you should demand those who portray your culture in such demeaning terms to cease and desist. We all have the freedom of speech to say whatever we feel we need to say but that does not mean that anyone has to listen.

Bill O'Reilly Must Go!!
zasel
by zasel  2-23-2008    1
This is not a matter of free speech. This is the matter of a well known, extremely popular and influential media maven, who is suggesting that if Michelle Obama actually has some negative feelings about the country, she should be lynched. Don Imus was thrown off the air for referring to a women's basketball team as "nappy headed ho's." David Schumer, a well respected and generally fair-minded journalist was suspended for suggesting employing a poor choice of words regarding Chelsea Clinton's participation in her mom's presidential primary campaign. But Bill O'Reilly, for some reason has been declared untouchable by Fox News after making this hateful and racist comment, not the first time I might add that he has used similar inflammatory language. It is time for the public to demand that O'Reilly be held accountable for his irresponsible and hateful speech. Please call or email Fox and demand his removal from our airwaves.

Who Hijacked The Primaries And What We MUST Do!
merrie
by merrie  1-31-2008    1
This is our party, not John McCain’s or Mel Martinez's, or Lindsay Graham’s. The Republican Party is THE conservative party dammit. Let’s admit it and take it back. RINOS and Liberals have taken the GOP plane hostage, and its time for us passengers to revolt…and do what has to be done -- "Let’s Roll" Sadly these 4 states have done more than set the tone for the other 46 -- they’ve dictated terms. Frankly I could extend the analogy to include Nevada, which is down to about 13% native -- but why beat a dead horse. What we have is the sick and twisted dreams of Pinch Sulzberger, Don Imus, Maureen Dowd, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews come true: the GOP has been forced to choose a nominee designed to cause the base to retch, and thereby not vote. Guaranteeing 4 years of Clinton score settling or Obama socializing entire corporate sectors

By just translating what Rush says into their native language, and downloading vintage footage of Rush on TV, or cartoons of Rush, the epitome (stereotype) of what a fist waving, NEO-FASCISTS looks like and BOOM one has the best Terrorist recruiting poster and related material one needs bar none.

I am no Catholic...or defender of Imus or Pat Robertson or the LDS; but why does this hateful man's remarks not receive the condemnation that they deserve? There seems to be selective outrage within our society. He appears to have his own brand of 'cult' thinking that he spreads with impunity.
