POPSNo Such Thing as Free Excellent excellent read / article. Especially that last couple of paragraphs regarding suggestions of hidden cost from cell phone companies legislation. Sounds good to me. Just ask yourself when you're shopping for a new cell phone: "Do you want an iPhone, or an HTC Hero and a 50-inch plasma TV?" LOL I LOVE IT!

POPSSamsung Unveils Another iPhone Competitor In an interesting choice of timing, Samsung unveiled this slick touchscreen phone Monday morning, just before Apple's debut of the 3G iPhone. Also interesting: Samsung already has an iPhone competitor--its Instinct, which will launch on Sprint on June 20. The two phones could be part of a broader global strategy, with the Omnia targeting Asia and Europe.

POPSGoogle Phone Not a Phone? Turns out that Google isn't making hardware...no big surprise there. But if it contracts a handset maker (like HTC, as Forbes writer Brian Caulfield has reported) to build the phone and then installs its own innovative OS, that could still offer real competition to the iPhone.

POPSMicrosoft WiFi Portable Media Player "To attract current iPod users Microsoft is going to let you download for free any songes you've already bought from the iTunes Music Store." Wow. Still, this device will need to be some sort of real killer to get people to switch (there are still switching costs in terms of time and learning curve).
