Who Do These Homeschooling Parents Think They Are?

It's funny how some people seem so set against a parent's right to homeschool. This comment lampoons that beautifully. (More at the site.)

More evidence of the anti-homeschooling movement in America. I have 4 friends who have committed their lives to the public education system. They are worn-out and completely discouraged. The "system" failed them and our kids. Take back your children's education....homeschool.

"No right to educate your own child?"
jatfla
by jatfla  4-6-2008    4
If I had it to do over again, I would definitely homeschool. However, the resources were not so readily available as they are now. Homeschool my grandchildren??....absolutely! They are being indoctrinated, not educated. When save the planet, global warming, recycling, etc...is what I hear when they walk home with me...well, forget it! They are so smart and eager to learn. Reading, writing and arithmetic...add a little musical training, science, compute introduction, etc... But they can't keep it to the basic. The NEA has their agenda, but it is not that of many American parents.

The effect and goal of progressive bias in education
willhelm
by willhelm  3-28-2008    3
Bruce Walker: "The Nazis also warned parents that children who went to religious schools would be discriminated against in employment." "What happened in the 1930s in Nazi Germany, however, was preceded by what happened in Oregon in 1922. The Ku Klux Klan supported and passed the Compulsory Education Law which required that parents send their children to public schools and not private schools. The avowed purpose of this law was to get children "while their minds are plastic" and to turn the child into "a true American." "Many on the Left today see public education as primarily a mechanism to mold children into people who will better fit into the vision that these Leftists have for America. Those tinkerers should know what good company they keep: they are following in the footsteps of Nazi Germany and of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Educational monoculture is an invitation to tyranny."

Parents in California don't have a right to homeschool their children. And what is the alternative, government schools. These people are acting like sending your children to government schools is a good thing. How far from reality can you get if you live in California?

Against Law to Homeschool
Eaglewings
by Eaglewings  3-6-2008    3
Well once again the government of the people by the people and for the people seems to be giving it to the people. I do not know how the public education system got so out of control in this country but I think it is about time we the people started to take back control of the things that matter in our society, starting with the education of our children.

Independent Homeschooling
hszoo
by hszoo  6-22-2007
Interesting and very informative blog, Independent Homeschooling is written by a homeschooling mom. She looks at homeschooling as the best way to teach your child, while recognizing that not every single parent may be able to homeschool. She also looks at it in a very sensible manner, not expecting every child to exceed his peers, but simply to learn and be a person others like having around. I like this woman's attitude.
