POPSMy Country, Tis Of Thee, Sweet Land Of Liberty Long before the Hamdan trial, we already knew that we were offered bin Laden in transit from Sudan to Afghanistan. But we did not want him. Our lawyers had no battle, our leaders no mettle. Most of us, though not all, have learned nothing. After thousands smote and seven years of war, we are back to our superior ways, demanding Habeas Corpus and noting in the very first trial that bin Laden’s deputy was read no Miranda rights upon his capture - or was it arrest? They say history repeats itself. Never before has it applied so swiftly, within the same generation and within the same conflict. A selfish society incapable of sacrifice is equally incapable of self-defense. Our greatest concern is not the pursuit of madmen or the states which feed them. It is not even the cost of oil and its affect on our economy and future.

POPSThat Wacky Century - Part IX (1985-2000) Yes. We all agree that the NASA jokes about the disaster were in poor taste but I swear that I heard the first one less than 24 hours after the explosion! New Coke, Three Mile Island and Chernobyl?? Hmm. I am glad I am allergic to Coke!

POPSThe End of the Innocence Remember when the days were long And rolled beneath a deep blue sky Didnt have a care in the world With mommy and daddy standing by When happily ever after fails And weve been poisoned by these fairy tales The lawyers dwell on small details Since daddy had to fly But I know a place where we can go Thats still untouched by man Well sit and watch the clouds roll by And the tall grass wave in the wind You can lay your head back on the ground And let your hair fall all around me Offer up your best defense But this is the end This is the end of the innocence O beautiful, for spacious skies But now those skies are threatening Theyre beating plowshares into swords For this tired old man that we elected king Armchair warriors often fail And weve been poisoned by these fairy tales The lawyers clean up all details Since daddy had to lie But I know a place where we can go And was away this sin Well sit and watch the clouds roll by And the tall grass wave in the wind J

POPSA Worldview Destroying America
History Repeats Itself - many of these you can replace the word "Israel" with "America" and "Jerusalem" with "city" and gain much insight - where we are and were we are headed. Ezekiel 22:25-28"There is a conspiracy of her prophets in her midst like a roaring lion tearing the prey. They have devoured lives; they have taken treasure and precious things; they have made many widows in the midst of her. 26 "Her priests have done violence to My law and have profaned My holy things; they have made no distinction between the holy and the profane, and they have not taught the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they hide their eyes from My sabbaths, and I am profaned among them. 27 "Her princes within her are like wolves tearing the prey, by shedding blood and destroying lives in order to get dishonest gain. 28 "Her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, 'Thus says the Lord God,' when the Lord has not spoken.

POPSThe Sentinels - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier I have seen this "walk" and the changing of the guard at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., USA. There are a number of web sites with lots of photos of this Tomb and the surrounding area. This kind of dedication to duty is admirable and impressive. Standing guard even in extreme heat, rain, snow, and hurricanes. I remember how in awe I was of these men as a small child the first time I visited here. There are other impressive places in the USA, and I have been fortunate to see quite a few of them. I am a great fan of history, and this tomb reflects a large part of U.S history (the army and wars for freedom).

POPSHistory Repeats Itself FRANÇOIS FURSTENBERG's comparison of the Bush administration's policies and the Jacobins is eye-opening. Can we learn from the excesses of the French Revolution?

POPSGeronimo, Apache United States history would call this man a savage, a person who was evil, but history also shows the true side of Geronimo, a man who loved his people, fought to save his people and fought against a tyrannical people bent on the total distruction of the red race, history always repeats it's self this genocide is still on going. POPSWhat could be more democratic? Bush may have the courage to debate, but not the talent and skills necessary for a free form debate where the questions and issues are not pre-screened and pre-spun. Oh and of course there is the matter of historical record. The US will not be able to take the high ground. The usual putdowns and re-writing of history typical of the Fox News Ditto Head Bushies won't fly in such a debate. What is worse is that if Bush declines, he will lose face in the Arab world and be seen as weak and cowardly. Not that he had much respect in the first place, but still.

POPSBath School disaster - History repeats itself The current situation has been sad indeed. But to illustrate that before Columbine and Virginia Tech, things like this happened. The media was just not as accessible to the rest of the US, let alone the rest of the world and certainly not in real-time.

POPSHistory Repeats ? How feasible is a divided Iraq ? Cut back to 1947. Ethnic riots had broken out across India, and its leaders decided the best course of action was to divide the country. Cyril Radcliffe drew a line across a map dividing communities that had lived together for hundreds of years. Result: a million deaths and 14-16 million people displaced. Neither was that the end of the story. India and Pakistan didn't stop fighting, Pakistan imploded violently into two nations, and the mayhem still goes on in Kashmir. It's only a unified, multicultural Iraq that can preserve some semblance of independence and decency.
