POPSEgalitarian revolution in the Pleistocene? In humans, a secondary transition from egalitarian societies to hierarchical states took place as the first civilizations were emerging. How can it be understood in terms of the model discussed? One can speculate that technological and cultural advances made the coalition size much less important in controlling the outcome of a conflict than the individuals' ability to directly control and use resources (e.g. weapons, information, food) that strongly influence the outcomes of conflicts.

POPSThe Holy Leper And The Bisexual Christian
"Jesus the holy leper speaks to my bisexuality by offering me a model for life outside the boundaries of destructive hierarchical dualisms. Jesus does not appear to have spent much energy worrying about the impossibility of his status, since there was too much Kingdom work to do and since his experience was that nothing was impossible with God. I can, for example, strive to make God's love manifest in all of my relationships, sexual and nonsexual, regardless of the genders involved. I can refuse to behave as though men were superior to women (traditional sexist values) or as though women were superior to men (a common response to sexism, but not, I think, the ultimate word about who we can be as human beings). I can offer particular encouragement to others who cross boundaries of gender, sexuality, race, and class, by word and by example, and I can try to be alert to the unique, wonderful and surprising gifts of individuals without either disregarding or idolizing their gender identit

POPSBrian Eno vs African Music ... Classical music is music without Africa. It represents old-fashioned hierarchical structures, ranking, all the levels of control. Orchestral music represents everything I don't want from the Renaissance: extremely slow feedback loops ...

POPSSurveillance in eLearning food for thought. The student, supposedly the centre of learning, is a second class citizen when using institutional learning environments. Whilst more information may be available about them via social networking sites, the sense (and reality) of better control over data ironically may provide more privacy. People value privacy, even if only to be in control of who they give it away to. Institutional oversight of learning (probably) impinges on educational efficacy.

POPSCuring libertarian political impotence - a prescription for Electile Dysfunction Being a moderate, from some perspectives, is a fool's errand. Moderates by nature are not loud or noisy, but being moderate never meant it was easy to walk their walk or talk their talk. It is not just about NOT being radical on the right or left side of politics....it is all about keeping government, our government, in check, controlling the area experts, the proponents of hierarchical government.
