POPSBoston launches flu shot tracking
Infectious disease specialists in Boston and elsewhere predicted that the registry approach could prove even more useful if something more sinister strikes: a bioterrorism attack or the long-feared arrival of a global flu epidemic. In such crises, the registry could be used to track who received a special vaccine or antidote to a deadly germ. "Anything you can do to better pinpoint who's vaccinated and who's not, that's absolutely vital," said Michael Osterholm, director of the Center for Infectious Disease Research & Policy at the University of Minnesota. "I wish more cities were doing this kind of thing." Boston is believed to be the first city to embrace this particular approach to tracking vaccinations against the seasonal flu, estimated to kill 36,000 people each year in the United States, principally the elderly. But when Boston bought the monitoring system from a Milwaukee company in 2006, emergency authorities had a far different use in mind: tracking people injured in

POPSBoston Plans Livestock-Type Flu Vaccine and Tag Program Mmmooo...People will be herded, shot, tagged, and treated like cattle. Welcome to the human plantation where the government is the proverbial Farmer from Orwell's dictatorial Animal Farm....in America. . This is phase 1 under the plea of "necessity" of course. More "experiments" will come later as the sheep get used to it.

POPS5 Digital Television Transition Myths
. . . (including many handheld TV devices). Myth #2: I need a new HDTV in order to watch a DTV broadcast. If you're a cable or satellite subscriber, you won't notice a thing when analog television broadcasting ceases. You can continue to use whatever television or other display device you're using now. For the folks who view free local TV via an antenna, the ability to receive and view digital broadcast television signals requires the use of a compatible digital tuner that's either built into the TV or a separate set-top box. Myth #3: The government's TV Converter Box Coupon Program has run out of money/coupons. The government's TV Converter Box Coupon Program Web site is still accepting new applications and will continue to distribute coupons until "the obligation ceiling is reached." Keep in mind that unredeemed coupons are recycled back into the program, so while it may take a longer time to process your request, now compared with a few months ago, . . .

POPSCircuit City, I Won’t Miss You I was at a Circuit City last year attempting to buy a keyboard and was told they couldn’t make the sale because their computers were down. I asked if they could just give me a hand written receipt and the cashier refused. I pointed out that a handheld calculator could figure the tax on the clearly marked price of the item and still she would not budge. So, they lost the sale and a customer Have we really gotten so dependent on computers that a business will lose money when they go down? This same thing happened at a different another store (not Circuit City) a couple of years ago and the cashier did indeed make the sale because he actually used the calculator to total it all up. Computers are our future but you still should be able to at least use a calculator.

POPSArmy Orders Pain Ray Trucks Can anyone else see that law enforcement would love to have these on our streets? This could be a precursor to a vaporization weapon. In the meantime, scientist are working on a handheld short range weapon for law enforcement officials. Potential for abuse is expected to be very high. We have already seen the damage that ‘non lethal’ stun guns do in the hands of over-zealous police officers.

POPSOperating inside a Beating Heart
"We know how to repair valves. But what patients and doctors want is a more rapid recovery," says Marc Gillinov, It can take two or three months for a patient to recover from an open-heart procedure; if the heart didn't have to be stopped, the recovery time could drop significantly. Performing the surgery on a beating heart would also give the surgeon instant feedback on the effectiveness of the procedure. "You'd know just as you do it whether the valve is working well," Gillinov says. Data from the 3-D ultrasound images is analyzed using special software written by the researchers. The software can predict where heart tissue will be approximately 70 to 100 milliseconds in the future, so the position of the tip of the handheld surgical tool can be adjusted accordingly. Sensors in the tool also detect whether it comes in contact with the tissue. "We can detect very quickly if things deviate greatly from what's predicted and then pull back the to get it out of the way,"
