POPSCommercial Espionage Not only do I think it would be stupid not to believe the Chinese do it...when the stakes are high, everyone does it. Governments, companies, whatever. The Chinese are kind of right to suggest commerical and political victimization. This is an everyday reality with all contacts.

POPSHacker Infects School Video Systems with Socialism Virus "They're trying to force our kids to stay in school so they won't be able to go to work. Who's going to get the jobs at McDonald's if our kids are forced to stay in school? I'll tell you-Mexicans, that's who." A Fox Fruitcake monitor said schoolchildren were particularly vulnerable to the virus. "They're very impressionable," the monitor said. "If they're exposed to radical socialist ideas that brainwash them, they may come to believe that slacking off isn't the way to succeed. The results would be catastrophic." Other parents feared the virus would have even more severe long-term consequences. "It's insidious," said Watt A. Nutt of Memphis. "Once it's in the schools' video systems, it can take over the whole curriculum and start indoctrinating our kids in hard-core Communist ideas, like the world isn't flat, and 2 + 2 isn't 5."

POPSNew breed of spycams pose threat to privacy " You probably don't know this, but Adobe's Flash Player browser plug-in, which many people install to view Flash video clips and adverts on the web, has a Settings Manager that has two settings that control whether websites you access, and potentially other Internet users, can turn on your webcam and microphone remotely - with or without asking your permission. In addition, the Internet VoIP and chat application Skype also has some settings that can control whether and how a webcam in or connected to your computer is enabled when using it."

POPS NOT N.I.C.E. (criticism of NICE has been ceaseless)
saw nothing wrong with running this unabashed love-letter to a health-care system, in effect, ruled by death panels (See my post on this last Friday, or Tom Maguire's Sunday item for more). Now, suddenly, to even suggest such a possibility is McCarthyism " now called Palinism " according to Richard Cohen. What drives me crazy about liberal complaints about conservative tactics these days is how selective they are. Obama, Barney Frank, Jacob Hacker, and others have said that they want these reforms " specifically the public option " to lead to single payer. But when conservatives take them at their word, suddenly it's outrageous misinformation and "fishy" stuff. When the wind is at their backs, liberals look way off to the horizon, like Obama at a podium, dreaming of a future of European-style statism. But when conservatives use this to their advantage, suddenly it is outrageous to even consider the possibility of a road to hell being paved with good intentions. . . .

POPS“Operation Get Rich or Die Tryin” Perp, Busted Again “We’re not seeing a huge array of hackers capable of doing this, but rather a more select group, demonstrates that there is a level of sophistication involved in these hacks,” said Assistant U.S. Attorney Erez Liebermann of the Justice Department’s New Jersey district office. But these are just the latest in a string of high-profile breaches that have been connected to Gonzalez. He and 10 others were charged in May and August 2008 with network intrusions into TJX, OfficeMax, Dave & Busters restaurant chain and other companies. Jury selection is slated to begin Sept. 14 in one of those cases. With regard to the Heartland-Hannaford cases, Gonzalez and the two unnamed Russian hackers have been charged with one count of conspiracy to commit computer fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. They each face a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a possible maximum fine of $250,000 on the computer-fraud count and

POPSGovernment Hype Against Skype and VoIP--"Security Threat" It's not just Russia that is opposed to private internet telephony applications. Buried deep in the article the real reason comes out: Delegates at the meeting also warned that it has been impossible for police to spy on VoIP conversations The NSA has admitted the same thing here --enough to tap the hacker market to find a "solution". (Offering big money to those who would help break our privacy, for their own gain). Too bad. It's not only cheap to place calls this way, but so far very private.

POPSBritish injustice continues Member of Parliament for blackpool promised to resist the American extradition of this man, then promptly fell into his cowardly shell as this immoral and illegal government put the pressure on. you want Brits to fight your illegal wars but you are not prepared to fight for our legitimate rights. Your silence, Gordon Marsden, on the Andy Miller situation only emphisise the fact that you are unfit to represent anyone except your odd - queer (sic) - associates.

POPSPaul Krugman Admits Political Strategy Underlying ObamaCare (Video) speaking to a small audience of progressive activists in NJ: “…the only reason not to do is that politically it’s hard to do in one step…You’d have to convince people to completely give up the insurance they have, whereas something that let’s people keep the insurance they have but then offers the option of a public plan, that may evolve into single-payer, but you can do it politically…” There it is in a nutshell. Thank you Paul Krugman, economic adviser to the President, and eminent columnist for the New York Times, for filling us in on what’s really going on. Maybe one of these days someone in the mainstream media will enlighten the public on what so many prominent Democrats seem to have no problem admitting behind closed doors.

POPS Iranian Twitterers Sidestep News Blackout
"Since the election, we have heard reports that users in Iran are having difficulties accessing Facebook," said Barry Schnitt, Facebook spokesman. "This is disappointing, especially at a time when Iranians are turning to the internet as a source of information about the recent election." Judging by tweets since Friday's election, the censorship didn't slow some users down. Many then tweeted to share their tactics. "Iranelection" was the top Twitter trend for the past few days, and a message thread led by "Persiankiwi" appeared to be orchestrating hacker attacks on official Iran websites while firing off updates on developments in the streets. "We are going offline to get a phone free for calling out," Persiankiwi tweeted at midday. "We are also moving location - too long here - is dangerous." A subsequent Persiankiwi tweet reads: "Attacked in streets by mob on motorbikes with batons - firing guns into air - street fires all over town - roads closed."

POPSLooking For Green Men--Hacker Knocked Out Army Computers Ironically, I think the government should thank him for pointing out their idiot System Administrators aren't doing their jobs. Come on, 56k modem? Well, he doesn't deserve the 70 years he is facing.....If he gets convicted in England, he'll get no time. Hell, no one gets any more than a few years when convicted of more heinous crimes there. Amazing!
