(Or more like David Kelly?) Walking down the street... as in being "disappeared"? Accidental drowning... as in waterboarding? Hmm... well thank heavens at least the billions of $$$ spent have made us safe from "terrorists".:)

"New 'Stealth' Racism" in Jena, Louisiana.
righthand
by righthand  8-6-2007    2
The town has gained international notoriety for the alleged "new 'stealth' racism" that lives on in America with national attention drawn to the events by prime time radio story Intimidation cited includes an incident in which a white student brandished a gun at a convenience store after a verbal exchange. Students allegedly wrestled away the gun and were then held in custody and charged with theft while no charges were made against the white student. On the first day of trial for Bell, one of the defendants, the prosecutor agreed to reduce the charges for Bell to aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy to commit aggravated second-degree battery. Bell was found guilty by an all-white jury, and will face the possibility of up to 22 years in prison. The sentencing was originally scheduled for July 30, but has been delayed until Sept 20 It's currently in dispute, as the public defender did not call a single witness to defend Bell. The other 5 students will be tried at a late

Higher rate of gun ownership does not mean higher violent crime rate
ghgroenewold
by ghgroenewold  9-2-2007    4
Some more: "The reason that gun ownership doesn't correlate with murder rates, the authors show, is that violent crime rates are determined instead by underlying cultural factors. "Ordinary people," they note, "simply do not murder." Rather, "the murderers are a small minority of extreme antisocial aberrants who manage to obtain guns whatever the level of gun ownership" in their society."

Interviews: Proof of soldiers Abuse against Arabs
righthand
by righthand  10-12-2007    7
"We were in a weapon carrier when this guy, around 25, passed by in the street, and just like that, for no reason, he didn't throw a stone, did nothing - bang, a bullet in the stomach - he shot him in the stomach and the guy is dying on the sidewalk and we keep going, apathetic. No one gave him a second look." An ideology developed that even minor events necessitated a brutal response. "A 3-year-old kid, he can't throw, he can't hurt you no matter what he does, but a kid of 19 can. With women I have no problem. With women, one threw a clog at me and I kicked her here , I broke everything there. She can't have children. Next time she won't throw clogs at me. When one of them spat at me I gave her the rifle butt in the face. She doesn't have what to spit with anymore." Some of them to cover up for their friends, even if they stole from homes where they conducted searches or sexually harassed or provoked Arab women. ...Haaretz

Conservative Dictionary...understanding right-wing lingo

"While surfing the Web, you may come upon many conservative-oriented pages. They use their own lingo, which can be confusing to outsiders. To aid you in your perusal of right wing web resources, here is a concise glossary of some terms they use. Standard disclaimers apply: "I know all conservatives aren't Nazis, my best friends are conservative, really, blah, blah, blah...""

Religions Effect on Children

When Richard Dawkins described religion as a form of child abuse he was roundly criticized. In this short clip we are witness to children (10 and 14 years old) who are "willing to die for Islam". I'd like to hear how Dawkins critics rationalize that.

The Price of Machine Guns
willhelm
by willhelm  4-28-2008    7
I propose a Machine Gun Distribution Act be passed by Congress. It has been brought to my attention that the price of machine guns is entirely unreasonable. Congress should pass a bill to lower the price of machine guns so they are more accessible to law-abiding lower and middle income groups. Better yet, how about a charity? I think I should begin to collect and organize funds to buy and distribute machine guns to the law abiding public.

Weighing Parole For Killers
debbyski
by debbyski  7-14-2008    5
I guess we could argue that there should be no parole for killers, and that would be a black and white argument. I'm sure black and white feels pretty damn good to the victim's families. One thing I would like to say is I think some on CM feel as though clippers must agree 100 percent with the clip or we wouldn't clip the article. Not true, at least in my case and I welcome polite, concise, adult conversation on any clip. Opposing views are always welcome and can lead to meaningful dialog and in the spirit of that, I feel this clip asks the reader to dig deep on the concept of forgiveness in our society. Is that concept worth considering? The answer can be a very complex one with good arguments on both sides.

WiFi Turns Internet Into Hideout For Criminals
Sorgalim
by Sorgalim  2-12-2007    2
These days, the Internet is as indispensable to an officer's arsenal as his gun and handcuffs. Indeed, a growing number of officers are being assigned to patrol cyberspace..."Technology just makes the park no longer the only place where the pervert goes," West said. The problem is going to get worse, authorities said. Every day, more homes, businesses and entire jurisdictions are outfitted with wireless networks, creating an almost seamless patchwork of available Internet connections to anyone with a laptop and the desire to get online.

Bush: No Ideology Other than Greed
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  12-19-2007    2
This cracks me up. So: are right wingers strict-constructionists, decentralizing as much as possible and protecting states rights or big government federalists using consolidated power to engineer their ideal society? Depends on the issue: Prohibiting Abortion: Federalist unless it is a state trying to ignore Roe v Wade, in which case: State's Rights Integrating Schools: States Rights Unless it comes to Federal support for segregation: Federalists Marijuana decriminalization: Federalist Unless your state institutes ridiculously draconian and probably unconstitutional punishments: States Rights Gun Ownership: States Rights Unless unless you are Washington DC and pass restrictive gun control laws: Federalists Environmental Protection: States Rights Unless your state actually tries to protect the environment at the expense of big business: Federalist These guys believe in nothing, they just use any ideology they can to justify whatever it is the want.
