The carbon offset market quickly exploded. In fact, $92 billion worth of offsets were estimated to change hands in 2008. But wanton profiteering appears to be the sole rationale for "carbon trading". Put simply, a wide range of respected scientists, environmentalists, researchers, agriculturalists, and activists believe that carbon offsets are a "scam", "fantasy", "fiction", "nonsense", "fraudulent" and worse. And they've been saying so since 2000, though to read the newspaper you wouldn't know it. The World Rainforest Movement, for example, investigated these bizarre financial ties and concluded that the IPCC report must "...be shelved due to their clear conflict of interest and a new report instigated which will be free of the taint of intellectual corruption."

Subsequent computation lowers the whales’ carbon dioxide emissions estimate to 0.3 percent, which is equivalent to 17 million tons of carbon a year. Lavery and team explain that there are low levels of iron in the Southern Ocean, and the sperm whales each contribute about 10 grams of iron to the surface. Since the iron comes from the whales’ waste material, it takes the form of liquid plumes, effectively acting as a fertilizer and encouraging growth of plankton. Depending on the exact values and environmental conditions, sperm whales can then be classified “either a net carbon sink or as carbon-neutral,” Discovery writes.

Mosquito nets and attacking breeding grounds of mosquitoes and building levees to protect against potentially rising sea levels are all much cheaper but dramatically more effective than signing on to something that would prohibit these countries to develop.

If you have not heard , they were the one's whose clients were without power for 14 days during last year's ice storm. This company has never spent a dime in emergency planning( no joke) or testing despite an annual raise in rates , until this year. Yet the top 10 on the board are pulling in 6 figure salary's. With company's like this around how can you afford not to go green?

As temperatures rise, the sea bed grows warmer and frozen water crystals in the sediment break down, allowing methane trapped inside them to escape. OK everyone, let’s remember where we are " the ARCTIC, because this is important. It’s really cold in the Arctic, especially in the deep waters. The gas is normally trapped as “methane hydrate” in sediment under the ocean floor. “Methane hydrate” is an ice-like substance composed of water and methane which is stable under conditions of high pressure and low temperature. As temperatures rise, the hydrate breaks down. So this new evidence shows that methane is stable at water depths greater than 400m off Spitsbergen. Trust me when I note that pressure and temperature are not the only factors " by far " which dictate when the methane can be released. The make up of the sea floor is also important. If it is not stable or strong then the methane can be released in one area and not another under the same temps and pressures.

POPSAdministration Privately Admits Cap-And-Trade Could Cost Families $1,761 A Year: FOIA Documents So there you have it, from an internal Treasury Department document that cap-and-trade could generate federal receipts, i.e. tax revenue, in the range of $100 to $200 billion a year. Does that cost sound familiar to you? The Heritage Foundation has long predicted that: "The annual cost of emissions permits to energy users will be at least $100 billion by 2012 and could exceed $390 billion by 2035." This raises a whole other issue, that the $100 to $200 billion estimate by Treasury has no date or timeline of any kind. While Heritage follows the trajectory through to 2035, and even to 2050, the Treasury Department doesn't provide any further analysis or calculations. In a different memo, prepared by President Obama's transition team after the election, they throw this out there: "Economic costs will likely be on the order of 1% of GDP, making them equal in scale to all existing environmental regulation." That's another prediction offered up without any details as to . . .

POPSEarth Experiment Could Buy Precious Time Initial results suggest that the biggest cooling would occur in the polar regions, which is consistent with theory, and is exactly the place where cooling is most needed. The big advantages of this scheme are that it uses sea water spray, a naturally occurring substance, and that it can be turned off immediately if there are any undesirable consequences.
