Jon Krakauer: McChrystal's Explanation For Pat Tillman Cover-up Is "Preposterous"
ratilfar
by ratilfar  11-2-2009
That may change. On Sunday, journalist Jon Krakauer joined the Meet the Press panel to discuss his new book on Tillman's death called Where Men Win Glory. Krakauer offered a harsh assessment of McChrystal's conduct during that period and even stressed that the General's explanations upon reflection were "preposterous" and "unbelievable."

The Worst Song In the World
ColoradoRight

The most galling thing about “Imagine” is how it urges the listener to assume the mantle of that “dreamer,” thereby joining the ranks of the free spirits, bohemians and other assorted loafers, chislers and social parasites who are only too happy to belly up to the table that is our society but who are nowhere to be found when the check arrives: “Sorry, I can’t be bothered to work to build something or to fight to defend anything – you see, I’m a dreamer, so you just let me know when you’ve gotten everything ready for me to enjoy. Until then, I’ll be here relaxing on my parents’ sofa, pretending to read Gravity’s Rainbow. ”

Invisible hand in invisible matter. Dark matter might not exist.
dopesick
by dopesick  10-10-2009
Dr Famaey added, "If we account for our observations with a modified law of gravity, it makes perfect sense to replace the effective action of hypothetical dark matter with a force closely related to the distribution of visible matter." The implications of the new research could change some of the most widely held scientific theories about the history and expansion of the universe. Lead researcher Dr. Gianfranco Gentile at the University of Ghent concludes, "Understanding this puzzling conspiracy is probably the key to unlock the formation of galaxies and their structures." What about NASA's direct proof on dark matter's existance? Broken study? This is actually makes sense, but so far is a little hard to accept. Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Jeff Galloway: Silly yet effective mental tricks to make it across the finish line
Lexica
by Lexica  10-8-2009
More: Magic Footprints: Here's another foot-related trick: Visualize fatigue escaping from your body through the soles of your feet. Imagine leaving footprints that are damp and faintly glowing with the residue of the fatigue that, moments earlier, was slowing you down. With every stride, you're gaining energy. Super Coolant: It's a sweltering day, the finish line seems unreachable, and you're hotter than a polar bear at the equator. No problem. At the next aid station, imagine that the volunteers have slipped a secret ingredient into your water. This substance soaks up heat. Take a short walk break as you grab two cups, drinking as much of one as you need. Feel the water (and its secret ingredient) seeping into your arms and legs, down to your bones, cooling your core body temperature. Then lean forward, pour the other cup over your head, and picture steam escaping. Visualize billions of molecules absorbing body heat and then releasing it into the air.

Abraham Lincoln, Barack Obama, America's military

What is most disturbing to me today is the reaction I have not seen to Mr. Perry's lunacy. I have read dozens of condemnations of his--I will be blunt--chickenshit call for a military coup, and dozens more posts and stories using his idiocy as a talking point in current political battles. What I have not read are dozens of stories explaining something that is as certain as the law of gravity: The United States military does not act against the government of the United States. Note: click on John Perry's name to see what he is on about.

Asteroid collision threat further downgraded
Oortcloud
by Oortcloud  10-7-2009    1
Some of you may have heard of the asteroid Apophis that is going to pass very close to the earth in 2029? The estimates were that Earth's gravity would nudge it enough that it would return a few years later and hit the Earth. Further orbital calculations have shown that the odds of this happening are even less likely than once thought.

What if Electricity Was FREE???
sahara
by sahara  8-7-2008    2
The life story and work of Nikola Tesla. He invented AC electricity, Neon Lights, Radio transmission, The Electric motor, Wireless electricity transfer, Remote control, Hydraulics, Lasers, Space weapons, Robotics, and many, many more things. As Tesla claimed to have invented a way to harness free energy from the voltage difference in the ionosphere that causes lightning, he was seen as a threat to the world energy economy and most of his inventions were classified for national security by the US government. A lot of his discoveries in physics have not been released to the public, despite being invented nearly 100 years ago. In 2006 the first company publicly announced it could successfully power items by remote power without wires, (news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6129460. stm) something Tesla had invented nearly a century ago.

Velociraptor Claws Made for Climbing
cakebelly
by cakebelly  9-15-2009    1
more: The new study found that the claws had a high "failure stress" threshold, "suggesting that Velociraptor would have been able to support its weight on a small contact area while climbing," the researchers write. And it could have perched, much like a modern bird in a tree, they figure. That doesn't mean Velociraptor wasn't fearsome. The claws of these extinct creatures could have served to capture prey, too. "The geometry of dromaeosaur claws would have caused the claw to rotate as it was pushed deeper into prey," the scientists write. A rachet-like ligament would have helped get the claw in deep, they speculate, allowing the dinosaur to use its body weight "to lock the claws passively and allowing the jaws to dispatch the prey."

Quantum Physics.. What it is?
WomanInTheMoon11
by WomanInTheMoon11  9-10-2009    1
Quantum physics is a branch of science that deals with discrete, indivisible units of energy called quanta as described by the Quantum Theories. Quantum physics invloves the study of the realm of the very small, at the atomic and subatomic level, such as electrons, photons and quarks. Therefore, it’s operating at the below-cell level of the body. Quantum Physics is also the study of the forces that act on atomic and subatomic entities. There are 4 forces: gravity, electromagnetism, the strong force (binds particles in the atom’s nucleus) and the weak force (responsible for radioactive/beta decay). Quantum Physics also studies the fields through which forces move. Example of fields are the gravitational field and electromagnetic field. A field can extend throughout a large region of space so that its influence is all-pervading.
