POPSThe U.S. Needs to Open Up to the World It's better for everybody to have a stake in society than to have a resentful underclass bent on wrecking things. To many Americans, this sounds like socialism, big government, the nanny state. But so what? The result is: Europe has less gun crime and homicide, less poverty and arguably a higher quality of life than the U.S., which makes a lot of us wonder why America doesn't want some of what we've got. America as a gated community won't work, because not even the world's sole superpower can build walls high enough to shield itself from the intertwined realities of the 21st century. There's a better form of security: reconnect with the rest of the world, don't shut it out; stop making enemies and start making friends. Perhaps it's asking a lot to expect America to act differently from all the other empires in history, but wasn't that the original idea?

POPSFighting For The Welfare State This makes me really proud to be Danish. Anyway, why ARE we so happy? Well... we all know how we are all are in the grip of the worldwide economic crisis at the moment, right? Well, despite this, a huge number of Danes are now calling for the government to please let us pay more taxes! "Please raise taxes, so we can afford more!". :p .Now... I know this might seem odd and counter-intuitive to some, but please lend me your ear and I'll try to explain.... :) In a society like for example the US, where Wall Street reigns supreme and the gap between rich and poor just grows every day, how can it be expected that there is anything in it all, for the little guy? Capitalism is all good and fine, but money shouldn't be the goal, but merely the means. It's not about how much you have, but how much you give.

Puppet cable news pundits want to imprint an image of Independents as moderates - in the "middle" of either "fringe". It depends, doesn't it? Higher elites of both persuasions strive to find a way to topple the Constitution, maybe to slightly varying goals, while the Independents really want to maintain sovereignty and the Constitution. Doesn't that put Ind.'s on the Right, with Rep.'s & Dem.'s on the Left? Criticisms against Obama policies are met by Bush criticisms. Enough. That's the wrong paradigm. Isn't it ? POPSIrony of Obama's Opposition And now, as President, Mr. Obama consistently speaks of solving problems by using "what works" rather than employing ideological approaches. This too is reasoning and judgment, rather than resort to theory without consideration for the facts on the ground. It does not mean that the President will not consider free-market economics, on the one hand, or government intervention, on the other, but he looks for solutions that take into account the myriad of consequences rather than simply going with a principle, results be damned. What is ironic, although maybe karmicly inevitable, is that this king of reason is being confronted with logic's nemises -- emotion, belief and intentional deception. Take, for example, Mr. Obama's first acts as President. The economy was diving into a deeper recession. The financial industry was frozen. The President supported a huge rescue program.

POPSMandatory flu vaccination splits Healthcare workers If I were in their position I too would be outraged. Half of the Doctors I have talked too are not even recommending for their patients and certainly our pediatricians are saying not to get the H1N1 for our kids, which we had not planned to do anyway. If I was these doctors and nurses I would just not get it as the state is just asking for a huge shortage of nurses and docs by doing this. Society needs the nurses and docs, they don't necessarily need to stay at these jobs.
