POPSUm, Kenya? You guys OK? Finishing fourth in the men's category was another American, Ryan Hall. Hall, 27, is a rising star on the world running circuit and made headlines last year by running the London marathon in a stunning 2:06:17. Americans once dominated long-distance running, bringing home consecutive gold medals from 1970-82. Marathon legend Bill Rodgers won the New York City four years in a row from 1976 to 1979, and Alberto Salazar took walked away with successive victories from 1980-82. The marathon, which began in 1970 with a mere 127 runners, now hosts 38,000 athletes from around the globe, according to the marathon's Web site. Known for its diverse, punishing terrain, the annual event spans all five of New York's City's boroughs, finishing in the heart of Central Park. Keflezighi and Tulu will each receive $130,000 in prize money.

POPSObama Meeting with The Daliai Lama Is Delayed more @ clip source For the first time since 1991, the Tibetan spiritual leader will visit Washington this week and not meet with the president. Since 1991, he has been here 10 times. Most times the meetings have been "drop-in" visits at the White House. The last time he was here, in 2007, however, George W. Bush became the first sitting president to meet with him publicly, at a ceremony at the Capitol in which he awarded the Dalai Lama the Congressional Gold Medal, Congress's highest civilian award.

POPSSouth African Crossdresser Runs 800 Meters "The gender verification test is an extremely complex procedure," said a spokesman, "The investigations will take some days or weeks, and I'm not a doctor to give a conclusive answer as to his or her gender." The track and field sensation had a good laugh at that one. "Just cop a feel!" he said. "You'll have all the verification you need."

POPSPhelps Bounces Back from Loss with Record in 200-Meter Butterfly Michael Phelps broke his own record in the 200-meter butterfly on day four of the FINA world swimming championships. The victory came just 24 hours after the disappointment of his silver-medal finish in the 200 free. After that race, Phelps went back to his hotel, traded text messages with friends for an hour and then got his first good night of sleep since his arrival in Rome 10 days ago. One friend's supportive text message read: "I know you hate getting second, so if you want to call and let out some emotion, I'll be glad to listen." But Phelps has always been the type who responds better to butt kicking from defeats than back patting from friends. Tyler Clary, the other U.S. entrant in the race, said he could see it, too. "I could tell by his demeanor in the ready room that he looked like he was going after it," said Clary, who placed fifth. "He just looked like nothing was getting in his way."

POPSObama Family Feted in Paris
Millions of us here in the States are very touched and grateful for so much of the world's good will towards the Obamas. Thank you. We're quite pleased with them, ourselves although everyday we are bombarded with corrosive media coverage that finds something to complain about... such a torrent of ill-will the daily dose of politics in other places? Anyhow, President Barack Obama really is a good political leaders. He has integrity, honesty, moral values, vision, is very hard working and on the side of the people -- not much more to ask hope for, really. Although the fact that he's proven himself already successful in many ways is good too. (Although the constant rainstrom of slander might blind us a bit to that, here). This is a Totally New Experience for me, that's 4sure. The Pres gets a gold medal in Cairo and I'm glad. He's cheered on the streets of Paris (and Broadway, etc.) and I'm glad. Veterans at Normandy applaud him and I'm glad. It's a triumph 4 us all. Viva hum

POPSA Hero’s More Than a Sandwich FTA: The point to all this is that you do not turn anyone into a hero simply by calling him one. All you really accomplish is to so totally cheapen the word as to make it meaningless when the real thing comes along.

POPSBrave Jack Russell Died To Save Children From Pitbull Attack "There's no doubt that George was a small dog with a lion's share of courage," said PDSA director general Jan McLoughlin. "Each account of his devotion to the five children on the day of the incident tells of a dog that was not afraid to face great fear in order to protect his friends. "The children will never forget George's sacrifice and PDSA is proud to honour this exceptionally brave dog." The PDSA Gold Medal is the highest honour for outstanding animal bravery and exceptional dedication.

POPSPhelps and Obama Leading The Way To Legalizing Marijuana Well folks, I've tired it and I didn't like it, so that probably makes me unpopular among the pot smoking crowd. For many years I didn't drink any alcohol either, so this clip isn't personal at all. I guess I realize the need for many to tune out with something whether it be sex, television, food, alcohol or weed. I think we are losing the war on drugs although I don't think that particular war has been mentioned for the past 8 years.

POPSPhelps with Bong So What! You have had all this time and all you can come up with is a bong! A bong "hit" or to just hold one while your photo is taken is a traditional "Young Dude" thing to do. So what! He did not achieve his greatness by the use of some man made "Juice"... He is engineered to swim, Give the young male room to grow and make mistakes... "the same way we gave you all the room to make mistakes and feel you are superior and are able to judge others". To all those that harm others with there words should think twice..."Keep your words soft and sweet, you never know which ones you will have to eat"!

POPSNo program has won the gold or silver prizes "No program has won the gold or silver prizes. The silver would go to a machine that could pass a longer version of the Turing Test and fool at least half the judges. The gold would go to a machine that could process audio and visual information rather than just text. " "Despite _ or maybe because of _ his win, Roberts said he did not buy Turing's argument. "I don't think it's anything like thought," he said of Elbot's conversational prowess. "If you know a magic trick, you know how it's done, it's not magic anymore. Sorry to be so pessimistic." Still i think this event is important in the path of AI emergence.

POPSLondon's mayor says Britain is not broken The current political mood of Britain is irrational. The government is suffering from the Mother of all Swings of the Pendulum. I think time is the only healer here. On September 28th one international commentator said that "Gordon Brown is the star of the UN". Yet he is villified in his own country, explain on one side of A4.
