Get Yer Merry On!
merrie
by merrie  12-24-2009    2
Based on the latest warmal Algorithm, this month’s holiday lightup is probably going to cost us at least 1,500 polar bears! Speaking of which, anyone know what the lighting bill is at the newly green White House this year? “I’ve been doing it for six years,” said 26-year-old D.J. Damato, who each year trims his family home on 9 Butternut Road with more than 30,000 lights. “Little kids love it, and that’s kind of what keeps me going,” he said. Little kids love it? For Gaia’s sake! Frank Armata, a 30-year resident, began stringing his display when the neighborhood was still relatively dark. “I was the first on my street to set up the lights,” he said of his 25 Preston Road home. “Now, there’s competition … ” Can’t we all just get along? Not far away on 38 Bartlett St., there’s another amazing show. “I love lights,” said Felix Barcelos, 84, who has been decorating his house for three decades. BostonHerald http://bit.ly/4RWf

Seeking Eye Contact
zizzy
by zizzy  12-24-2009    7
I continue to seek out other eyes during intermissions at theaters, hoping I’m not committing some venial social sin by invading anyone’s personal bubble of space. To date, few have sought mine. I look into the eyes of my grandchildren even before I hug them. And recently, Jonah, the 10-year-old, actually looked back at me and announced with some interest that my eyes are blue. Actually, they’re green. But it’s a start.

Happy Birfday, Charles Dickens' "Christmas Carol"
Spiritualmonkey
by Spiritualmonkey  12-19-2009    1
more: Interestingly, there is no mention of the following in Dickens' A Christmas Carol: -Christmas tree -wrapped gifts -Anything related to The Nativity (wise men, baby Jesus), although there are plenty of homeless parents all through Dickens' works. While such values as charity, family, and universal goodwill certainly fall well within the Christian tradition, the book is not explicitly Christian much beyond the wish that "God bless us, everyone." Actually, that feels quite Anglican. ;-) There is no mention of Santa Claus per se, but the Ghost of Christmas Present is a big Oðin-like viking spirit, in a green fur-trimmed robe, bare chested and hearty. You know GoCP is going to the holiday swingers party once he drops off Scrooge.[/quote[

Obama Flies to Junk Science Summit In Copenhagen –
merrie
by merrie  12-18-2009    3
O-bow-ma Finds Someone To Bow To In Copenhagen After his brief, listless and cliché-ridden speech in Copenhagen that aired live on Morning Joe today, Pres. Obama makes the hand-shaking rounds on the podium. He continues the glad-handing off the podium, until he spots someone and breaks into . . . a bow . With all the mulling around, it's hard to determine exactly what's going on. It looks like he might have been exchanging bows with a man in the scrum surrounding him. But PBO's bow seemed to go beyond the perfunctory head-nod that in the circumstances surely would have satisfied, say, Japanese etiquette. NewsBusters http://bit.ly/5G65y7

Why Britain faces a bleak future of food shortages
JICWyllie
by JICWyllie  12-13-2009
It's a hard truth to face. Without the food, the population will not continue to grow. As babies starve, then people will have fewer of them, and the population will decline. As for the science having another green revolution up its sleeve, it is in way over its head. GM has proved very disappointing when it come to increasing yields.

Naked Copenhagen

by merrie  12-12-2009    3
If the issue is rising emissions in the next several decades, the bottom line is simple: The developed world is rapidly becoming irrelevant. Every 10% cut in the U.S. is negated by one year of China's growth. By 2040 China could be the most economically dominant nation on earth. The West might be able to cajole it, but won't be able to impose sanctions on China. Temperature will be at the mercy of the newly powerful economies. Moreover, an expensive effort to reduce Western emissions sets a worthless example. Only emissions cuts that provide measurable economic benefit to the developing nations will be adopted by them. If the 80% U.S. emissions cut winds up hurting the U.S. economy, it guarantees China will never follow our example. Cheap green energy is not going to be easy. Coal is dirt cheap, and China has been installing a new gigawatt coal plant each week"enough to supply five completely new cities the size of New York every year.

Why Dontcha Ask WTF the Stimulus Was For?
davboz
by davboz   12-11-2009
Conyers rude, disrespectful to FOX reporter who asked, how are you going to get something that's not specifically in the name of race if blacks are their target for assistance. Conyers snapped, we've said that it is persons of color & minorities who've been hit hardest and are the worse off. YOU GOT THAT? Jackson Lee explained, in her wisdom, that of course when the minorities are helped that whites on need will also be helped and ultimately this is about need - not color. Yes'm. Thanky.

Mikerichard
by Mikerichard  12-10-2009
Biodegradable Dog Poop Bag! The best solution for disposal of pet waste has always been to separate it from the bag or paper and flush it down the toilet. Using Biodegradable Dog Poop Bags extends your options. The waste and the bag can be thrown in your backyard compost, where both items can decompose naturally; the waste and bag can be buried, where micro-organisms will quickly eat both; the waste and bag can be set at curbside with other yard waste where communities collect biodegradable waste for composting.

The Most Nature Friendly Vibrator
samanthacastro4

So you’re the nature loving advocate. You plant lots of trees in the backyard. You recycle plastic bottles and cans. You join save-the-earth runs and organizations. But besides these, you want to own a vibrator and you could not pick one from adult toy shop shelves without ever noticing they are made of plastics which add to environmental bulk of waste.
