They do the same thing with human food. I love K. Trudeau's "Natural Cures..." advice -- If it comes from a publicly traded company, don't buy it. (Of course that almost precludes shopping in grocery stores)

Lexica

For a Westerner, the textures of Asian desserts can take some getting used to. They're very tasty, though, and for anybody who has trouble with gluten they're worth looking into. Now I'm hungry.

Wal-Mart Brand Dog Biscuits Added to Pet Food Recall
dorine
by dorine  4-6-2007
This is so scary. I talked to a woman at Wal-mart Sunday about this. She was buying this brand because it wasn't on the recall list. Is China being held responsible for this disaster?

CGM corn gluten meal
qldman
by qldman  8-20-2007
Have read a lot about CGM, corn gluten meal as a natural weed killer. well it might kill weeds but it also kills everything else. check out the mortaility rates, 50% or there abouts. not sure if this stuff is the answer and at 1tonn per ha that is putting in on reasonably thick more like a mulch. I think if your considering this stuff treat it like a nuke. put it on expecting it to take out everything that is not established.

Gluten, the hidden poison
askwhy
by askwhy  6-10-2007    2
Gluen is increasingly added to food for no obvious reason, yet it is a dangerous poison to many people, and in added quantities probably to many who otherwise would be tolerant. You will find it added to many foods to improve its texture with no regard to its harmful effects.

Beijing Suspends U.S. Meat Imports
Forbes
by Forbes  7-14-2007
This smacks of tit-for-tat retaliation after months of international calls for China to improve the safety of its own food and drug exports. Earlier this year, some pets in the U.S. died from food that contained Chinese gluten suspected of being tainted. Concern has also been raised about the safety of Chinese toothpaste and seafood exports.

Filler in Animal Feed Is Open Secret in China
gingembre
by gingembre  5-6-2007    3
Here's a bit more: “Many companies buy melamine scrap to make animal feed, such as fish feed,” said Ji Denghui, general manager of the Fujian Sanming Dinghui Chemical Company, which sells melamine. “I don’t know if there’s a regulation on it. Probably not. No law or regulation says ‘don’t do it,’ so everyone’s doing it. The laws in China are like that, aren’t they? If there’s no accident, there won’t be any regulation.” Madness. Greed. Lack of conscience. It's an open secret in China. Big corporations elsewhere hide these same characteristics from us, but they are really no different.

Well, well. Imagine that. All those people saying we need more regulations and FDA inspections to prevent this couldn't have prevented it anyway. If a compnay wants to deceive people on purpose, they will and do. BUY AMERICAN PRODUCTS! and quit complaining about crap you buy from China! You get what you pay for.
