POPSRush Got Punked Let's hope someone kept their sense of humor in all this. Still, for a humble post to go from humor blog to major media outlet sure seems impressive. Someone ought to write their thesis on it. For real.

POPS35 clues that you listen to Sean Hannity 18) you believe that Sean Hannity is a "great American"... despite the fact that he really hasn't done anything "great" other than build his own personal fortune by parroting talking points. It’s worth reading through the others for some real gems. That is, unless you actually listen to Sean Hannity. Another favorite: 26) you actually believe that "bush kept us safe"... in spite of 3,017 dead on 911, 5 dead via anthrax WMD attack (on us soil), 1317 us troops dead in afghanistan, 4645 dead us troops in iraq And the hits just keep coming: 27) you believe in exporting democracy... yet insist that conservative officials "remain principled" and refuse to negotiate with (America hating) liberals.

POPSRetro Futurism Design: Cool Images and Tutorials I work with and employ some phenomenal graphic artists and designers. At every turn, I am constantly amazed at what they can create and I have the utmost respect for their talent. Most of the graphic designers are young. Well, young to me, I'm 41. Today's market is extremely competitive, so when I find gems like these, I think we owe it to them to give them "mad props." Have a gander at this amazing raw talent. The images are splendid and created from the bright minds that are shaping our future. At the end of the article, they so generously provide the tutorials so you can learn how to do it, too.

POPSThe National Treasury of Iran How much is the value of this collection? However, much can be said about this fantastic collection, but one question cannot correctly be answered: How much is the value of this collection? No one knows the answer to this question. Because this collection contains gems that are unique in the world. The answer to this question can be as the following: from the artistic viewpoint, historical background and containing incomparable jewels, the Treasury of National Jewels is on a level that even the most expert evaluators of the world have not been able to calculate the price of this collection.

POPSSen. Shelby bids reality farewell on Sunday TV The Obama admin is "obviously" turning the USA into a socialist nation, he claims. OK, let's count the evidence: How many companies has the government taken over (of America's 26 million)? Um, one? General Motors? A few more if you count the ones with loans (which is a stretch)? And the banks that Bush bailed out. OK, let's grant them all and say ten. 10 of 26,000,000. And we're a socialist nation. One divided by 2,600,000, to express it in a percentage of total businesses. My, my. Sound the alarum! Break out the hammers and sickles! Or call the men in white coats.

About Us ProPublica is an independent, non-profit newsroom that produces investigative journalism in the public interest. Our work focuses exclusively on truly important stories, stories with “moral force.” We do this by producing journalism that shines a light on exploitation of the weak by the strong and on the failures of those with power to vindicate the trust placed in them. Investigative journalism is at risk. Many news organizations have increasingly come to see it as a luxury. Today’s investigative reporters lack resources: Time and budget constraints are curbing the ability of journalists not specifically designated “investigative” to do this kind of reporting in addition to their regular beats. This is therefore a moment when new models are necessary to carry forward some of the great work of journalism in the public interest that is such an integral part of self-government, and thus an important bulwark of our democracy. http://www.propublica.org/about/

POPSMarianne Batlle knited dicks Marianne Batlle knits dicks. She also embroiders brooches in the likeness of designers, but those aren't nearly as blog worthy. The French artist began crocheting penises in 2004 and has been exhibiting them (so to speak) since 2005. Les Poupées Pénis (the Doll Penises) are of all types, made with many different materials and given various personas via their monikers and style. She incorporates raffia, beads, crystals, wire, faux fur, wool, gems and more into these little male members. They have been shown at gallery exhibitions, sold to private collectors and featured in a virtual mock runway show as well as in a catalogue on her site. (Her site is in french, by the way).

POPS8 Fascinating Object Graveyards An amazing assortment with a definite focus on transportation and a smaller focus on military vehicles... Some very nice gems here from the US Airplane Graveyard to the Soviet Cars and the Vending Machines of Japan. The Bolivian Train Graveyard is in the High Andean Plain and deserves a closer look. Actually ALL the graveyards deserve a closer look and the folks at Oddee.com were nice enough to give links to the parent sites, use them, you will not be sorry.

POPSStupid Alert: Jewel Thieves Robbed by Thieves Which is more baffling: a) the two robbers were themselves, robbed. b) All four robbers were from Illinois and went to Milwaukee for, ahem, the big job. c) I found this riveting story about 4 dumb ass robbers nabbed in Milwaukee, on the UK-based BBC News website

POPSSlow Reading <<<I think it requires a certain mindfulness and presence instead of, like I find myself doing all too often, thinking about work or errands or other things that need doing while my eyes move over the page but take in only just enough to follow the plot. The whole idea of doing something slowly runs contrary to our throw away consumer culture and the urge to do everything faster. Slow blogging. Slow reading. Slow food. Even slow biking. There seems to be something to it, a yearning, perhaps, for the things we miss out on by being in such a hurry. Worth thinking more about.>>>
